nice car bro!! my brother had a 73 celica hatch back , was a nice car , but it was also rusted out !! they were definitely rust buckets!! you need a shrinker and stretcher , and an English wheel to make your work easier.
Thanks for checking out the video. A couple mouths back I picked up both of those awesome tools! I ended up getting a deep throat shrinker stretcher. The deep throat shrinker stretcher was very handy to get out a high spot after welding in the middle of the fender!
hi. awesome bodywork there, congrats. A question: on minute 1:33 you got two plugs that seems to be made of copper. What is it and what is its name? awesome work.
They are Clecos, I believe originally were developed for holding panels on air planes prior to riveting. These are used to hold panels while fitting them to the car. You can use sheet metal screws but if you have to fit the panel Manny times the sheet metal screws holes in the body panels get bigger and the screws need to be upped in size to continue holding the panel tight. They are very helpful because the hole in the body panel never changes size and you get a consistent fitment. You can get them at Eastwood.com
Hey thanks for checking out my build. I got them from Grant Donaldson. There is a wiring list to get stuff from him but he is the best out there for classic toyota seat skins. are you on 1stgencelica.com or official first gen celica face book group? He is well known in those groups. You contact him through email I just want to respect his privacy and not post his email up on here. Post up on the face book group and I will get you his email address.
1:57 Is the rear fender on a celica just spot welded onto the rest of the car? If not, how did you remove it, just with an angle grinder at an arbitrary point?
Hi Sade, I used a combination of a cut off disc for cutting the back pillar and the centre section of the panel then I drilled out the spot welds. The whole thing is held on using spot welds. There are some hidden spot welds so work it slowly if you want to save it.
When you see how the car started, now it has been looking better thanks to your work, dedication, creativity to make it look 100%,👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I appreciate that!
