Top Kek It's the "give yourself to a bonfire and perpetuate the Age of Fire like Gwyn and Frampt tricked you into doing" ending in Souls and the "get corrupted by The Radiance after the final boss because you didn't complete the secret ending prerequisites" ending in Hollow Knight. Also the "Hornet dies" ending is more or less allowing Solaire to wear the sunlight maggot. Those are the bad endings, disguised to not look quite like bad endings.
Except the devs actually went on record to say that Zelda II was a bigger influence on Hollow Knight than Dark Souls, lol. From Software doesn't have a monopoly on unforgiving checkpoints and gothic narrative.
Dmitry Shcherbakov Zelda II isn't gothic horror in my opinion. It is unforgiving though. It's the story of Hollow Knight that makes this game very similar to Souls, and the very smooth environment-based way the story is conveyed (rather than Zelda's method of beating one over the head with heavy-handed dialogue). These aren't bad things, this game 100% deserves a positive usage of the term "souls-like."

Best advice I’ve seen for the radiance is to to focus on not taking damage over literally everything. Your lowest priority is to hit the boss. Only heal when your 100% sure you won’t be hit. And hope you don’t get screwed of over by rng. And having fought them I’d say it’s good advice
the mantis lords fight is up there as one of my favorite boss battles in any game. it's so scary at first but once you've got the rhythm you feel fo awesome just jumping and dashing out of their way in quick succession. i love it.

Hollow Knight is the epidemy of what I would want a Souls game to be as a Metroidvania. But the best thing about Hollow Knight is that it is it's own game. When I say that it is a Souls Like, i don't mean it copies Dark Souls to be popular, or for the sake of loving Dark Souls. No, Hollow Knight doesn't try to be Dark Souls. The comparisons lie in the way the world connects and interacts with its lore, in the emphasis on punishing death or boss runs, and in its incredible approach to difficulty(certainly better than DS2). To everyone who hates that people call Hollow Knight a Souls Like, it isn' an insult, or even saying it's a clone(the games play completely differently), it's a compliment and comparison intended to praise the strengths of both games.

Thought I wouldn’t find another hollow knight playthrough that I would enjoy, and then this thing pops in my recommended and i didn’t skip a single minute! Great video! Subbed! I didn't find her on my first playthrough either, handed the controller to my gf on my save in Deepnest and she found her in like 2mins.. I was like WTF?
Things missing: grim troppe, MR. Mushroom ending and all powered up grey prince Zote and white defender. And of course, the alternative things you could do in a different play trough (a.k.a have Zote die and give the nailsmith a happy ending, have cloth not die)

This game has such an intensely beautiful aesthetic I didn't realise could be so close to exactly what I love. Like holy shit. The gothic atmosphere reminds me a lot of Bloodborne and how I didn't realise I was craving for something that looked so beautiful in that way until I saw it And I think this even takes it to the next level I just love it so much

Hollow Knight is the epidemy of what I would want a Souls game to be as a Metroidvania. But the best thing about Hollow Knight is that it is it's own game. When I say that it is a Souls Like, i don't mean it copies Dark Souls to be popular, or for the sake of loving Dark Souls. No, Hollow Knight doesn't try to be Dark Souls. The comparisons lie in the way the world connects and interacts with its lore, in the emphasis on punishing death or boss runs, and in its incredible approach to difficulty(certainly better than DS2). To everyone who hates that people call Hollow Knight a Souls Like, it isn' an insult, or even saying it's a clone(the games play completely differently), it's a compliment and comparison intended to praise the strengths of both games.

Thought I wouldn’t find another hollow knight playthrough that I would enjoy, and then this thing pops in my recommended and i didn’t skip a single minute! Great video! Subbed! (Also since I played it and got that sweet 106% completion I just love seeing other people enjoy and suffer through the game!)
You also have to do the path of pain the white palace, look it up! You will enjoy it....

This is honestly his finest video he's ever made on the channel! It's funny, lots of dedicated editing, and him playing this game really kinda fits his gaming channel. I'm really lookin' forward to him playing Silksong when it comes out.
This game has such an intensely beautiful aesthetic I didn't realise could be so close to exactly what I love. Like holy shit. The gothic atmosphere reminds me a lot of Bloodborne and how I didn't realise I was craving for something that looked so beautiful in that way until I saw it
And I think this even takes it to the next level
