  • On April 16, 2022, we went to Georgetown in Washington, D.C., and interviewed strangers about their professions and how much they made. We had no idea this day would change our lives forever.
Our goal is to improve pay equity and help close existing pay gaps that marginalize women, minorities, and workers with disabilities by removing the taboo surrounding these conversations.
We'll be uploading more of our interviews (including clips that didn't make the 60-second cut!), as well as more dynamic, thought-provoking content. We hope you enjoy :)
    Transparently,
Hannah and the STS Team 💚

Federal Law: it is unlawful for an employer to have a work rule, policy, or hiring agreement that prohibits employees from discussing their wages with each other or that requires you to get the employer’s permission to have such discussions. If your employer does any of these things, a charge may be filed against the employer with the NLRB.

If people say they work for the government, you have to ask what precisely they do! That’s as vague as someone saying they work for a business - that means nothing at all.

it's true to a certain extent. If i could make 200k in a commission sales position or something i'd still rather be a software engineer making 80k for sure because i like it and hate sales.

Surly the correct answer is..... there has to be a balance... a job you LOVE that doesn’t pay for food is garbage
A job you HATE but pays 2 million a year is great...
There’s a gray area somewhere in the middle

You should never allow your passion for anything make you think it’s okay to be underpaid. Employers want people who say they are passionate because they will find it easier to exploit them as these people typically believe their work gives their life meaning. Money should come first for us workers because it certainly comes number 1 to the ruling class

@@sumukhshankarhegde2853 Most good homes / buildings are minimum 4k month, 100k would be somewhere around 3k every 2 weeks after taxes , so 2k left for yourself that would cover food and car. If you have kids and a wife that will be gone quickly in DC , so usually .. the wife works too. Best area's are 1.5million + homes. around $8,000 -> $9,000 monthly depending on your down payment. If you don't mind living in area's that have high crime you can find something cheaper. Anything that comes out cheaper in a good area that looks nice, competition is super high. It's better to live outside DC and use the metro or drive into work.
