The Scariest Overlanding Trip of My Life - Facing Fear
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лип 2024
- This was terrifying. I hope none of you have an experience like this while camping. I've chosen to share the story because I want to help people be prepared should they ever deal with an encounter like this. My intent is not to discourage anyone from enjoying our national forests. Quite the opposite! My hope is that as you explore and make awesome memories you will be equipped to handle any potentially negative situation no matter how rare it may be.

First of all, that situation sounds absolutely terrifying. I can’t believe that happened to you.
Second, this was so well told. Fantastic video, great job. I hope this gets the views it deserves.
Ok so...... stupid freakout moment here.... TSTN just commented on my channel. 🤯😭
I am a a huge fan. Your cinematography and storytelling is second to none! This means a lot that you would watch and comment man. Really appreciate it. 🫠
@@BakerOverland I’m subscribed! Keep up the good work, man! 😎👍🏻
First of all, it's fake, you should of got hit by a rock, I will laugh too , he never had kids, don't believe this peckerwood, 6 months lol really,,? I was abducted by Mackey mousetrap 😅
@@BakerOverlandyou are a great story teller as well I enjoy both of your videos!
This isn’t an Overlanding video. This is something different. It’s universal, emotional, scary, uplifting, and triumphant. This transcends the genre. Incredible.
Will, dude your support means so much. And bringing me under your wing and exposing me to so many other talented creators helped make this video what it is. You are in the credits for a reason.
Amen
Thank you for making this video. Our world is changing, unfortunately not in a good way. You have brought to light what do many of us think about and quite frankly worry about. I enjoyed your triumph over the situation. I know it will never leave you, but at least you have dealt with it.
@venture2Roam what’s it gonna take to get you to come down to Arkansas and camp with us? :)
@@PostFamilyPilgrimage it’s 100% on my list as I have good friends out there. Just need to figure out time and logistics…which are tricky coming from Idaho.
This is ABSOLUTELY the best Overlanding UA-cam video of 2023. There’s still over 4 months in the year, but nothing will come close to this. Absolutely NEXT LEVEL. We’ll done Caleb! Seriously.
You rock man haha. Thanks for sharing it and the kind words. Seriously!
@@BakerOverland just watched this … for the 4th time.
🤣😂❤
@@BakerOverland 100% truth. My wife watched after I told her all about it. She was freaking dying over how good this was.
@@TrailNewbie man that makes me feel really good. I was kind of scared to make this video tbh. In my mind I saw a bunch of people telling me I handled it wrong or that is shouldn’t bother me. Seriously was so insecure putting this together. Almost didn’t release it at all. And then I’m just getting showered with encouragement. Makes me emotional man. Seriously means a lot.
Man this hit me hard. Let me just say man, trauma is subjective to the individual. Just because what traumatized you may not others, or the other way around doesn’t mean it’s not a trauma. I believe you hurt yourself more with that trauma by comparing it to others. Good for you for going back and facing that fear. Absolutely outstanding film. Wow
You hit the nail on the head man. Comparing it to others definitely set me back. I’m learning. Appreciate the encouragement.
@@BakerOverland it’s tough man. Took me 4 years to get more comfortable with my experience with trauma. Stick with it man. Huge respect for taking this step
What a phenomenal piece of story tellers Caleb. The cinematography, the editing, the story, are just incredible. At the beginning I was like what is this wood shop stuff about? What an epic conclusion. This kind of mastery reminds me to work harder. MUCH harder. Bravo
Best overland content of 2023!
Bro your channel is GOALS. Thank you for the encouragement and support.
The Man. The myth. The Storyteller.
I loved how you were able to go back and conquer that horrible experience! Thanks for being open and sharing that nightmare of a story with the world, excellent points and excellent video!
Benji, you are a solid friend. Thanks for the support as always.
You can absolutely describe this experience as traumatic.
I've lived a life of risk and have loved every minute of it. But as I get older and my boy and girl join me in my adventures, nothing is more terrifying than when things start to go sideways, knowing that their safety - physical and emotional - is in my hands and there is no one there to protect them but me and whatever preparations I made beforehand. Making the decision to stay or leave your kids, all to keep them safe, is something that would be difficult for your mind to discard.
Thank you for making this video. It's valuable and important... for you and also us.
Man thank you for this encouraging, helpful response.
When I camp solo (without other rigs in my group) I often bring an AR-15. Imagine them throwing rocks and playing thriller and then getting rocked by sustained, accurate fire. A very scary situation though. They outnumbered you and ambushed you at night. Especially scary given you had little ones with you.
I’ve definitely considered carrying more powerful protection but ultimately I think a pistol is easier. On the fence though. Thanks for commenting. You’re absolutely right, having little ones complicates the situation. I wouldn’t have stayed in the tent as long if I was solo.
@@BakerOverlandglad you made it out OK. So bizarre to be put in this situation but I feel like you handled it very well. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks @@Paintbl99
Thank you for sharing your story and experience. My last overland trip left me with 68% burns unfortunately so our stories may be different, however this one hit home with me personally. The trauma is real and fear is to be conquered! Thank you Caleb and safe travels…
Oh man I hate hearing that. I hope you were able to get your burns treated fast!
Thank you for sharing. Everyone processes traumatic events differently and I'm glad you were able to return and find healing. Being prepared for the unknown, whatever form that may take, is a large part of overlanding. Putting your fear aside to stand between uncertainty and your children is the mark of a strong man and loving father.
That carries a lot of weight coming from you Tony. Thanks man.
Holy cow! What an awful thing to go through and kudos for your strength and resilience to face the trauma and not let it control your life. Not an easy thing to do. Oh, and the storytelling and cinematography are phenomenal! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
That would be a scary feeling being out in the woods with a bunch of people you have no idea what their intentions will be toward you! The way you felt would be how most of us would feel about that same situation! Glad you had a pistol with you for that just in case scenario. You never know now days what you might run into out in the woods. Glad to see you going back and beating this fear! Your editing skills on your videos absolutely rock! They just hit differently and that my brother is a good thing! Take care of yourself and stay safe always!
This really means a lot bro. Thank you for watching and letting me know I'm not alone.
That is a wild experience for sure. Just glad that it didn’t turn out worse! Thanks for sharing and amazing video as always!
Thanks for the help Fletch.
Thank you for sharing. I am Deeply Sorry this happened. I knew I had not seen any posts from you. However I had no idea it was something to this magnitude. Brother I again am Sorry. Praying for peace for you. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you friend!
WOW. Others have already said it, but ill echo it ... this is the best Overland video I've seen on UA-cam in a LONG time. In fact, to call it an 'overland' video is probably an insult to the greatness you achieved with this one.
Thank you for telling your story, and thank you for inspiring me to continue to work on leveling up my storytelling skills.
Amazing job!
So kind! Thank you so much. I’m honored that is resonated.
Ive been terrified in the woods myself, not quite your situation but terrified. Sometimes you just have to go back and face those fears. Good on you.
Appreciate the encouragement
I'm glad you are ok and came thru on telling the story. We take life for granted and never think stuff like that would happen to us. Blessings to you
Thank you for the comment friend.
Absolutely incredible! This needs to be entered into a film festival!! It not only relates to the Overlanding community but in so many other areas of our lives!
Wow. Really appreciate that. I'm so glad it resonated with you.
I too followed you here from V2R and am blown away by this story. I have kids who I took camping regularly and I understand the protective instinct and concern for their safety - over your own.
This video - your story telling, filming, editing, including the frame building, are exceptional and took me through the events with pure concern and admiration.
I will be checking out all of your past and future content now.
Thanks must also go to Will for his assistance in the making and his recommendation to this channel.
I'm going to share these comments with Will. He has been a great source of advice and support. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
I’m late to watching this, but excellent storytelling as always.. I had an experience, not as dramatic and we weren’t alone, with my daughter.. It really bothered all of us how it went down.. It was right before we went to bed and we packed up and headed home! Thanks so much for sharing!
Would love to hear that story sometime. Thanks for the compliment!
Amazing story and finding a way past a traumatic event - so sorry you had to experience something like that. Thanks for sharing.
You’ve been super helpful. Thank you for your encouragement!
I was routed here by Will from V2R. This video is amazing, sir, and you have a new subscriber because of it. Sharing experiences like this lets others know we're not alone. Cheers to you for having the stones to share your story.
V2R is one of my favorite channels. Also fun fact: Will played a big role in helping me make this video and just generally steering my content. He’s a mentor and a good friend. Thanks for checking out my video and commenting and subscribing! Means a lot.
Quite the story, there's some sketchy things in the Ozarks sometimes. Oddly enough our strangest encounter was in a State Park here in Arkansas. We've had people roll up on us numerous times and sometime spend an odd amount of time with their lights just shinning into our camp. It's definitely something to consider especially when you have your family with you. I hope this never happens again to any of us but we all need to be prepared as best we can.
I agree with you. Best to be prepared for both the likely and unlikely. Thank you for watching and commenting. Really means a lot!
Great story and thank you for sharing. If you overland enough something like this will happen to you. I believe you handled the situation as best as possible and I’m sure that you won’t leave the pistol in your truck anymore! Good luck brother!
I definitely won’t leave it again! Thank you for the comment.
Awesome video as always. As a father, I agree whole-heartedly with every feeling you expressed.
Glad it resonated Justin. That’s what I hoped it would do when I decided to tell the story.
outstanding video and thanks for sharing. Such amazing storytelling and so glad you headed back to get some closure.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, I have that trail on my hitlist this fall I will make sure I am carrying when I go .
It’s a beautiful trail. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing. Scary for sure.
Really appreciate you watching and commenting. Means a lot man!
So you spoke about how your TRAUMA seems less then others because we have may gone through something worse.
I would like to touch on that. Your trauma is exactly that: Yours. I am fortunate enough to have made it through a deployment in Afghanistan, and yes it broke me. More then I cared to admit.
However never diminish your pain and always have the fortitude to stand tall through your own trauma especially for your family. Your children have a worthy father in you for doing that.
I have a new kiddo as well, and Overlanding has allowed me to heal from my PTSD from war in a way that I never anticipated and still learning through.
Facing your fears has helped you grow and become a better individual, husband, and father. Keep it up. Thank you for this video, highlighting parts of my overlanding journey through my trauma in a relatable manner 🤙🏻🇺🇸🏔️
First of all, thank you for your service. Second, your words mean a lot. People like you have likely experienced much worse and I don’t want to paint a picture that implies I’m dealing with something of equal pain. That being said, validating the experience has helped me to focus on my own healing. So I hear you. Thank you. Sometimes being given permission to voice what you feel helps you face it. Not sure why but that’s been my experience.
@@BakerOverland Fair everyone deals with it their own way. Just take piece of mind in knowing that "being given permission" may simply be someone saying: "Handle it when your ready and able."
It's still on your own terms, but at the convenience of others basically confirming your not alone. If that makes sense. You essentially feel alone, albeit within the presence of others who may also feel alone, until they are around other like minded individuals.
The darkness of trauma begins to have light shed on it when you confront it, either by a group or individually.
Either way stay strong and keep pushing forward. 🤙🏻🇺🇸🏔️
Thank you Caleb.
Thanks for watching!!
This story telling is beyond amazing. Keep it up
Dude thanks! 🖤
when you hung up that picture i got extreme chills and goosebumps. powerful
Dude thanks fam! 👊🏻
You did an amazing job telling and showing the story. I could feel myself tensing up a little at parts. The feeling you get when something happens with little ones is unlike anything else. This was very relatable. 10/10 on quality for sure!
Thank you so much. Yeah adding kids into the mix adds to the tension for sure. Really appreciate the feedback!
Crazy story. Glad you’re ok. That’s never happened to us on our trips but I always assume that it could. I view pistols and rifles as part of our overlanding kit- just like a shovel, and make it a point to have it in arms reach at all times. You’re on your own out there and I’m sure this video helped someone think about things like this when they may not have before. Cheers.
Right there with you. A pistol is just another piece of “recovery gear”. It can help you get out of a bad situation and ultimately return home. Really appreciate the comment.
Same.... I carry it more out of fear of two legged wildlife than the four legged variety.
I hear you @LoveTribeOverland. Most of the places I go are more likely to have four legged issues but either way, be prepared.
This is an incredible story and you did a fantastic job showing it in this video. It really gives me a realization of the possibilities of traveling. I am usually prepared for most things, but this really reinforced the need for preparedness. Thank you for sharing your story.
So glad this was helpful. 🖤🖤
Thank you for sharing this story. I've been exploring the Ozarks for about 5-6yrs now, go down 3-4 times a year. Haven't had anything like this happen YET but chances are someday it will. I don't carry but have been considering it for awhile, not only for camping but I'm a Realtor and you never know who you'll encounter in vacant homes. This video might just give me the motivation to purchase and carry.
Glad everything worked out for you and your family and I 100% see that you did what was best for your family, no 2nd guessing from here.
I' will say that I've ran into nothing but helpful hospitable locals while in the forest so far.
I love that your experience has been better. And to be fair, 99% of my trips of been nothing but wonderful. I do think it is wise to have a firearm when camping. Primarily for wildlife. But you never know when it will help in other situations. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Fantastic video. This is what I come to UA-cam for. Well thought out and inspiring.
Really glad you appreciate this one. Hope you’ll stick around!
Bringing it all together with building the frame and putting the pic on the wall, great stuff.
Thank you man. Means a bunch that you watched and took time to comment. 🖤
As someone who carries a gun every single day I can't imagine being in this situation. The math on defending yourself doesn't work out, there's too much hope and prayer that *IF* it comes to shooting that they will scatter... there's too much risk at hand for your family... there's... ugh.
Kudo's on sharing the story - amazingly well done video, horrible situation, good job facing your fear!
Thank for this comment. Yeah I knew if they were armed and wanted to fire I didn’t stand a chance. That’s why I walked away from the rig. Really scary experience but now it’s just a memory. I hope this can help someone out there.
@@BakerOverlandmaybe they'll see this and realize that their antics came real close to getting them shot... and not do that sh!t again!
That would be best case scenario really.@@zanthor
This is amazing! A true story about overcoming a deep dark fear. I'm very glad to have seen this video. Thank you
Thanks man. Glad you found it.
@BakerOverland it found me. Sometimes I think we are at the right place at the right time. Your video spoke to me pretty loud. I am on the verge of staring my own channel but have been letting fear delay me. It's hard to step out into the unknown, and that's exactly what you did when you left that tent. It's inspiring
Man that story is terrifying but amazing at the same time. I’m glad you we’re prepared but mindful of what could happen or what you may have to do in that situation. As a combat veteran I have to say excellent job on how you handled the situation then and now. You’re stronger and better bc of it. I hate it happened to you and your kids but I want to say I’m proud of you even though we don’t know each other. Excellent video. This was intense but could be used to help someone else on their adventures of how to be prepared no matter what.
Thank you for this comment man. 🖤🖤
Fantastic video. I’m glad you are all ok. Scary stuff for sure.
I appreciate you saying that.
Incredible storytelling dude. Really thought-provoking and had me on the edge of my seat. Thank you for sharing this to us.
Really appreciate you checking it out man!
Thanks for sharing your story. What an amazing video!!
Means so much. I’m working on some more stuff to share so I hope you’ll stick around!
Absolutely 100 percent need to enter this into the overland film festival.
Thanks! Tbh I didn’t even know that was a thing haha
@@BakerOverland it is! It’s put on by X Overland.
I completely agree! This is film festival worthy!
Wow my mam that was awesome.
Glad you liked it man.
Awesome story. Thank you for sharing. We just had, about 2 months ago, a group, 4-5 individuals, drunk in a camping area with 10-12 other families in dispersed camping around them. They were partying and started shooting in random directions in the camp ground. We contacted AZ state police and 2 sheriff’s offices to come out but no one came. Luckily we were strapped, packed up and left. We are on our own out there. Stay strong.
Yeah man it’s like the wild West out there. You are definitely on your own. I’m glad your story turned out good like mine but that doesn’t mean the fear and baggage doesn’t get carried for a while. Hopefully it’s not bothering you like you did me. Thank you for watching my video and commenting. It means a lot.
It is bothering me at times. I am former leo and delt with that stuff but my heart breaks for those like you who go through things like this. Thank you for reaching out and telling us your story. You’re not alone and Were all proud of your courage.
This was incredible. I want to like it 5000 times.
Everyone's trauma's are personal, no need to compare it to others. This is certainly one of my fears when it comes to overlanding solo. I to carry a weapon and never want to have to point it at anyone. It hurts to think there are folks out there who think this is ok to do to other people too. I mean seriously. WTF?
I thought this was just going to be a scary story told, but seriously the gem of this whole video is talking about how you dealt with it, and came back to face it. Thank you so much for that. I think this is something a lot of people can learn from to face all sorts of fears they fight.
Thanks for the story and the wisdom =)
You nailed it on the head. My hope was that the title would initially make people think the encounter was the fear I faced. But when they watched it I hoped they’d come to realize that it was the return that was in fact the fear to be faced. I wanted to make something about the triumph not just the trauma. Oddly enough, when I was writing the concept I realized that to tell the story I wanted to tell I would actually have to face my fear and go deep into a painful place for me. My drive was to make a good video but I ended up actually healing in the process. You are the only person that has pointed that out in the comments. I’m so glad you noticed. ❤️
Well thats a first…sobbing watching and writing this. As a father whos spirit lives in the wild of Idaho I cry for you, as a man I am full of rage. I could not imagine what you have and are going through. I have been in very dangerous situations in the wild but never with my child. I am so sorry this happened to you. Please remember Its not your fault!!! Don’t carry it with you.
Thank you for this kind-hearted response. I really appreciate you and I don't even know you! Your words are healing. I'm in a much better place today and the support I've been receiving from this video (like your comment) is playing a big part. Thank you.
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Thank you for making this and sharing your story.
That would be a really scary situation. Have you heard of others in your area experiencing that? Sooner or later those guys will end up getting shot if they keep that shit up.
I’ve heard of others having a run in with a group on sxs but nothing as intense as what I experienced.
One of the best yt vids in terms of cinematography that I have seen. You definitely have a lot of talent for filmmaking in your shots and drone work! You should have many more view/subs!
Really appreciate that!
Sir, you earned yourself a new follower. Outstanding work and analogies. Thank you.
Dude, thanks! So glad to have you on board. 🖤🖤
@@BakerOverland the landing of the painting from Joseph-Désiré Court to the traumatic situation was profound. Awesome wood work by the way! Feel free to follow along on my DIY tutorials in español.
that is legit one of my worst fears. whenever I am solo camping I always pick a place that allows me to make a quick getaway if required. I also transitioned from a pickup with a RTT to a 1st gen 4runner so if I need to jump in the drivers seat and leave in a moments notice I can in seconds. I also love going on solo night wheeling trips, but if I ever run across someone camping I immediately leave. the people who did that to you are real scumbags.
Thanks for saying that. Yeah they weren’t exactly friendly lol. Glad this kind of thing is rare.
Hope your kids are ok and were able to sleep through it. I feel like something like this could completely destroy a child's ambition to go camping. Sorry you had to go through that. There are just people out there that are complete animals.
Thanks man. Yeah fortunately they slept through the whole thing. Definitely a blessing.
Thanks for sharing this!!! Definitely seemed like a tense situation for sure, so glad you were able to get back to that spot and have a great experience there!! I thought the building and hanging the picture frame was such a nice touch!!!
This means a lot to me. Thank you for your encouragement!

Means a ton. Thanks friend.
Im typically not a crying type guy... but man.. this isnt about overlanding at all. The love and strength to deal with that is transcendant to genere. Hats off sir. We are expecting our first child very soon and that makes this hit so much closer to home. Thanks for sharing.
Your story telling and videography is second to none also. The way you conveyed the emotion of the situation in this format.. inspirational from a storytelling perspective. Then the story itself just hits home. Top notch.
First off, congratulations on your first child! Kids are such a blessing man. Being a dad is my favorite thing in life. You’re gonna love it. Second, I really appreciate you letting the story speak to you. Not everyone is willing to let go and put yourself in that place. Means a lot.
@@BakerOverland man i am so excited. I look up to guys like you in videography and in fatherhood and man.. you nailed it on both. Would love to just shake your hand some day.
Thanks bro.
Glad you shared the experience and glad you and your kids came out unscathed. Those idiots better be glad they didn’t pick someone who would shoot first and ask questions later. Maybe they’ll see this and realize how stupid it was…
Definitely made me think of how I would handle the situation, and that’s a good thing. We try to be prepared for everything, but hard to prepare for a situation like that- let alone even think you might have to be defensive in such a peaceful place.
It is extremely rare for something like this to happen. In my 3+ years Overlanding this has happened once. But I am glad you have a game plan. That’s the main reason I shared this. Thank for watching!
Astounding!

Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm not a professional or anything, but I would not be surprised if one did diagnose you with PTSD. We have culturally associated it with extreme situation such as combat, but that doesn't delegitimize what you felt was real. Experiencing something your brain interprets as stressful and traumatic (especially as fear for your own children) does things to you and your brain chemistry that you sometimes can't even see for yourself. I think it's amazing how you overcame your own personal trauma and pushed forward and confronted it. I don't know if you have already, but even just talking to a professional about it might help still. Mental healthcare is healthcare. I hope you are doing well.
All that said, this is an astoundingly produced video. I don't know your usual editing, but this looks like it was done by a team of experience professionals by a major network. Well done.
Stay safe out there.
This comment may be the most sincere and caring I've received. I have a tendency to downplay the experience because I know people who have been dealt a much worse hand. That being said, having your feelings validated is powerful and healing. Thank you for doing that. I haven't sought professional help but if I continue to struggle I will.
From a production standpoint - Thank you for noticing our hard work. I did edit this but I had an incredible director of photography and an amazing team of consultants guiding the process. Your comment made my evening friend.
Awsome video! You did an incredible job telling that story! You’ve raised the bar for sure!
Man, thank you. Your feedback helped shape it bro. 👊🏻❤️
Damn that was cool and insightful. Good share 💪🏻
Thanks for checking it out!
absolutely beautiful video as usual, but may be the best yet!

just a tip an unloaded hand gun is what we call a dead mans gun. that split second of loading a gun could be the very second you need. as long as you have a good holster you should be good to do that as long as you unload and clean it every so often. i understand probably why you didnt. im really proud of you for having the awareness to get away from the tent. definitely glad it didnt get worse!
Good advice. I’ve definitely learned from the experience and made some changes. You make good points here.
What an awesome video. The story telling was so good. The filming and editing was incredible. Great work from everyone involved.
Thank you so much. I’m glad it’s being received well.
@@BakerOverland I overland with my children sometimes so I can relate to the added responsibility it brings. I definitely pay closer attention to my surroundings when they are there. I think you handled the situation well. If I’m ever in a similar situation I hope to be as well mannered.
AwesOme video ! 🙏 I’m here in west fork love all the local content ! 🤘
Awesome! Thank you!
I can honestly you’re one of the best story tellers I know, and this was a great video bro. 🤙🏼
Dude! Means a lot. Thank you. Hope the vid was helpful.
New to this channel and haven't watched yet, but I have an endless list going through my head of what could go wrong out in independent desolation for this guy. Oh, my.
I can’t wait for you to watch! Let me know your thoughts.
@@BakerOverland Yea, that would be frightening. I listened to that song so many times when I was a young kid, I wore that part of the cassette tape out, to the point it sounded distorted. I was thinking of how creepy that would be in that context. Probably a bit of PTSD because your kids were there. Easy to write off as a bunch of drunk young guys playing games, but everything is different when you have little ones to protect.
Epic edit and story. Well done. Likely the best overland content I’ll see this year, unless you up this somehow.
Dude thanks! Definitely always trying to produce great content but you never know what is going to resonate. This feedback helps a lot.
Great story as expected, you are a true story teller, thanks for sharing
Thanks brother.
This video is amazing. I love the story and I love the message behind it. 🎉
Thank you for taking your time to watch it and comment. That really means the world to me. ❤️
First off man speaking as a father of two that takes my kids all the time as well I’m so glad you are all ok! Having the kids out there changes everything. Thank you for sharing your experience. You did an incredible job doing so as well!
Keeping our kids safe and thriving is basically the most important thing we can do as parents. Glad it resonated. Really, sincerely appreciate that you took time to watch and comment. Thank you friend.
That's everyone's nightmare!
Sorry for the trauma you've had to live through.
Glad to be on the other side of it. Thank you for checking out the video. 🖤🖤
Thanks for sharing, absolutely awesome filming and editing. I think many of us that live around the cities think we are escaping the "idiots" of society these days and head to woods for solace however this is a strong reminder that we can't let our guard down completely. Unfortunately the world is so different then what we grew up in. Glad to see you conquered this and got back out there.
99% of the time the woods are a positive, refreshing escape. If you go deep enough though, there isn’t much law force which means you’re on your own. Good to be prepared no matter how unlikely. Thanks for commenting and watching! 🖤🖤
Great message Caleb!
Thanks Taylor. Appreciate you bro.
Wow. Just wow. Incredible storytelling. Having had an encounter once myself… it does take hold and fester. Good on you for going back and another excellent video!
Thanks so much dude. Hopefully we get to sit down and hang out one day and I can hear your story.
Can't wait!!
❤️❤️
Wow! What a powerful video. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm so glad you were willing and able to go back and flip the script on your trauma.
It means a lot that you took the time to watch the video and comment. Thank you for the encouraging words!
Oh my goodness. I mostly camp solo with my young son.
I always think about getting stuck, lost, vehicle self recovery, what we’re eating and how we’re staying warm/cool- but I don’t ever think something like this would happen.
If I’m being honest, if this happened to me, I don’t think I’d camp alone ever again.
How traumatizing.
Good on you for returning.
Also that sandwich looked legit delicious!!
It is very rare and uncommon. Keep making memories with your son! Just good to have a plan in the unlikely event that this was to happen. Thanks for watching!
i think we as a people need to redefine trauma. even perceived small trauma to other people can really stick and scare others. we are only human im sure you kiddos being with you you went into fight or flight mode. thats real trauma bro its totally ok and im so proud of you for facing it!!!
Appreciate you saying that. I know a lot of people have dealt with much worse so I just don’t like to exaggerate my experiences. Your comment makes me feel better about opening up though. Thanks dude.
man trauma is such a part of life. sharing it and relieving the stress of it is literally a life saver!@@BakerOverland
Amazing video! I was way more tense than watching any thriller movies I could remember. Very impactful story!
I’m glad I was able to convey some of what I felt. Scary experience but I’ve grown and learned from it. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment! Means a lot.
Finally someone puts a great video out about this subject.Stuff like this gets my anxiety up when I am out camping.Between people with bad intentions and Bears is something that’s always in the back of my mind.Glad you are safe and thanks for a wonderful video 👍
Thanks for saying this @frankizzo2381. I hope this helps more people be prepared.
@@BakerOverland I actually want to plan my next trip to the Ozark’s very soon
Wow! Loved the emotion, honesty and the connection to that fear through your well told story . I too occasionally camp far from help and know I would have to rely on myself to protect my loved ones. Not as easy or comfortable as it sounds. Thank you for this video, you did an AWSOME job relating your feelings and making us all think about the what ifs when out and about but not so much that we stop doing what we love. Sorry there are people out there like that! I haven’t experienced anything as scary as you(yes ur story is scary) i only had light flashing on tent at 4:30 and no people or campers for miles, I have a small idea of what u were feeling. Stay safe my friend and maybe our paths will cross one day, would be happy to camp next to someone as wise and level headed as you.
Man thanks for this comment. Means a lot. Glad you enjoyed the video and it was relatable for you.
Wow.
Best comment so far 😆
Great content! Wow! I cannot imagine what you were going through with your kids there. Especially as it was just you and the kids. I am just getting into this later in life and love watching Tyler’s content and now subscribed to you. My wife is not a camper yet, but hopefully someday. Thanks again and god bless you and your family.
Tyler is amazing. Love his content. Thank you for checking out the video and commenting and subscribing! Seriously that means so much! I’ll try and make some great videos for you.
lol your easy cooking dinner still looked amazing!
😂🤘🏼
This video should be an alarm to everyone. Go train! Be fit enough to protect your family. Learn to use your guns. You have to be better than the next guy!
Agreed
Ditto on the editing very well produced! Keep it up man!
Thank you! Will do. 🖤🖤
This is an incredible piece. Thanks for sharing your experience with others and the courage displayed. Wow! I promise you one thing - I will view this again for sure - multiple times - but, I will not be sharing with my wife and kids. ;) Take care and look forward to following the channel.
Haha I totally get that. This happened two years ago and after this video released my wife told me I hadn't shared all the details. We keep some things that are outliers quiet to protect those we love. Thank you for watching and commenting and I hope this helps you be better prepared for all situations no matter how unlikely.
That would be a scary situation. Glad you are safe. I’ve been in hard and scary situations too. The scariest thing I experienced on trail was a young woman screaming and begging for help. It was bone chilling. Everyone heard it and we searched the area and reported it. Nothing was ever found. Another time while backpacking in Arizona I encountered a man who was completely naked. I was 10+ miles in from the trailhead in a wilderness area. He was so creepy 😂. Last story, I had a guy covered head to toe in blood come into our camp around 4 am. It turns out he was a backpacker who slipped and hit a sharp rock slicing open his leg. After administering first aid he hiked through the night to find help. I think it was adrenaline that kept him going. Anyway, I drove him to the hospital. But at first it was very uncomfortable and strange.
Oh my word! Those stories are wild. Definitely would have creeped me out too. The screaming one is crazy. I wonder if there were any missing people reports near by. Makes you wonder…
