Hayward makes it all look so easy, what a talent, yet the masses worship in my opinion lesser talented groups of that era. The Moodies were the complete package of Singers, Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists and I can think of no other group that had that much talent in a band and could write songs that certainly stood the test of time. My favourite album was A Question of Balance, and my fav track Pinder's HOW IS IT (WE ARE HERE). Haywards guitar solo is just outstanding and way ahead of it time.
"Lesser talented group of that era", you say..i am so lucky i live in that era, 60s 70s 80s..EVERY GROUP WAS TALENTED.. no lesser ones except in your time
Wow... Justin's voice and his songs touch me in a way nobody else ever could. He is so special and unique, brilliant at everything he does. He always uplifts me when I feel down and I thank him for that, over very many years. 😍😎🤗
OMG! This is so wonderful! I always enjoy seeing Justin perform this song, but this is really outstanding! I love seeing him play his little Farfisa keyboard, then start his amazing vocals and then his red Gibson does the talking! And what a guitar solo! The stuff of rock and roll heaven! Thank you Maggie!
Hi y’all… This by far is my favorite Justin Hayward video look at the emotion in his face and in his eyes and the expression as he uses the keyboard to make the music and the melody of the song that he loves so dearly and it’s so close to his heart and his childhood growing up I adore this human being I adore his prowess for songwriting and his musical talent and I think his wife is a gem of a human being
I love Justin Hayward I have loved him since knights in white satin hit no.1 or 2 in the states. I have all the Moody blues cds. He has a beautiful voice.
love that guitar solo, and the guitar tone. Justin is a superb lead guitarist, a fact often overlooked on account of the fact that he is also a superb vocalist and songwriter :-)
Syfoll He plays with emotion and/or whatever works perfectly for the songs he writes/plays. He makes his guitar sing like it’s an extension of his voice. That’s a different skill, which is as (or arguably more) valuable than being technically great. Only a few great guitarists can also sing exceptionally well. Justin would be the first to admit he’s not the greatest guitarist but he’s also not trying to be a virtuoso.
terrific video... Difficult to pick my all time favorite Moodies song but this could be it. Love Julie singing solo at about 4:50. I was at this concert... 100% Moody Blues magic.. !!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen probably every video of this song and this is the most passionate and beautiful one thus far!!!! I love the way he ended the song...very nice touch!!! THANK YOU soooo much for sharing!!!!
I met my future wife Mariola on May 8th, 1980, and fell in love instantly and deep. :-) But during summer 1980 we were in different countries and I was missing Her so much... So when writing letters to Her I quoted this song, declaring how much I long for the day we meet again. This finally happened in August. :-) Quite soon, in Feb 1982 we got married and lived together happily for over 34 years, having children and grandchildren. On July 10, 2016 my beloved Mariola passed away. :-( So now since over 4 years again I am looking forward to the day we meet again - this time in Heaven, in front of the Almighty God, where She is waiting for me. This will be a wonderful day!!! Justin Hayward - thank You for this song!
A musician who speaks with his guitar and explains the song with his face to the audience is a very complete one. How could anyone stay indifferent to such interpretation? For not talking about his interaction with the rest of the band. When this happens, one can say that one is immersed in a true and unique music experience. Enjoy and look at every detail from John Lodge to Graeme and Justin.
I saw them do this live on the "Octave" tour in 1978 in Buffalo, with Patrick Moraz providing the keyboard textures. John said it was the first song they recorded during the sessions. One of the stronger tracks on the album. Good that they brought it back at this late date! In my "Moodies" live playlist with a 1978 version. Thanks for the upload!
Sorry I got so caught up with the video I forgot to tell you what a GREAT job you did filming! You were able to capture the pure essence of the song...and of Justin:)
Wow! Thanks, Dr. Maggie. This is beautiful, of course, it's Justin Hayward. You do such a great job. I've loved your photos for decades and now I love your videos.
Kind of makes me feel like I'm on a transparent sailing ship going through space heading towards the center of the universe to reach a place that has all the anwers to mankind....heaven !!
I love this song and this video!!! I didn't think this song could get any better, that is until I heard it LIVE!!! The live version is BRILLIANT!!! Love the guitar solo at the end. But I do miss the vocals at end of studio version too.....guess I can't make up my mind LOL Thank you.... again! BTW...this is LBMoody1046.
I find Justin Hayward's voice to be so emotionally moving as are his songs. John Lodge has a great rock voice but he has also written some very intricate songs like House of 4 doors, etc. Ray Thomas (RIP) wrote some wonderful songs and had a great voice. Mike Pinder had a wonderful baritone voice and was there evera more spiritual song than One Step into the Light and Graeme Edge wrote some wonderful poems and some songs. He could sing too (22,000 days, I'll be level with you). All in all the greatest band ever. We are privileged to have them in our lifetime. But will they ever perform again after this pandemic is over or do we have to remember them as they were ?
One of the reasons Justin Hayward was such a superb song writer is the fact that his lyrics are somehow both personal and universal. There have been many speculations about the meanings of some of his songs. (Nights in White Satin is autobiographical...and yet we have all had that experience...or have dreamed of it.) Given the timing of the composing and recording of The Day We Meet Again, some have speculated that this song was an homage to Mike Pinder, who at that time had announced he was leaving the group. The last Mk.II Moodies album, Octave, had only one Pinder composition and NO Mellotron, Mike's signature keyboard. Mike brought Justin into the group, and as best as I can tell, they have had a very close yet ambivalent relationship. Justin occasionally talks quite lovingly about Mike in some of his solo shows. I have not heard similar statements about Justin from Mike, but Mike hasn't toured in decades. Similarly, one of the best Hayward songs on Seventh Sojourn is (IMHO) New Horizons, which while totally universal, is reportedly Justin's love song to his father, who had recently passed away. Who knows? Yet we all relate. That's the brilliance of the Moody Blues.
Great Lyrics... always wondering what was Hayward thinking when he wrote them years and years ago? "Cos the years have been so lonely... Like a dog without a home, especially... It's dangerous when you find out You've been drinking on your own. Have seen many a driver late at night on the highways like that!
There have been and are many, many superb guitarists. I would not put Justin in the same league as Jimi, Leonard, Stevie, etc. He would never have become known if he was "merely" a guitarist; it's his voice and composing chops that made him (and the Moodies) famous and wealthy. Like many in the Mk.II Moody Blues, he is a very talented and gifted musician on his own, but the Moodies are a prime example of the Whole being greater than the Sum of the Parts. Speaking of which, there are many, many superb keyboardists and flutists out there. While both are (or in Ray's case were) excellent musicians, Mike was not in the same league as Keith or Rick. In fact, Patrick Moraz is a technically better keyboardist than Mike, BUT (and it's a huge "but"), he clearly did not have the song-writing chops of a Mike Pinder, and he could not come close to Mike when it came to Mellotron/Novatron. Same with Ray. I think one can argue that Ian Anderson is a better technical player, but Ray had lasting power. (Side note: Anderson was insulted when the Moodies replaced Ray with Norda Mullen, without asking him if he would join the group...which he clearly would have done.) There is a reason only Hayward and Lodge had some success as solo artists; all the rest of the Moodies put out competent but not spectacular solo albums. None came even close to selling like a Moodies recording. BTW, I have lately been paying close attention to John as a bassist. Talk about being under-appreciated! As a former strictly mediocre (at best) bassist myself (I'm talking stand-up, double bass), I must say: John Lodge is a truly superb player. Totally under-rated as such. I believe all the Moodies (except maybe Graeme) are or were gifted multi-instrumentalists. John, Justin, and Mike were all competent to superb with bass, guitars, and pretty much any keyboard.
You know, I strongly preferred the Moodies when they played WITHOUT orchestras, without the razzle-dazzle of Patrick Moraz, and without an additional drummer. I think their songs become much less personal with all that added fluff. They also sound better...I've seen them close to two dozen times, starting in Octobr, 1972, with my last time being in Las Vegas in October, 2018. For the Moodies Mk.III, this is an excellent recording.

Its just not fair that one individual has that much class and musical talent and appears is so humble blows my mind since days of future passed
truth ! ! !
That's what makes him a great person!
❤
Yes!
Brilliant, whenever I feel sad or something I just listen to Justin and everything is alright again.
Wow... Justin's voice and his songs touch me in a way nobody else ever could. He is so special and unique, brilliant at everything he does. He always uplifts me when I feel down and I thank him for that, over very many years. 😍😎🤗

love that guitar solo, and the guitar tone. Justin is a superb lead guitarist, a fact often overlooked on account of the fact that he is also a superb vocalist and songwriter :-)
And I was lucky enough to meet and shake hands with him a few years back, Really a nice guy!
@@IMRDP - Lucky you! Way 2 go!! Did you have a backstage pass?
I'd say he is adequate as a lead guitarist, not superb, he's a much better rhythm guitar player though.
