Just picked up a 2012 Chevy sonic from the original owner, & wanted to change the oil myself. No need for me to look at any other video, because this video is perfect. Thank you much. God Bless you.
This is one of the best laid out and thorough videos I've seen. Thank you for taking the time to do this! I shared it with my son and I think it will definitely help him since I'm not there to help him.
One thing worth mentioning: The factory oil drain plug is made of aluminum which is very soft and the bolt head will round off quite easily. After only two oil changes (the two FREE oil changes I got from Chevy when I bought my Trax), the plug head was rounded off and I had to remove it with an extractor socket. I then replaced the drain plug with a steel aftermarket plug made by Dorman. Picked it up at O'Reilly's for around $7. I'll be changing my own oil from now on. The only reason why I got it done at the dealer was because the first two were free.
Thanks Dave, replaced the exhaust and noticed how easy it should be to do my own oil.. wasn’t sure of the exact process so went to UA-cam to find out and came across your video.. well laid out like previous comments.. stated appreciate the video 😊 next time I need an oil change I’ll do it myself!
Videos like these are the untold heroes of UA-cam. Planning on finally doing my own oil change, knew relatively how to, but love to get a warm and fuzzy on where things are and such before going at it. Much love to you! A question for you though, if you're still reading comments. Do you listen to your oil change indicator of the vehicle, or not? Mine always goes off well before I personally think it's due, even if the people doing the oil changes try to say that I need to get another change in 6 (or sometimes 3 lmao) months.
Thanks for making it appear so simple and easy. I am looking forward to changing my own oil from my Chevy Sonic. What are the sizes of the sockets again?
Thanks for the clear and concise instructions and a big bonus for mentioning both socket sizes😆. I was questioning whether or not I was looking at the oil filter in my own car because I thought they were all traditionally pointed upwards being accessible only from the bottom. Well I was wrong. I was hoping that wasn't it because then that fat hose is right in the way.
@@vegasdavetv I have to say that changing the oil on the sonic was one of the easier oil changes I've done. Minor tip, here in Canada if you by 5 'quarts' of pennzoil in individual quarts it will cost 69.95 plus tax Whereas if you buy a 5 'quart' (some litres) jug it will cost only about 35 dollars (depending on the store and if it's on sale).
Do you have to put oil on the oil filter!? Like as lube or can you put it dry as is? Just wondering cuz my old car the mechanics always put oil on filter but here you didn't. Just making sure
