Colin you should of started on the roof of the van first so all dirt flows down and then it washed off as u do sides but still looks good

Firstly, don't use a high pressure washer on any leisure vehicle. You'll blow water past the seals and sealant between panels. Especially an older, neglected vehicle. A 10% concentration of truck wash applied to a pre rinsed panel with a sponge will shift nearly all over the grime. Wash small areas and rinse as you go starting at the bottom and work your way up, rinsing as you go. If you work from the top the detergent running through the dirt will burn streaks into the paint finish. Do the roof last and keep the sides wet. Protect with a quality wax like AutoGlym

A good wash can take years off the appearance of any vehicle. It made all the difference to this old Merc Motorhome. It scrubbed up pretty well. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with with the project. I’m sure the end product will be brilliant.

Yeah there's a street in our city centre where the last two parking spaces are usually empty under a couple of trees because your car usually is full of bird bog on return to unsuspecting parkers demise.

Quite a few car dealers leave the hatchbacks open a few hours a day especially in summer to let air get to the cars interior.

Jet washing is a really satisfying job that produces almost instant results which then gives to the motivation to tackle some of the other jobs.
Sorting out the ceiling shouldn't be too bad. Based on my experience with my old T25, the first thing to do is to rip out all of the old ceiling and find out where the water comes in which will almost certainly be around the roof lights. I wasted time trying to add sealant to stop the leaks but found out that it was quicker and better to take the roof lights out, make new frames and then refit the roof lights as if it was a new build. It took possibly 2 hours per roof light doing it on my own and it's a lot better with an assistant to cut down on ladder climbing.
Have fun, it will be more than worth it in the end.

Waxing vehicles means dirt doesn't stick so easily it takes longer to get dirty and it's easier to clean, it's also more difficult to maliciously scratch.

Good job, make sure whenever it’s washed, do it outside of the sunlight
And in some shade if possible as water dries quickly and leaves nasty water marks which can be hard to get off at times.

Hi Colin, I did car valeting for 20 years, best product for removing years of grime from a vehicle is CTFR (concentrated traffic film remover), amazing stuff, you can also use on engine and underbody to remove grease. You can buy from eBay, around £30.00 for 25Litres. Apart from that, vehicle looking better.

Hi Colin, great little project you’ve taken on there, I agree with most of the comments made already, as long as your careful removing the roof lights you should be able to see problems points and effect a good repair, the thing that could give you more problems is the jet washing , if you have it on the setting of a more direct jet instead of the fan type spray it is more prone to washing/forcing the mastic out of the joints and what’s sealing around windows, doors & roof lights, as a rule the manufacturer will state that it’s more likely that the mastic may be needing to be replaced after around ten years, I noticed that someone had tried re-sealing in places, the trouble with that is it’s a waste of time trying to cover what’s already sealing the joints with silicone as it will not adhere to what’s actually already there, it’s going to need completely removing all the existing sealant and replacing with a recommended sealant such as Sikoflex which is one of the best on the market for caravan’s & Motorhome repairs. Please don’t think I’m trying to be clever or whatever, it’s just that unless you can do a good job with the correct sealants it will save you time and money in the future plus you truck will look all the better for it 😀😀😀 I hope I have given you some good tips and that you will see the difference once you’ve finished the truck. So Good Luck with your project hope it goes well for you, I’m sure you will make a good job of it . 😊😊😊😊😊

The wax at most DIY jet washes is usually very good.

    • @OldestYoungenInGuidePost
      @OldestYoungenInGuidePost 7 місяців тому

I discovered when washing my bike and my helmet visor got the wax finish on it and I wiped it off and it wasn't until later when there was a few drops of rain on my visor but it didn't stop on and came straight off🤔
Turns out it's REALLY good as a repellent of water, so I got the car and took it for a wash and pressed the wax finish button and done the car and then filled up my 25 litre container with wax finish 😋😇
From there I put some in a tiny fine mist spray bottle and I now use that instead of buying the expensive ones from the shop,
So It cost me £2.50 for 25 litres, and I was paying £1.99 from the shop for the other stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️
I think I've got enough to last a long time 👌🏼😋👍🏼👍🏼

That video of hidden Fords has comments turned off. That Merkur XR4Ti is actually Sierra that was exported to USA and Canada Market. Since GMC had name Sierra already in use for their trucks. Ford had to change something. They decided to sell the car through Mercury dealership. Mercury translated to German is Merkur. The car was, I believe exported from late 1984, to 1989. They were equiped with Lima 4 cylinder engine, bored to 2.3 and fitted with turbo. Turbo had big lag, no intercooler so owners would address that in later years on their own. It was also of course fuel injected. Arou d 40 thousand of these were exported, probably few hundred are still around. All cars were assembled in Karman Ghia factory in Germany and then exported overseas. They suppose to compete with BMW M3 from that era, were very fast, but problem was price. Ratio between American dollar and deutsch mark made these Merkurs very expensive. There are many clubs in USA were people meet to keep them alive. Definitely very rare in America, not to mention that gem in the barn in England. They were all equiped with AC, you could have automatic or 5 speed manual, also power steering, power windows, bord computer, sunroof, leather or cloth seats. Front lights were plastic, they would go yellow with time. Many mechanical parts were different than euro spec Sierra
Karman Ghia also assembled and exported, at the same time Scorpio mk1 in only 5 door version equiped with 2.9 v6 and loaded with bells and whistles. Merkur Scorpio is today absolute unicorn, those who survived are kept away in garage. There's one for sale in Toronto for 11.000$ in immaculate shape. Even today, Americans don't dig, they don't understand the philosophy and design of European Ford. Comparing these two with boxy looking cars from 80ies, we can say, design wise, European Ford was way ahead of it's time.
