This is, without a doubt, the best written product use video I've ever seen. Clear direction, all questions answered, great what-to-expect. Kudos to your copywriter!
Just used this on my old Formica counters. They were a black marble pattern with a matte finish that sucked the light from my kitchen. Hated them for ten years so when I found this I was so excited. Looked easy to apply and a much more durable finish than faux painting. I absolutely love, love, love the results!! Easy to do for one person. The real magic happens on the second sanding step. Two coats of top coat gives a nice shine. I plan to use the Daich Countertop Clear Coat which is an epoxy top coat you apply 7 days later to get a really smooth durable finish. Great product!!!
Only recommendation, scrap the brush totally and get a better rollers for the top coat. Definitely want to get an electric sander and extra sand paper. For backsplash and edges I wrapped the sheets of sandpaper around a sponge to make it easier to hold since I have arthritis in my hands.
To my fellow do-it-yourselfers out there ... we just finished resurfacing our countertop with Spreadstone and it has totally changed the look of our kitchen. The video gave us all the facts we needed to do the project and it really was as easy as the video made it look. Came down to breakfast this morning and walked into a brand new kitchen with a stone countertop. We are super happy. Amazing result for less than $150. If you're thinking about doing this kind of project, I say go with Daich.
My neighbors turned me on to it. Theirs looks good.
What kind of stone is that exactly?
My kitchin and two bathrooms all have the same type pf Formica countertops. My home was built in 1995 and the countertops are showing their age. Mostly in the kitchen. Was just looking for a video for getting rid of stains, but watched this and find myself thinking that I could do all three of my rooms. Noticed that this video is over ten years old BUT my local Lowes still has this product in a variety of colors. So will give it some thought but having all the tools I'll need and the incentive I will be planning this project out. Thanks.
From a plumbers point of view, it's best to remove the sink and faucet. This will ensure uniformity where the coating passes under the fixtures. Also, if you decide to change the faucet to a different style in the future, you won't be left with any exposed, unfinished surfaces. Finally, this will also allow you to coat the edges of the cut-outs, adding waterproofing.
Good observation , cause cheaper sinks can't be fixed equally all around , so there is possibility that water can pass under the rubber or sponge which is used for sealer...
I replaced the sink after 3 years, not an issue.
SABOTAGE juju
good to hear. i'm leaving the future owners the leftover materials along with instructions, sealed in plastic bag, to do any touch-ups.
Jj Ash That's what I did. Why go half assed? 😆
Ohmygosh, I ran across this video, and it has to be one the best I've ever seen. Although I'm doing my kitchen with epoxy, I'm doing all of my bathrooms with this product. Loved the simplicity & thoroughness of this presentation.
Thank you so much 💓
We moved into a great 125 year old home with the ugliest kitchen counter imaginable. I thought I'd try this before ripping the counter out and building an entirely new one. It turned out lovely. I was, frankly, amazed. It's a great product and can really save those 1970s laminate kitchen countertops.
Thank you! I'm about to move into a 1910 home with a 1970s mustard yellow counter. I'm trying to find the most simple and cost effective solution before I save up my money for an eventual dream kitchen remodel. Thanks for your experience. I think I've found the right solution.
This product is amazing. I've transformed my kitchen and bathroom counter tops over a year ago. Very durable, easy to use and the counter tops look great. I've received a lot of compliments. Thank you Diach coatings !!

How do the sharp corners hold up?
I've just used this product on my 20 year old kitchen benchtops. The application was a breeze and is really sturdy. I love the final result and highly recommend it. I used a finer, artist type brush for the detail around the sink and tricky bits. I also used a better quality brush than what was provided for the clear coat. Otherwise, brilliant product and very good kit provided.
I'm going to do this soon. Can't wait and will watch this video 100 times before I start so I'm successful the first time!
I just want to say I did this on my 1980s formica kitchen counters and it turned out fabulous! No one can believe it's a coating that I myself applied. I did alot of research on affordable refinishing options and at less than $100 this was by far the best choice. I followed the directions closely, watched this video a few times and the project was very simple. I originally wanted to do Spreadstone on my patio but lacked the courage for such a big project. I am so glad I tried the countertop kit
I highly recommend Daich Coatings. I used it on all laminate counters in a 1993 Class C RV and it changed the look of everything, and is very durable. Very easy to apply. Only a primer coat, which is very heavy and thick, then the stone coat, then clear coat.
What and AWESOME product!..bought it at Home Depot for $125 including shipping direct from DAICH. Re did an ugly Blue yucky 70's countertop. Now everyone thinks I have granite...well sort of. Easy to go on, layered on, sanded and sealed. Take your time sanding and sand to the smoothness level you prefer. Everything is water based so its easy to work with and clean up. Cures fast and hard. NICE! 5 STARS!!
Thanks MD!!
I just completed my countertops with this product and it came out absolutely fantastic! Well worth it! My only advice would be to throw away the rollers they include in the kit and buy better quality ones. The fuzzy ones shed. And for the clear coat smoother ones work better. I used the oyster color and did 3 coats of the stone and the sealer. The 3rd stone coat I did mostly with a brush. I swear if they used a pour over epoxy it would look like granite. It really fools the eye.
I also removed the sink to do it rather than taping -it really makes for a more professional look. Don't be afraid of this it's as simple as they say. Sanding was where the magic happens and it took less than 30 minutes to do that step. I have easily 18 feet of counters. Would recommend this product 100 percent!
Katherine Ortis thanks for advice, can you tell me where you can buy this and how expensive is it as I was going to buy new worktops and it's not cheap to get them fitted, just trying to comare prices, thanks again for advice
Katherine Ortis why did you brush on 3rd coat? thanks. and did you have to buy extra or did you have enougg product?
It seems that removing sink and all other hardware possible before hand should be in the instructions and standard practice.. Great Comment.
what kind of primer coat did you used?
@@teamolinad8420 The primer is included in the kit.
I've had this on my kitchen countertop for the last 4.5 years. Looks great! No regrets!
Hi CappsJD. - Thanks for passing along your very thoughtful comment. It’s always good to know we are doing our job. Here’s to four more years!!
CappsJD do you have any problems with hot elements like toasters or air dryers wearing it down?
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thank you for the feedback. So many resurfacing products have negative comments after a year or more so it is very helpful to hear your positive experience. I only want to do the counters once :)
CappsJD, in the video, the refinished countertop looks like it has a slightly bumpy texture instead of smooth, like a real granite countertop would be. Is that correct or is it smooth?
I could watch all of his videos... I love the walk through and the way he's not all by the books but still does a great job. I'm going to redo my counter tops in a cobalt blue. Thank you so much for helping me Save money while fixing up our first home
This looks great. Looks like a nice , reasonably priced upgrade for tired looking laminate countertops.
can't wait to try this!!! have researched many products; I think I like this one the best! I'll stay in touch!
very neat, tidy instruction shown; great for newbies who want simplicity in mind.
I can't believe how well this turned out, really good video!
Hi Michael, that is absolutely no problem. You can mix some glitter into the coating or sprinkle on top if you wish to really jazz it up for your daughter. Sounds fun. Enjoy!
FANTASTIC!!! Will be doing this with our old 40 year old counter tops.......the video was great...Thank You DEB :)
Thank you for teaching all of us to repair and live happily ever after.
Emilia Chidester Thank you Emilia! It is our pleasure. Thank YOU for putting your trust in Daich Coatings!
This product is fantastic! The kit comes complete with all the necessary tools, the directions are simple, the video is very helpful, the steps are easy, and the finished job is excellent. It took me just over a day to make my old beat-up counter look completely new. My counter had both a wood backsplash and a wood trim piece along the front, and the Spreadstone went over these perfectly---now it looks like my counter is just one seamless piece of stone. I saved about $1000, but my friends will never know it (unless I tell them about this great stuff, and I suspect I won't be able to keep my mouth shut). One of the best home-improvement products I've ever used!
thank you, Peter, for sharing your experience!
You're very welcome. I wrote the review just a day after finishing the job, and can now say that the color of the surface (oyster) has aged into a beautiful buff color and the clear coat has fully cured into a basically bullet-proof surface. The only extra thing I did was to put several extra coats of the clear coat around the sink trim, just to make sure that the tiny seam was well protected and fully sealed. If I were to do it again, I would probably remove the sink (I was lazy). Anyway, I think this job just helped me get another 34 years out of my marriage, because my wife is beyond thrilled. I hope you guys get onto the Fortune 500 list for inventing this stuff!
What product did u use?
Hi Paul, thank you for your very kind review. We are so pleased that you are happy. If you ever need any help with future projects please don’t hesitate to contact us. All the best Paul!
Paul it was nice watch this video. I learned from you how to apply the spread stone and the spread rock from you. I'm Jose worked I Pasadena True Value.
Glad to this countertop product. Is great as everything that Daich make.
I just used this product. I was going order 2 kits to make sure I had enough to do my kitchen. I'm glad I didn't. I had enough left over to do both bathrooms too. All things considered, I'm happy with how it came out. I used 36 grit sandpaper to make sure I scratched it up good enough. I did very little sanding after I did the coating. All it took was a light sanding to bring out the colors and I think it will last longer by not sanding most of it out. Also, the video did not mention removing the tape. I suggest using a razor blade to help removing the tape. I pulled a bit of the coating off around the sink before I realized I needed a razor blade. I fixed it with a q-tip, no big deal. And yes, if you can lift or remove the sink that would help. I'm wondering if putting a new coat of sealer on it every year would help it last longer. Any thoughts on this ?
I'm very happy with the product. Although I would say power sanding is a MUST. I started for 10 minutes with hand sanding then said forget it. The power sander knocks any roughness down and it's as smooth as laminate now. Also be careful with taping. This goo is very hard to cut through if you are cutting your tape lines off and can tend to leave a rough edge.
Hi Jerome - Thanks very much for your interesting and informative thoughts. Thank you for choosing Daich Coatings!
Looks great & easy. I never liked those wild countertops that people liked. This might just be what I need now .We just got new stainless appliances .Thank you for the video.
Thank you for your thoughts. And thank you for watching Judy!
Wonderfully done and Explained! I'm ready!
Thank you for sharing this great tutorial!
I love this process to a beautiful uplift countertop. This is on my list to do. Thank you for an in depth video. Thank you thank you
Loving this technique!!!!
Awesome 👍💞 🌹😊 🌹🌹😎😂So HAPPY to know we have a way to renew our countertops, without the expense of a new one. Thanks for sharing!! 🤗🤗🌹🌹
Hi Sharon, thank you! So glad you are pleased. Let us know if we can be of help!
We're going to be doing this next weekend in our kitchen. I picked the color Sundance because we have oak colored cabinets and I thought it would look nice. We're selling our home and still had the ugly laminate countertop so I'm hoping this spreadstone will help update our kitchen a little bit.
It’s funny how many DIY videos with millions of views on countertops there are. Huge industry!
This is one of the first DIY projects I ever did and it was very easy, this video helped a lot! I refinished my kitchen counters about 3.5 years ago and they are still holding up well after heavy daily use! The only issue I’ve had is that the clear coat stains easily if a bright food is left on it too long, and it doesn’t do well with heat. If I get a stain on it I scrub it off with a magic eraser (which strips off the clear top coat) and I re-apply a layer of top coat ever 1.5 years or so to keep it strong.
I ordered this product and I live in Florida, it took a week to receive and that's good fast service and it's FREE shipping. I don't know what G Griffin is complaining about they had EXCELLENT customer service and answered all my questions professionally and with courtesy. In fact both my Aunt and Uncle ordered the product and received the same great service. My Aunt lives in Florida also and my Uncle in California. This product is heads above the Rustoleum product and much less $$$. It was also easier to apply and the result was fantastic. Countertop transformation in one weekend as they promised. I am considering using the RollerRock product they have for my Garage floor but that will wait until I have time to de-clutter. Thank you Daich Coatings! for a professional product at an affordable cost with excellent customer service.
Jim Johnson does your counter still look good
Beautiful presentation. You make people feel confident and comfortable
Thanks you very much Loriann! We are doing our best! 🙂
I love this product!
I haven't done the clear coat yet, but these are my tips and suggestions. (Note: I did not remove the sink; instead, I meticulously taped off, and trimmed the edges with a wallpaper cutter.)
* I used Frog tape on the painted surfaces, and 3M blue tape around the edges of my stainless sink. (The Frog tape wouldn't stick to the stainless.)
* I wished there were three short stirrer sticks included in the kit. It's a cheap add-on, and would have prevented my scrambling for them "mid-stream*. Otherwise, I really appreciated the tray, paintbrush, roller frame and roller refills included in the kit.
* I used wood filler (not water soluble) for my patches. No regrets. I was concerned about spackle patches raising because the kit's products are water-soluable.
* Though I followed the primer instructions to the letter, I ended up using more of the primer than I expected. This is probably a user error -- I was concerned with the coverage over many patches. And I really worked at evening out the surface -- the stuff dries really fast.
* Ok, this may have been an interpretation error, but on my first pass with the primer, I did ALL the areas recommend be done with the paintbrush, and then did the roller areas. NOPE, DON"T DO THAT. Work in sections, doing the paintbrush parts first, and then the roller areas. You'll have a smoother, more edgeless finish.
* Paying attention to the instruction video, I didn't wait 24 hours to sand after the second stone coat -- I waited four hours. I started sanding the top edge of the backsplash manually with 120 grit sand paper. While the results were satisfactory, it would have taken me a lifetime to sand the all the surfaces. And I was confident that my *regular* orbital sander wouldn't be a help on the vertical surfaces, and moreover in the corners. So I went to my local Menard's, and picked up an orbital DETAIL sander for about $25. Best money I could have spent. I knocked off the high stuff on the horizontal surfaces of the backsplash and vertical edge of the counter top with 100P sandpaper. And then manually sanded them with 120 grit. As for the horizontal surfaces, I started with 80P sandpaper to knock off the high stuff, and switched to 120P. (I worked it this way in sections.) No regrets. The smaller SANDER detail tool took care of the corners with a combo of 100P and 120P (including behind the faucet). And really facilitated the sanding around the sink edges. I had to repair only three small edges doing it this way--very minor re-work in the scheme of things.
* Because I wasn't able to clean all the primer and stone coat from the tray provided, I picked up another tray during the same Menard's run for the clear coat. I really want a clear(!) coat.
* On about 32 sf of counter and backsplash, I used a little over half of the primer, and only one can of the stone coat. Even following the instructions to "x" coat, the speckling wasn't as even as pictured in the sample online. That's OK. The stone coat looks natural, with darker and lighter areas.
* I vacuumed and wiped down the stone coat with a damp cloth in prep for the clear coat. Sweeping and vacuuming were not enough to clear the dust. (There will be at least 9 hours of dry time before I apply the first clear coat.)
So far, I couldn't be happier with the results.
I will update this post after doing the clear coat. Even with the small inconveniences noted above, I would recommend this product. I'm preparing to put my home up for sale, and am doing improvements to minimize buyer objections. Replacing the counter with even stock Formica countertops, even including the cost of the detail sander, would have cost more than 4x this solution.
shelbea stark thanks for that advice, that's what I was after the saving between this or new worktop you rekon about 4 times I think I'll try this as I'm tradesman plasterer and good at painting, can you tell me where you bought it and the price, thanks, good luck with your home
THANK YOU for your info...
I watched and researched a ton of different ways to cover the kitchen counter. I went with this method and just purchased a kit. I am excited and hope it works out well. It looks terrific. It appears from what I researched to be the most durable. I even got it on sale. Made the hubby very happy
How did your countertop project turn out?
I needed something very simple to work with and a cheap diy for an old lady 😁👍
Oh heck yes, I am going to do this! I have a MAUVE kitchen counter top. It extends over into the living room, as a bar top. For you guys, mauve is a shade of pink. 😝 Even the primer in this video looks better than my pink counter top!
OMG me TOO! What were they thinking? How did it turn out?
Gorgeous!
Quite frankly, if you move into a home and you have lovely plans for redos, sometimes you can do this to freshen up and clean y our place. You may need an HVAC or new yard or tub. In in the finest of places. So, that's a ton of equity. Choose your upgrades and prioritize. In 3 years if you have a mortgage or big sale you can go for your dream counter. They are expensive and young families and rent homes also can use this technique. So thank you.
I've used this and recommend!
Randall Taylor how does it feel to touch? Like stone?
How well does this work with food how easy o wash and keep nice? Does it come in varyase shades?
Fantastic video. Thanks for uploding
Awesome way to recycle!
That’s awesome!!
I flip a couple of homes a year on the side. This product is a home flipper's and DIYelfer's dream come true. Amazing durable results at a very fair price. THAKS! If you guys can get your production up and sell this at Home Depote or Lowes, they won't be able to keep it in stock.
I flip homes and while I used this in my home, I would never use it in a flip.
I will check into it. Thank you.
can you use this product on cultured marbles? thanks
That's awesome Annie! We are very happy to hear you are so pleased with your results. When we formulated the product, it was our goal to ensure that the process was easy and enjoyable - with results you could be proud of.
If you get a chance, please feel free to send over some photos of your finished project. We would love to see them Annie. Thank you!

No problems at all Annie. You can put on as many coats as you like as long as you allow the recommended time between coats as instructed. The clear coat does dry fairly quickly and provides a highly durable finish. Have fun!
Daich Coatings Corporation excellent excellent excellent
Beautiful. Thanks.
Looks great!
Pete C have you see the girl on the box arts hummm
I don't understand your question.
This is an absolutely fantastic product, just follow the simple instructions, we are over the moon with our new look kitchen top, we highly recommend this to anyone that wants to save $$$$$$$t!! I'm not what one would term as a "handyman"
Hello, thanks for the feedback! I just watched the video.
Is there any way to do a refinish on ceramic tile for a seamless finish free of grout lines?
Wowww looks really nice
can a person do a 3rd coat of the clear if there is enough left over or would this cause problems? Thanks
I am doing to do this this week and will post the results. if i screw up at least youtube will give me courage to try again!! wish me luck guys!!!
Hi NHJ!
No luck will be required. You are going to knock it out of the park. Be sure to let us know if you need any help along away. We are here for you!
Great thanks Randall
We are currently doing this to our countertops. The primer is super thick! So is the stone coating. We have some areas with excessive stone but in areas where it's gonna be heavy use so no big deal. Just letting it cure for another 12 hours then we'll sand and clear coat. Looks great already
Yeah the primer reminds me of paint mixed with drywall mud. maybe that's what it is? 🤔
All are gorgeous!! But I love #2,, thanks for the great ideas!!
Will this stuff work on something besides laminate I have some kind of unknown to me plastic countertop that it looks like quartz but it's just plastic molded over wood
I want to try this on my counter top!!!
I do not have Contoured Edges on the Counter Top or Back Splash. I have the old type where the Laminate is pieced together on the edges ( basically seams ). Would I need to fill in the Seams ?
Wow very nice and beautiful
If someone could answer this one question that would be great. But is the finished product smooth enough to write on? Such as just a piece of paper and pen without tears in the paper?
How did you make the first coat the primer which product did you mix
What if you have square edges on the back splash and the countertop
Love this make over.🇦🇺🙏💕
Thanks you for sharing this beautiful work with a great Example.
Curious how your product holds up to just regular kitchen grease that eventually will get on the surface. I used a similar product a couple years ago and it was kitchen grease and even the oil from hands that ruined the clear coat finish.
can i use this on tiles and get the same affect
Question, does this product come out n a solid white color. Also is the smell real strong?
Is there a product like this that can be used on interior walls instead of standard psint, i love the industrial concrete look, obv you wldnt put epoxy on the wall coverage.
Could this also be used on cabinets and floors, (floors obv using epoxy)?
Can I put this coating onto plywood or malimine board,?
Can i repair some surface after the top coat applied and dried? I have very obvious bumpy surface.
i like this guys voice.
My friend just finished doing her counter tops which I saw today. She used 3 coats of this and 4 top coats of sealer. She never sanded between coats and it is not smooth at all. It looks to me like it has bubbled between coats, but she said that is how it is supposed to be. Is it supposed to feel textured and not smooth. Is this a trend to have rough counter tops? I am really curious. It will be very hard to clean without a brush. God bless
What color is the version we see in the video? Lodestone? I see your options at Home Depot but that color shade doesn't seem to match.
PS if I cannot use this on tile countertops, do you make a product specifically to go over tile countertops?
Can you use this on tile counters?
Looks like a nice product, but all of the products of this type that I see being applied are being done on countertops with some kind a "bullnose" edge. Does anyone know if these kinds of products can be used on countertops with a "right angle" or "hard cornered" edge? And if so, how do you get enough of the product to stay on that edge when applying?
Wonder if you could apply this over greyboard in a shower application?
Is it possible to add another color stone to an existing color?
Can this stone application be used over a wood blocker board counter?
a friend that did this to a home his family was selling, told me that good formica is tougher than you think, he had a heck of a time roughing it up, got it done, but said its not as easy as you think it is. He showed me pictures, it came out well
Use a DA sander
True - Formica is very tough. I used a power sander with 60 grit paper and even after that the Formica felt smooth. However, apparently I roughed it up enough because the primer adhered to it very well.
@@johnw9245 I have very decent neutral color Formica in my kitchen that is about 35-36 years old, inherited my parents large home and Mom baked cake's, bread and even canned, it's still good, amazingly, I doubt I will keep it a lot longer as I'm thinking about a complete countertop change, if I run short of $, I can just do a refinishing.
Hi Camsway. The SpreadStone product is an actual stone surface that is being applied onto your existing laminate (Formica) surface. This results in not only an attractive speckled granite appearance, but very high durability as well. SpreadStone is also very simple to apply, since it is rolled on like paint. There is no need for creativity, time-consuming techniques or complicated tools. The SpreadStone product is an easy premium quality surface that's very competitively priced. Thanks.
How much paint was used in this demonstration
I just did this to my countertops in the natural white and I placed a rusty tool on the top and it left a rust stain?! Any tips on how to remove this?
After removing the old caulk/sealant, did you or do you re-caulk around the sink edge, faucet and back-splash area with some type of silicone caulk, clear or colored, before or after the process is complete or at what point in the process, or do you need to caulk at all? Thanks ahead of time.
I did.
Can you put on the first stone coat and do the second one the next day? Instead of the hour required time.
Where I can buy this material ؟
I wanted to ask can you use portions of the coating, or is once the container is open you have to use it all?
I just used the product again on another cabinet after it sat for 3 yrs.
I'm confused now. We watched this video, and bought the kit. The video says primer coat, but the kit doesn't have cans of primer. Do we just use a regular primer?
I can't get that blasted music out of my head now
😅😅
Is it possible to sand it even further with finer sandpaper to get a smoother finish?
where can i have the kit i am in india and willing to do it on pillars
Amazing thank you god bless you
