That's so good to hear... I was at a pawn shop (on a whim) and at the corner of my eye, I saw the EcoTank ET2803 and they were selling it for $15! I was so stoked and purchased it without another thought so I didn't even consider if I could convert it as a used printer.... Im going to absolutely try to purge print with this. Actually now I'm wondering Miranda. When you say "ink charging," do you just mean refill? The video I shared shows how to fill the tanks, but not resetting anything. Sorry to get your hopes up if there is something more.

I’m sorry I completely disagree, a buddy of my bought my ecotank and converted it over to sublimation just fine, there are videos on UA-cam to walk you through it, there are kits sold for doing the clean out, and everyone I know uses regular old white printer paper for sublimation, just like the Cricut pens…

Hey Tanya! When I made this video you had to use a brand new printer to convert to sublimation, but there are now "clean-out" kits if you have an old printer that has used regular ink. I've not tried them, but I've had comments from others that they work. Best of luck! And thanks so much for crafting with me! 🩷
Hi Kim, thank you for posting this! I just got a new printer the other day. When you say do a regular test, is this a printer test or a color printer page? Thanks
I found keeping the ink moving helps the longevity of the printer. Just print one of the nozzle checks under maintenance. It's not much ink and it keeps the printer active. Thanks so much for crafting with me and happy sublimating! 🩷
I fully filled up my Epson EcoTank 2862(new out of the box)with a sublimation ink from Hiipoo but my printer ink status LED blinks as there is no ink in the tanks. I get a pop-up message saying that the printer might be damaged if there is no ink in the tanks. it does not print at all on my HTVRont sublimation paper. Can the ET2862 printer be converted to a sublimation printer this way?
Oh goodness! If you used the Hiipoo ink and filled the tanks it should be printing. Did you follow my set-up video? ua-cam.com/video/5vYb07dVOAw/v-deo.htmlsi=ns7qKLN95KyBIn_s This video is 3 years old, but might help you determine if you missed something. Sorry you're having trouble!
Hey Lynne! Don't be scared. It's a great way to get started without spending an absolute fortune. The Epson Eco Tank is a great option, but make sure you watch to the end of this video to know the ENTIRE truth. OR, if you own a Cricut start with Cricut's Infusible Ink sheets. They are just sublimation sheets. It's just Cricut's word for it. So glad the video was helpful!!
hi, this video is amazing! I tried to sublimate using my tumbler press with the Epson ecotank, but my black design is turning up as brown on the frosted tumbler..any advice as to what im doing wrong?
@@KimByers I did figure it out, my printers drivers were not installed correctly, so it was not an issue with the tumbler press at all it was the print on the sublimation paper..now that's solved the frosted cups with black and colors look great, only issue remaining is the heat tape marks on my clear cans.ive used 3 heat tapes now yellow, clear and blue and the marks can still be seen not sure if the temp is too high for clear cans but ok for frosted cans..any idea?
So glad you figured it out! As for the tape, I've only ever used blue and if I follow the temp guide I've not had a problem. My brands are Cricut and PYDLife. What brand are you using?
Hi there! Just came across your video because I am currently in the process of converting my Epson ecotank into a sublimation printer. I have found that a lot of the reviews I have read mentioned you have to print something every few days. Is there a picture you suggest that I can print that would kind of incorporate all the colors in it so I can print that same picture every few days. That's not too big? And how big do you suggest I would print that picture. Great video and very informative. Looking forward to your reply.😊
Good morning! Actually, what I recommend is to run the "nozzle check" diagnostic in the maintenance menu. It uses very little ink, AND it uses all the colors. 🩷 Thanks so much for crafting with me and happy sublimating!
Hi Sarah! I've not. I've had HP printers in the past, but not for sublimation, and they did fine but it was all office work. Best of luck and thanks for stopping in! 🩷
Great tips! I bought a 15000 and haven’t used it for several months. Do you think the deep cleaning will help get my printer going! I bought the hippo ink and couldn’t figure the setup out and I gave up. Ild like to try again but I know my printer has set for much too long
Hey Brenda! Yes. I think it will work! Go to this video ua-cam.com/video/5vYb07dVOAw/v-deo.html and I'll show you how to set it up from beginning to end, and then you can run the DEEP clean. It might take a few times, but don't give up. You'll love sublimation. 💕😀
The part about cleaning the converted printer to prevent it from clogging and having issues, can that same thing happen with an actual sublimation printer that doesn’t need to be converted? Can an actual sublimation printer get clogged like that as well and needs to be cleaned also or no?
Hmm... I don't know about Sawgrass printers and other "made to" sublimate printers. I've only ever owned a converted sublimation printer. Thanks for watching and I hope you find your answer! 🩷
@@KimByers hi Kim, being that they are made for sublimation, they don;t have that problem. Also, the ink for then (sawgrass) is so much more expensive to replenish.
Hi Kim! Just curious, was is not an option to change the printer heads? Since that was the cause of death of your Epson 😅 or is that a part that your can’t buy aftermarket or something. Thanks!
Fabulous question! I asked it myself and should have addressed it in the video. The heads are not available for sale and neither is the ink pad. I guess they'd rather sell another printer. 😀 Thanks so much for watching Root & Stitch! Happy crafting! 💕

I just bought a Epson - EcoTank ET-3850 All-in-One Supertank Inkjet Printer i wanted to know converit to sublimation ink but i see in ur video it would not be a good idea if im trying to do stickers or chip bags its better to keep the ink that it comes with it right?
Hey there! So I'm not completely sure I know what you're asking. If you want to print normal items, not sublimation items, then use the ink that comes with the printer. If you want to sublimate with the printer, then use the sublimation inks, like Hiipoo Sublimation Ink. Unfortunately you can't do both. Once you use one ink or the other that's it. There is no swapping between inks. I hope that answered your question and thanks for crafting with me! 💕
Hi Kim, I bought an Epson Eco tank printer yesterday and the printer came with ink filled on it. Am I still going to able to do a sublimation with this ink without converting to sublimation ink?
The machine had ink already in it? I've purchased two and they always come with the ink bottles/cartridges, but it's not in the machine already. If there is ink in it, return it and buy a different one. If the ink is in the machine you can't convert to sublimation. I'm sorry you're having this trouble. I hope you can get a new one and get to sublimating soon! Best!
I'm gonna tryyyyy not to make this a long long. But im basically moving over from screenprinting because the process is messy. And I need to know if there is a way I can print one color at a time. Example. Lets say I only want to print from the cyan tank. Can I use the color code #00FFFF and only print from that tank without the printer mixing colors?
Hi there! You may be able to do that with a Sawgrass sublimation printer, but unfortunately the converted Epson isn't going to give you that much control. I hope you find a solution! And thanks for watching! 💕
True! But not everyone knows how to do all the things so I like to share as much as possible. Thanks for stopping in the channel and happy sublimating!
Oh goodness! I've not seen that one. So sorry I don't have an answer for you. Maybe Google some sort of a "reset" feature with your printer. I hope it can be fixed and you can get back to creating!! Thanks so much for watching and best of luck.
All good tips but unless i missed it i didnt hear anything about icc profiles which people should be informed of. but i am watching this via subtitles while at work lol so im guessing i missed it lol
Hi Norma! Once a printer has been converted to a sublimation printer, it's not good for any other project. The ink sits on top of the sublimation paper and will smear. I personally wouldn't. That said, you can make earrings, phone cases, shirts, totes, garden flags, keychains, Christmas ornaments, and so much more with the sublimation ink! Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting! 💕
Epson ink jet printers are not made to convert to sublimation inks unless it specifies it's for sublimation. You will void the warranty as soon as you put sublimation ink in it. They have the F170 for sublimation ink.
Very true. But those printers are much more expensive. And the warranty isn’t all inclusive. Plus, 200-$240 is a whole lot more affordable for many people. Thanks for watching and happy crafting.
Having watched this video, I must say that the title is misleading. It should be "Important things to know when converting an Epson EcoTank to a sublimation printer". That being said, thank you for a very informative video.
I actually called the Epson customer service/service center and they told me that it would be difficult and expensive. I was bummed but I only paid $199 for the printer and they said I was better off getting a new one. Maybe they just wanted a sale. :) Thanks so much for watching!
Sorry I absolutely disagree with you on the paper. I use normal Typing paper and there is NO difference at all between that and sublimation paper regarding quality and grabbing the ink
Thanks for sharing your experience Erna! I've not found the same result with my copy paper, but maybe you have better paper than me. And that may be an interesting test to share in an upcoming video. Thank you for the idea and for crafting with me! Happy sublimating! 💕
Hey Kim. Thanks for the great info. I did find a mega cost cutting gem from Dyepress. They have the coating for making tiles into coasters etc. They recommended the Staples Multi use paper. This works beautifully. I bought a sawgrass years ago and love it but they will sabotage their machines make you buy their sublimation ink which is not only expensive but inferior to even the $17 for 4 ink refills. I wish they wouldn’t be so greedy with their inks. I love the machine otherwise.
Hey Alyson! Mine is a ET-2800 and it's on Cyber Monday deal today for $199 amzn.to/3uvsA4h The 2850 is $249. I chose the 2800 for the price and because I don't use the other features. Only the printing. Hope you make the best choice for you! Happy crafting! 🩷
Hey Bob! I called the manufacturer when mine died in hopes of just that option, but was told that the ink pads were not able to be replaced. They said that their commercial printers had that option, but not their less expensive home office printers. I hope you're right and they've made a change in the last few months but I fear the average person like myself isn't getting that advice directly from the company. Thanks so much for watching and happy sublimating!
To Kim @@KimByers Hi there, you're correct, unfortunately a lot of modern manufactures have one foot in the stone age & one hand in your pocket and have the least concern about dumping 90% good equipment in landfill. I don't know your printer but I've had to, as a last resort, strip down several printers and solve problems that the manufacturers were not interesting resolving. If you don't have the time maybe you know a local techy or engineering student that could disassemble and reassemble specific parts of the printer, though everything is time & money. If you are making money it might force you to go up-market for a proven professional printer, like everything they are not without there own idiosyncratic problems. Cheers.
Thanks Bob. In my old neighborhood I had someone like that but since we moved no techy for us! Happy crafting and here's hoping my next printer will last longer! Best!
Go to advance settings and switch the density to -10 or -15 then you will not get pizza cutter lines or smuges. You should seal the printhead with silicone. You can see how it is done on you tube videos. The printer should last a long time.

True! But not everyone knows how to do all the things so I like to share as much as possible. Thanks for stopping in the channel and happy sublimating!
My 2760 converted printer is filled but it keep saying refilled ink and stop print can u help please
Thank you for all of those great tips!
I have a question can you make stickers with a sublimation printer?
Thanks for your thoughts Janine! Happy crafting!
You just saved me from wasting £130. Thank you
So glad Arlene! Happy crafting! 💕
I'm sure you can replace the ink pad.
I actually called the Epson customer service/service center and they told me that it would be difficult and expensive. I was bummed but I only paid $199 for the printer and they said I was better off getting a new one. Maybe they just wanted a sale. :) Thanks so much for watching!
I watched a video and they commented that you can clean them yourself. Search for a video on that. I did not save it😊
but can we use hiipoo ink in epson ecotank l3250??
You can use Hiipoo Ink with all the Epson Ecotanks (before Epson ink is installed), but I'm not personally familiar with the I3250
I printed a couple times everyday and it still got clogged. No more epson printers for me.
Oh I totally get it Lisa! Totally get it! I was soooo frustrated when mine died. Thanks for hanging out with me. 🩷
Another disagree about epson you have to flip as new soft does that in settings
At the making of this video the new options weren't available. Glad to see they are now!
@@ernabruwer5730 I’ve noticed a huge difference with a sub paper vs reg paper.
What is everyone’s favorite Ecotank? I was thinking of getting the 2850
Hey Alyson! Mine is a ET-2800 and it's on Cyber Monday deal today for $199 amzn.to/3uvsA4h The 2850 is $249. I chose the 2800 for the price and because I don't use the other features. Only the printing. Hope you make the best choice for you! Happy crafting! 🩷
Many of your links aren’t working, fyi…..
You can replace the ink pads to extend the life of the printer, this printer should not be thought of as a throw away concept. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice! I'll try that next time mine starts acting up!
