  • There is no access door anymore to replace tail / brake light bulbs.
    It's still easy but takes a few more steps.
    -Model shown is the BMW 3 Series from late 2011-2019 (F30).
    -This works for other newer BMW models well. Many MINI Coopers are this way as well.
    The bulb is a standard single filament 12v 21W. You can get at any auto parts store

    To take off the brake lights you need to push down and turn the bulb counter clockwise

    Yes, thank you! I got as far as the two 10mm nuts and only needed to know that I wasn't pulling hard enough to get the tail light assembly out. I'll be able to get that finished tomorrow, yea! Next, low beam, then the dtdl. 👍

    Helpful video. Turn the bulb counter clockwise first to get it out, don’t just pull up straight as there are pins in it’s base that lock into the socket housing. Would be nice to have the part number in here as reference.

      I got my driver’s side repaired and working. $137 CAN in parts, $8 for two new bulbs and less than a hour to install. Am hearing $600-800 for the dealer to do this😱
      I disconnected the battery negative terminal to work on it as well. Do put clean gloves on before touching the bulbs so the oils in your hands don’t lessen the bulb’s life. Eeeezy Peeezy thanks to the videos👍🏻😎

    • @2kidsnosleep
      @2kidsnosleep Рік тому

      @@rjhamilton7397 that was the entire assembly not just the bulb. There is a short out in the unit so needs to be replaced. You need it all not just a bulb.

    Thank you for that great video explanation. I did get the bulbs replaced and the yellow triangle signal + break light malfunction warning message and rapid flashing of left indicator did go away for few minutes but did return when i applied the break. The warning message and flashing goes away and comes back after car is turned off and on and driven for few miles. Does the messaging module needs be reset to remove the warning message permanently and if so, how? Thank you.

      It could be a burnt electrical pin on the connector or the bulb carrier might need to be replaced.

      Hmm. Sometimes the bulb carrier is bad. If you’re not getting voltage to a specific electrical pin you can try a battery reset be leaving the negative battery terminal disconnected for 5 minutes. Sometimes control modules will have a built in circuit protection that needs to be reset.

    • @josemanqueros8145

      I have swapped out the whole thing twice by now lol. Both the socket, wire plugs, and blubs.Both time I get the same conclusion: break light works when I hit the breaks, and the signal light works when I turn left. No problems there, but in the evening when my taillight lamp lights turn on, the left drive side does not turn on. It's been a big headache and kinda embarrassing tbh lol. I'm going to disconnect the battery tomorrow early in the AM and pray that disconnecting the negative terminal works.
