As many commenters, I consider this video to be the best I've seen about this game. I'm doing How-to-Play videos myself (in french) and from now on, I will take yours as models.
This is, by far, the best rules explanation of Brass Lancashire I've been able to find. Moreover, you managed to do it in just 26 minutes, awesome. Thank you Paul!
Brass Lancashire took me a couple of games to learn how to play even after watching this video, but I can definitely recommend it, especially with the Brass Lancashire 3D Tokens.
No worries. I think many of us need video tutorials to really understand complex rules. Trying to deliver the essence of a game before we play, especially a complex Euro, saps the energy of some of my group. Having a really concise quick start really helps. I can then go back to the rules for a clarification. I would suggest an added offering could be an appendix of common questions or stumbling areas but appreciate this would probably take too long to produce. Again, thanks for the great work in taking something complex and making it easily consumable.
Fantastic, best rules video for this game i have seen. This will help so much introducing it to other players. Hope you do one for Birmingham to highlight the differences.
Very clear explanation of the rules, that I had been struggling with when reading the rule book. This will set me up nicely for my first game and have recommended your video to those coming to play
I'm new to your channel. I was a KS backer for this game and the rulebook has a few things for which I was confused. I had to go to the forums and other videos to finally figure out what I needed. I wish you had posted this before. This is definitely the best rules explanation for the game. Nicely done.
Finally the explanation for all heard new game brass, was waiting for this before buying the game , it looks complicated and i better be ready when it will arrive ,as always , thank you for excellent how to play video.
Again, I made the mistake of jumping into a game with a hazy understanding of rules...it turned into hours of "I think that's how this works..." and "wait, did we do that wrong?" Though still enjoyable, it was a rough start. So, I just watched your tutorial and realized all the mistakes we made in playing! In half the time we spect consulting the rulebook or stumbling through our own confusion, we could have just watched this video and known everything. Thank you for the great content! I will definitely have my husband watch this with me before we attempt our second play.
Yeah, if all the players at the table would have watched this video at the start of the game, it probably would have saved you an hour and a lot less confusion :) I do the hard work, so you don't have to :) Thanks for watching, and your support.
Such a great video, so clear and straight forward. You really filled in a lot of gaps that I missed when I played my first game. And of course no one wants coal from Yorkshire, everyone knows that Welsh coal was by far superior!
So lovely to see dolphins on the board, swimming happily. If there were any dolphins swimming about this area of the world during these times they'd be either hunted down and eaten or swimming belly up in all that muck :) Anyway, I'm still trying to decide whether I need this game in my collection seeing I have Brass Birmingham. I must admit I like the beer mechanics of BB more, although ports take on the role of breweries it seems. One thing I like about BL is the shortcut to the "wild cards" from BB, instead of hassling with discarding three cards to grab a wild location and wild industry you simply discard two cards and build wherever you like. Anyway, I might grab BL if I find it on sale one day but for the time being I'll stick with BB :) Excellent video, the coal is particularly well explained, that's probably the most complicated thing for many, not complicated but rather easily overlooked when you plan your strategy. You have a perfect move planned and you're ready to start with your power combo only to realise you are actually not connected to any coal! :O
Great video, Paul, this will totally negate my need to teach it when we get to play it - and it's a good chunk quicker than my timed, planned teaching script, too!
Really excellent - thanks so much for this! Really helped us get to grips with this fantastically compelling but complex game! Excellent delivery and concise detail! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
FANTASTIC VIDEO - really good annotations, clearly showing relevant cards + board spaces, probably the best Rules video I've seen on this game. Shame it wasn't all in a Lancashire accent lol!
@@GamingRulesVideos I played yesterday with 2 friends (3 player game). We barely had to reference the rules. That's how good a job you did on this one. I mean all your vids are great but this one is the pinacle of them all :) In particular the way you chose to organise the various rules (the sequencing) was just spot on.
Cool. Definitely recommend sending prospective players the link to help you get started more quickly. Or pop the video on at the start of the game. Might seem odd, but it is probably quicker than a teach in person and takes the pressure off the teacher - I've done the hard work for you :)
Fantastic rules yet again, watched again as I’ve not played in a while and I’m going to teach my son. Where did you get the chips from? They are excellent.
Loved the brief manner for a big explanation. I got 2 questions. 1) where can you doble build on the map, I didn't know this was possible. 2) I'm no clear on overbuild. This is just a standard action?
Great video, tried playing the first time yesterday and got to some questions the rulebook didnt really answere. Here is one If there are 2links to the same citie were theres 2 link-icons, how many points will that be? 4 or 6?
Hi Lizett. Each link scores individually, so if you had 2 links to the Midlands (where there are 2 link icons), those links would be worth 2 points each (and more if there were any link icons in the cities at the other end. Hope this helps. It is the link tile itself which scores the points.
At 17:57 how come is it allowed to build the second connection from Warrington to Manchester? I thought you could only build when the location was adjacent to a tile you own or to a connection, but there is no industry in Warrington. I thought you needed to build first in Warrington so you could place the link to Manchester.
Please Paul can you help me with that question: What happens if I build an iron industry and there are no iron cubes in the supply? Do I take the number of cubes, printed on the tile, from the iron market and after that sell it back to the market? I can't find an explanation for it... and we already had this situation in a 3 player game.
This is a question which has cropped up a few times. First, if there are no iron cubes in the supply then it means they are all on the board on already built iron mines. Therefore, building another one at that point is probably a bad idea, so you probably shouldn't do it. However, if you do, cubes are not intended to be limited, so just borrow some from somewhere else for now (some people borrow them from the top of the market). Hope that helps.
@@GamingRulesVideos Thank you for the fast answer! I will use your advice in the next games. And thanks for the easily understandable rule Video! It's very useful, because I can't find a German rule video.
I have a question regarding the overbuilding: If I want to over build my coal in a city, do I need to discard a coal card or the specific city card ? Or could it be any card I discard ?
I’m sure this is on BGG and the printed rules, but the first two shipyards with padlock you say “develop them away”, what does that mean? Do you mean another way?
Liked the video very much, well done, easy to follow, not boring at all, helps especially if you haven‘t played Brass in two years 😬 Still: why do you conSHume so much mate? 🤪
Hi Paul, I am your big fan! One question (i might be wrong). The rulebook version 20/11/18 said “Income is not collected at the end of the final round of the game”. It leads me to think that you will receive income normally at the beginning of the round. Please correct me if i am wrong
This game honestly doesn't look and sound that complicated. I have played games with more convoluted scorings, like Scythe (good god) and Russian Railroads.

Thank you for this tutorial video. I just unboxed and sleeved up my new copy of Lancashire and can't wait to play now. Btw, nice Oasis case!

One of best boardgames IMO. Looks great, lot of strategy, not a lot of luck, not incredibly long setup time (while not the fastest)
Best. Game. Ever.
Terrific video :)
Hi Paul, at 2:46 is it worth noting that those money poker chips don't come with the standard retail edition of the game?
oh rats. I was supposed to mention that at the start and forgot :(
I can't change it now unfortunately.
They look nice! Where are they from?
The deluxe version of the game.
I think you forget to mention that when you get to Nathan you can't take any loans during that last round.
I think he says that at about 7:11 :)
Harald Dalbakken Thanks.
Yep, I definitely said it and showed the tile moving to the bank area. I think maybe my soothing voice made Eric fall asleep :)
It seems quite complex. Is it any good to play?

I have a question regarding the overbuilding: If I want to over build my coal in a city, do I need to discard a coal card or the specific city card ? Or could it be any card I discard ?
Superb
When the Distant Market Marker reaches the "X", how does it re-set back to the top again? Or does it just stay at the bottom? I don't understand.
I’m sure this is on BGG and the printed rules, but the first two shipyards with padlock you say “develop them away”, what does that mean? Do you mean another way?
I mean that you need to remove them from your player board with the develop action
Shipyard tiles that show the "padlock" icon may not be build, you must use the Develop action to remove them from your board.

nope. other than to remind you that the end of the round has been triggered.
