My old man passed tragically at age 56. Thank you so much for sharing this process. I know how tough it must be to watch this progression, but it's beautiful that you have the opportunity to love him every day for the rest of his life, you are a blessing my friend ❤
Sorry for your loss. I just turned 56 on Friday. I've already outlived my maternal nanny and my paternal grandfather. My last grandparent, my maternal grandfather (obviously) passed at 92 after suffering from Alzheimer’s. One day at a time eh. It's all we all have ❤🙏
I lost my Dad when I was 6 years old and always think about what conversations would be like if he was alive today. He would've been 71 on the 6th of this month 😢
I also lost my Dad right after his 60th birthday at the young age of 61. I am sorry for your loss and the fact that you had to endure two losses.... First the loss of the person and their mental state and the second loss is the physical loss. I appreciate Dan for sharing so more people can understand and hopefully someone will fight like hell to come up with a cure and preventative treatment.
They're incredibly lucky Ed is this way. Many are not and are very mean and combative. Very hard to take care where Ed is pleasantly confused and way easier to take care of.
True so many with this disease are cranky. It affects each person differently For my mom, she didn't have the ability to walk. But we had so many laughs with the things she would say with stories she would make up. Active imagination there were sad moments to.... when she would cry asking if she was crazy 😂I told her ABSOLUTELY NOT she was not crazy & not 7:04 think like that. I would listen to every story she told as though that was the 1st time I heard it. If she told the same story it was fine because I knew one day would come & I'd give ANYTHING to hear her tell me the same story over and over . I do have 11 of her voice-mails on my phone & some videos God Bless Ed Her oldest brother loss his ability to talk. It is a tough disease
Always, your father Ed says 'thank you". What fine manners he has, in spite of his memory challenges. He sets the example for everyone else. Using good manners and respect could help people to solve problems and end wars.....truly!
I come on UA-cam to check if there's a notification of Grandpa Ed. Thank God I found this channel on IG. Big thanks to Dan, Mark, and Danielle for always taking care of our beloved Grandpa ❤
Thanks for being so kind, patient and loving to your father, Dan. If your father didn't have this disease, he'd himself tell you that he couldn't have had a better son in you.
That is a very true statement Most of my friends and my clients do not have that, luckily I have a family that's close five kids and my dad But I think Dan and Ed are just wonderful, great chemistry
My Father passed at 57 ,I was 26 at the time, now I'm 71 , I know it's hard dealing with memory loss but I would do anything to have my Father here,, great video be well,
My dad passed at age 33 when I was 5. I miss him so much though I really don't remember him. The same as you I'd love to have him here to take care of and love.
Reminds me of my dad. Some days I was his son, some days I was his brother and some days I was the guy who took care of him. 9 years I took care of him and would give anything for one more day.
My mom died when I was 12 and my grandparents adopted me and raised me until they passed in 2015, 9 months apart, after 68 years of marriage ❤😢 Whenever I miss them, which is quite often, I come and watch Ed! Thank you Dan and Danielle for sharing your journeys with us! And thank you Mr. Ed!!! I wish you many many more years of good health! ❤❤❤
Grandpa Ed reminds me of my aging father, who I don’t see as often as I’d like. Ironically my dad’s name is Ed as well. They are from the same generation, that’s why I think he reminds me of my dad so much.
Dr Ed has become all our adopted Dad. He's the man. ALL my love from Scotland. I'd hug him If i could. Lost my mam to Alzheimer's, her journey through it was less than a year sadly. ❤
I love how he's always so shocked about having 6kids. His being 91 shock is also very understandable lol. Thank you for sharing such emotional times. It really brings awareness❤
Ed is a kind and loving man and father. He has had a beautiful life with his family and continues to do so even with the change in his life. He was an excellent physician who loved what he did for a living. He is a good man whom I admire. When you talk about his kids he is always concerned that you are all well. Wonderful father! I'm so proud of you all for your patience and loving care of your father in his time of need just as I'm sure he took care of you growing up. Beautiful family. ❤ Danielle is a beautiful, loving and caring spouse and also caretaker of Ed. She has the best sense of humor which I enjoy. I believe Ed and Danielle have a special bond.😊You are all so patient and caring with Ed. I'm so pleased I found you. It has been my pleasure being included in this time in your lives. My love to all of you. God bless you.
I just love you Ed…. You are so caring and so grateful for all you caring son and daughter in law do for you…. Love his reaction to you telling him he had six kids
My heart goes out to you. When my husband's mom did not recognize him because she had Alzheimer's it took a while for her to remember. But she did after he played the piano for she would say Tom. Then everything was okay. 🙏🥰🤗
Bless Dan? That sic bastard keeps putting his poor father on blast on the Internet, calls him Darth Vader when he is confused. What a terrible son Life has a way of paying people back for what they do.
I love it when he learns he is your dad. He seems so happy when he finally knows" I'm your dad" "how many kids" no matter what he hopes there healthy and happy. What a wonderful person always worry about others. God bless him and his family.
He loves his coffee! 🤣🤣. My Mom and I drink coffee like that first thing in the morning…..☕️☕️ Makes me want to go and make a cup right now…I think I will 😊☕️😊
As I care for my 86 year old mom with Alzheimer’s, I have come to realize that though their memory fades, their love never does. Your dad and family are an inspiration to so many❤
Dan, you're doing such a fantastic job with your father, but more so you're helping spread education about dementia & very respectfully so. Thank you for sharing your family with us, I'm sure the choice to do so wasn't easy to make. God bless
I’m crying and I’m smiling in equal measure!!😂🥲. This is one of the most beautiful documentary series to put a human face to a most dreadful disease. Thank you and God bless you all!! ❤️🙏 x.
I wish I could give Ed a big hug!!! He's so lovable. His character and intelligence still comes through. What a lovely man!!! Ed, you've stolen the hearts of many people. Dan , you have a nice voice. Your conversations with your dad is priceless. Hugs and ❤
Its amazing to see Dad smile even knowing hes forgotten things, youd think hed be mad but, always that sly smile. Remind him that you enjoy taking care of him and still having him around.
Dan, Grandpa's only issue is... just not remembering, short term things. He appears very healthy, happy and content, shuffles but as we age we all do that since we are not stable on our feet any longer. But that morning talk to began the day and having to explain where he lives, with whom and where his cash, wallet, RV, home and car have gone is his only true concern. That with making sure everyone is OK. Such a beautiful soul!! The interaction between you and Danielle with him will be something you will be grateful for having someday. Wish I had done this with my dad and his alzheimers and dementia. Would love to be able and see him telling those good stories and even the bad days. Prayers for ALL of you guys as you continue this journey. .
Though the journey may be trying, I can see the love and blessings. A great testimony. Your father is so lovable and you are a great son with lots of patience. Your family is a great example on how to give back the love you've been given. God 🙌🏽
Oh wow Dan.... I see that you need to repeat yourself time after time... It has to be frustrating, but you never get angry.. that is amazing how you can keep it together.
I love the banter between you two. This had to be only one of a few times I watched where Dr. Ed hadn't mentioned his wallet, keys, or his checkbook. 😂😂😂. Have a good day!!! 😊😊😊
You are providing such a great service for your father. What a blessing you are to each other. Also you are providing a good service by helping people understand how dementia affects different people.
You're a strong man Dan... I hate your father momentarily forgets who you are but we all know he can't help it . He loves his family Mr Ed is a great man thanks for sharing this video
Lost my mom when I was 17, my dad when I was 12.... Oh what a blessing it is to have your parents whwn you are an adult... I miss my parents, missed them since day one when they left.
I love the longer videos thank you! And thank you for being so kind to Ed in your conversations. You can truly feel the love you have for him. Not everyone can handle this so gracefully so thank you for your example ❤❤❤
Grandpa seems to be declining a bit cognitively (not physically) unfortunately that’s the path this disease takes… but you guys do a great job keeping him happy and comfortable
Dan you make me smile every morning watching you talking lovingly to your dad. God bless you always and the reat of Salingers. Great family with compassion for each other ❤❤❤

I lost my dad at age 21. Fortunately I had a great father-in-law till I was 55! What the Salingers are doing is so beneficial for so many people!
Sorry for your loss.

It’ll be nice to see Adam. He’s the only son we have not yet seen
Even in his confusion, he’s always so grateful….he has great character….❤Loving Man❤
Same thing I said
Your dad is awesome. It's amazing how casual and friendly his demeanor is despite all the confusion.
And that's _exactly_ why I love Grandpa! His sweet, kind nature! 💚
They're incredibly lucky Ed is this way. Many are not and are very mean and combative. Very hard to take care where Ed is pleasantly confused and way easier to take care of.

He always has a grin on his face asking questions, even at his worst he is better than most.
