I absolutely love this interview, and I love RTD. He should be a Knight of the Realm! My only criticism (and it is a small one) is that the sound quality isn’t great. I’d like to hear Toby a little more clearly. They are both so knowledgable and articulate. A real treat. I immediately searched out ‘Moths ate my Doctor Who Scarf!’ Thank you.

@@PapaLuge spot on mate. I would include love & monsters and fear her too. The fandom is unfair to that run of episodes because it's become fashionable to hate them.

for those wondering this is a collection of numerous interviews (hence varying quality in audio) that RTD did for Toby Hadokes "Whos Round" podcast for Big Finish. If you enjoyed this go listen to the rest as theres one with Moffat and ones with other writers plus actors and directors from throught the 60 year run

This was such an insightful interview! You got to learn so much about the process of all 4 series of the RTD era. I always wondered about the co-writing process for the last 2 specials. RTD is my absolute hero. Loved you as an interviewer 😊

If you havent already, you should read "The Writer's Tale" by RTD and Benjamin Cook, who wrote for doctor who magazine. It's a 700odd page email correspondence during the produciton of series 4. Vivid descriptions of what it takes to run the empire of Doctor Who, with some interesting insights into Davies' personal life and process. brilliant read!

I don’t have a problem with the human characters in love and monsters, it’s the abzorbaloff. Setting aside the fact that he’s alien fat bastard, it’s like the jet jaguar situation but 33 years later where the kid made a design for a cool/scary monster and the people working on the show or movie said, well a kid submitted this so let’s redesign it to be more for kids. In the abzorbaloff’s case they made him campy and it’s strange to have an episode where a joke is made out of what a child thinks is scary next to an episode where the whole premise is that a child is doing all these scary drawings and they’re becoming real.
