DOCTOR WHO: REVIEWING EVERY EPISODE FROM THE RUSSELL T DAVIES ERA

- This is my Tier list review of the entirety of the Russell T Davies Era of Doctor Who. The Era ran from 2005-2010. I break down every episode from 'Rose' up to 'The End of Time part 2'.
Thanks for watching please feel free to like and Subscribe!
The Davies era is also the first in which Doctor Who finally had a successful spin-off - and not one but two. Torchwood (the name is an anagram for “Doctor Who”) debuted in late 2006, after the extraterrestrial-handling agency was used in the revived Doctor Who‘s second series. The series, which might be loosely considered a more mature version of The X-Files, carried the Doctor Who universe into more explicit content than ever before. Just over two months later, The Sarah Jane Adventures debuted in a special, with a regular series following later in 2007. It took the franchise in the opposite direction, offering kid-friendly fare starring fans’ favorite companion from the Doctor’s history.
MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

K9 responding 'affirmative' to 'bad dog' is one of those moments that makes me almost cry despite the ridiculous context.
Another one is Tracy Ann Oberman's 'I did my duty for Queen and country' as Yvonne Hartman in Doomsday.
@@memoryfoam2285Yeah, it's a shame Big finish retconned her death just so they could have that character serve as a replacement protagonist for their Torchwood range after Captain Jack Harkness got cancelled or whatever.
Your acappella rendition of the Doomsday theme is epic! 🤣Great video!! Had me in tears by the end.
ahah thank you! :D
glorious@@DannyTDW
im losing my shit
It’s even better when you listen to it at 2x speed 😂
Why did it make me just as emotional as the real thing 😂😂
i love river just because i think the idea of following one time traveler, and then having another one show up sometimes and always out of order is such a cool concept.
i loveeeee the girl in the fireplace but my main issue is how it treats rose and mickey. they're essentially redundant in it, and i don't believe that the doctor would ever leave them, especially in the context of everything that happens in school reunion. i think this would have been a perfect episode for a solo doctor trip as one of the specials at the end of season 4 - giving the doctor hope of another companion then ripping it away would have been so so brutal, especially if it came just before waters of mars. or even as a replacement christmas episode post-martha's departure. it feels out if character for the doctor to abandon anyone but especially rose.
damn yeah having it be a solo story around the time after s4 where the doctor is at his worse emotionally would have made this great ep hit even harder
I agree! I really like this episode but the timing always felt off...
The girl in the fireplace has always given me weird vibes because of the romantic tension between the doctor and madame de pompadour after he saw her as a little girl, and I found it to be part of a larger theme of Moffat using the doctor to act out fantasies of his own. I also felt it somewhat cheapened his and Rose’s relationship. I really wish that romance hadn’t been included because I would’ve loved it otherwise.
Yeah, a great episode tho. By itself. If we get to see the thing between Rose and the doctor 🤔 😬 Sarah Jane was right.. 🤔 🤨😏 Gotcha tiger..
Smart pants, Lady Killa 😏😅😬🤣🤣🤣🤣
Like Ricky Mickey said "🤣told you so, the mighty doctor is a bloke like anyone else of us, Men? 😅 🤣"
Weeelll I mixed three episodes up but 😅🤓🙃🥃 it's Saturday
Doctor abandoning Mickey is pretty believable tho
“She’s 19 years old you nonce!” Had me in stitches 🤣
Midnight was my first ever Doctor Who episode and it got me hooked immediately. I never really understood why Season 5+ never really clicked with me like Season 1-4 did. But you put it perfectly in this video. The dialog, the character interactions, the ability to just let things be fun without being complicated, the time to just breathe and allow the characters to just sit around and be friends. My favorite trope in any story will always be a good found family story and I think the RTD era does that so well.
I mostly agree, except "Gridlock". Although the idea of such setting is terrifying and the monsters at the bottom seemed redundant, but I love that episode, everything in it.
I absolutely love Gridlock. It's cheese, it's weird, it's silly, it's scary... it's perfect.
I absolutely love Gridlock. It's cheese, it's weird, it's silly, it's scary... it's perfect.
Yeah, all the different people and families in the different cars really painted a full picture of how people can survive a (seemingly) hopeless situation. Both tragic and hopeful.
It feels very Wall-E with more edge and dimension. I miss that episode, wtf? Not having reruns randomly refresh my recognition of rare rhetoric is so rage worthy, but it's fine, I'll just go stream it meself
The scene with the choir is so damn good, really hits you in the feels imo. And the general setting is really grim, not just the fact everyone is sealed in the highway but the fact everyone’s essentially a drug addict (the emotion drug/patch things) and how all of New New York just died, that shot with like the parliament full of skeletons, such a cool visual
You have to remember when Russell was the lead writer he would have edited all the scripts, steven moffat gets all the credit for those episodes and he might have come up with the great new villain but russells editing elevates them to perfect. I never understood how when Steven was the lead writer his villains didn't hit the same even when writing the ones he created
I get what you’re saying but Russell has repeatedly stated that Moffat was the only writer whose scripts he never had to edit. I really just think Moffat worked better in small dosesz
@jaystev oh cool, I heard from someone who worked in the script department but they could have been lying! In small doses he was a brilliant writer, the stories make sense, same with sherlock. But the later series were such a contrast and I didn't really like it at all. And the loss of character development/realistic families etc that russell does so well. I'm very interested to see what the new series is like and if I enjoy it again like I did s1-4. Even now I'm older I can still rewatch the older ones and enjoy them, and I liked the 60th specials. Fingers crossed for the new series!!
@@SKRIBBLEproductions Amy and Rory have more chemistry with Smith than a lot of Russel's combos like Rose and Tennant, Martha and Tennant. Also loss of development ? Capaldi literally has the biggest arc in new who. And Smith while not having as much, does get humbled a lot in series 6 compared to his extravegentness in S5 which got him in trouble. Tennant also just didn't have that much growth, Eccleston did. In fact, his development was so good it made 10 underwhelming by comparison tbh.
Catherine tates acting in Pompeii showed to everyone she can be a seriously good drama actress
And then she absolutely killed it in Turn Left!! ❤
Tbh, the initial buildup of LINDA in Love and Monsters is actually kinda sweet. It's this whole found family kind of thing, and then it suddenly comes crashing down when the stranger shows up. Obviously, a lot could have been better, but I do think it has an interesting premise.
It needed to be a horror monster not a goofy one. Have the shadow monster that killed Elton’s mum make a return and destroy the group. Have it a lesson about how people who touch the doctor don’t have a happy ending, foreshadowing doomsday
@@bald_lightning I know. My comment was about the initial premise, not how it ended up
Yes. And I also disagree with him on Marc Warren given a god-awful performance.
I like love and monsters
I first watched it dubbed so the bad acting wasn't even that bad and I like the idea that such a silly monster that gets made fun off by the show and the doctor can destroy peoples lives
It is still really cringe tho and the ending is weird
Watching Doomsday was the first time I ever cried from watching an emotional scene on a screen. I was 9 and learned what heartbreak was, and it probably cemented itself as a core memory. It still gets me now. So like, I agree with this rating 😂
The fact that you remember is just as impressive as the writing haha
Doomsday may very well be the moment my empathy kicked in as a kid lol
Your rendition of the Doctor & rose’s theme was unreal 😂
Top tier😂
Just goes to show how impactful that scene from Doomsday was that even with the goofy dub over it I still teared up lol
Russel T Davies so good at having a group of friends just having a normal conversation - so good to watch". The Toymaker ep ending says hi.
EXACTLY!! :D
The Meep, Doctor, and Rose Nobel says hi. 😂
Well, that's alright then!
This is one of the most underrated videos I've ever watched. I really hope it blows up, You deserve it.
Thank you 🥹
You hope it blows up? Who are you, Russell T Davies?
@@HOTD108_ No I'm Michael bay
I agree. Midnight and Blink are perfect. Midnight freaks me out every time even though I know how it ends.
Donna: Monto Bene!
Doctor: No. Don't do that. Don't... don't... Don't.
That performance from David is 10/10. The Doctor being scared is unnerving. Of all the things he has seen, he is usually so intrigued and interested. His interest becoming his nightmare is absolutely chilling.
Midnight is the one time the Doctor doesn't know what is going on and is not in control of the situation. Absolutely terrifying.
My disappointment when I realised that you only recently uploaded this video, and now I have to actually wait for the part 2 and 3, was immense.
10/10 tierlist. Suprised you didn't mention the amazing line: "I would be proud... if you were my dad" to Wilf
Good things come to those who wait :D
Loved this vid but only really disagree with “Gridlock”- sure it’s a 40-something minute traffic jam but the reveal as to _why_ everyone was stuck on the road? The fact that they were all there for _years_ and had literally no hope of getting out, the reveal that there were actually no police or ambulances or support whatsoever, the virus stemming from the mutated mood drug? That shit gets me every damn time.
Also the Lazarus experiment!! Is about the value of life!! And how it is in no way dependent or proportional to how long it is!!
I really like the gridlock end where Martha sits down and finally learns about who he is.
Gridlock is one of my personal favourites haha. I also enjoy lazarus experiment which I know that one is more disliked haha. But it’s always intriguing too hear others views. Martha and Donna got the best episodes in my opinion lol. Massive Donna fan
russel t davies is defo my fave doctor who writer bcs he’s so good at writing people and that’s one of my favourite aspects of the series :) i appreciate moffat’s early work (the empty child is one of my fave episodes ever) but i loved russell t davies style when i was a child watching doctor who for the first time and i still love him now lol :)
The whole sequence in Forrest of the Dead from when Donna enters the park to the scene in her kids room disturbed me so much as a kid that I didn't rewatch it until sometime last year and it still had my heart beating all throughout it. The way it all builds until she rips the veil off (I know the cgi isn't great but child me was very convinced) and reveals the messed up face and then the horror in her reaction when her children disappear. I watched films like Hereditary and Martyrs before I could bring myself to rewatch that episode.
Christopher Eccleston is my favorite doctor of all time. My first Doctor was Jon Pertwee who was great but Eccleston brought me back to the series and he was fantastic :D I see the appeal of Tom Baker and especially Capaldi and Tennant + Smith have a special place in my heart. But Eccleston brought so much nuance to the character and I thought was perfect with only one series! Love this show, I hope they improve the show's writing moving forward though. We want good stories with loveable characters.
You know an episode is good if it makes you cry just by seeing it's screenshots. The end of time pt2 literally BROKE me I cry like a toddler every time. I didn't have DrWHO on TV as a child so I only recently, as an adult decided to watch it and my god I will never forget this series. Even showed midnight and blink to friends who don't watch DW and they still really enyoed it.
I have vivid memories of watching Partner's in Crime while having an Indian takeaway as a very small child. The Adipose terrified me, and for whatever reason the association between watching that episode while having Indian takeaway left me terrified of chicken korma for months. Childhood trauma aside, I love that episode.
Love this, I have this exact same memory with other episodes ahah!
i had this with doomsday and pringles ☠️
I agree Eccleston was fantastic. Too bad what happened.. More shocking was to receive the news when the series just started!
Great video. I pretty much agree with your evaluations and playing this in the background is strangely comforting. Really looking forward to the Moffat review. Thanks for doing this.
That's exactly what I was going for, Thank you! :D
The stuff Moffat actually wrote was great.
the ending of RTD era was one gut punch after another. Episode to episode things seemed to turn out alright, but slowly more and more things just started to go wrong for the doctor and you realize it is a tragedy. In order to clear the way for a new doctor to have new adventures, everyone the doctor knew had to die or move on without him and he could not keep any of them in his life, and then, at the very end, when you think he has said goodbye to everyone and it's okay that 10 wasn't happy because none of the doctors really are, in the end they are just the vehicle for the next doctor, but right before everything turns out alright, right before 11 takes over and makes all of 10's suffering pointless, he says the one line that leaves it lingering, makes it impossible to forget that he has unfinished business and everything is not alright.
I'm pretty sure the way RTD ended things made it hard on Moffat, which is why he mocked the line in "Day of the doctor"
What a funny, and suprisingly heartfelt tier-list! You've reminded me why I loved (and still do) the RTD era of WHO. Subscribed!
haha thank you so much! :D
38:23 oh my god, i never thought that i would laugh seeing this scene, thank you😂
i cant remember how many times I’ve cried watching this finale
I'm not usually a fan of tierlists, but this is tempting me to make one of these myself.
It's not until you see something like this on a tierlist that makes you really WANT to evaluate your opinions :D
Like I wish the Doctor didn't give his clone to Rose (Like just avoided that story arch in general) and the ending for 14, instead of living with Donna, would be 15 giving his gift to 14, which is getting back to Rose to spend his days. I know, I know its been a while and a couple of regenerations since Rose but the Doctor seeing that ol familiar face HAD to bring back some memories and would've been a great finale for 14. The Real Doctor never ending up with Rose really bothered me when I first watched, even if he gave up his clone its just not the same so idk.
This is literally exactly what I was looking for like a month ago and I couldn't find anything like it but this is perfect
the acapela was top tier
Ahaha thank you, I enjoyed making it. Definitely more to come :D
Interesting list! RTD's stuff is a bit soapy and shouty for my tastes, but I can't deny that his energy keeps a lot of people entertained and he was the perfect choice to launch New Who (as was Eccleston).
I think this is the first video of yours I've watched but I just wanted to say I love your narration and formatting its super engaging and great pacing
Thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!
mentioned around 51:00 , in Blink, I think Sally took a lot of notes about her trip to the house and at the end of the episode, she gave her folder to The Doctor. Hence how the doctor knew what would happen.
This was so enjoyable to watch!!! I’d definitely watch your review of moffat’s eras-especially 11’s run!!!
This was amazing and hilarious! Thank you!! Looking forward to the next one 😊
"toppy sloppy chromedome from that paving slab throatgoat" is my "cellar door"
Loved watching this, thanks so much for pulling everything together! Mostly agree with you but we'll have to agree to disagree on the 2nd half of Series 3 - in my opinion the 6 episodes from "Human Nature" to "Last of the Time Lords" were the very best of the RTD era and some of the finest episodes of all time. Best of luck with the channel!
Love your energy and the effort put into editing clips in! Seen far too many DW tier lists where the persons just drones on continuously, but your delivery is super engaging (and your tastes are well reasoned!)
Much appreciated! Thank you
I can already tell this tierlist series is gonna be a BANGER
Brought my to tears, this era of Dr who was my childhood thanks for this video!
I honestly agree with all of your takes!! This show practically raised me, glad to see someone share the nostalgia
Incredible video, made me realise the parallel I had with my matt smith experience, crying every time he goes and insisting I wouldn't enjoy Capaldi cause 'he was just some random old guy' but coming to appreciate his tenure and being able to go back and experience Ecclestone and Tennant for the first time while still having season 5 as my personal favourite of my childhood. Elite singing of the doomsday theme, I need this for all upcoming themes for smith
i just decided to rewatch the whole modern era, so this video came just in time! can't wait for the next parts 💗
Thank you!! 😃
So good to see a vid like this from someone who grew up with doctor who at the same age as me, gen alpha wouldn't understand how beautifully 2000s this all is
Just watching this continuously on repeat now … absolutely love it, but please fast forward the next one!!!
Loved this, cannot wait for your tier lists of the next eras!
Coming Soon! :D
Great video, it's always nice when UA-cam throws a smaller video onto my home page that is actually good quality.
Ahh thank you! That means a lot
Great video! Can't wait for Moffat era tier list!
Fun little detail: In the end of time pt2, it’s ‘The Doctor’s Mother’ that gives him the idea to shoot the White point Star. The close up of her just before he tells the Master to get out of the way, her eyes shift from the Doctor/Master/Rassilon stand-off and go to the link
I go with the time lord reproduce by genetic looms, and choose to think that woman was Romana
Clicked just to see where would be my favourite episode of the whole series (midnight). Good job.
Appreciate the effort put into this. You are a funny man. Great video. Subbed
That means alot! Thank you! :D
This is the most entertaining ranking video I’ve EVER seen. I love it.
Wow thank you very much aha much appreciated 😄
This is one of the best videos I have seen on UA-cam - super underrated and I hope it does really well!
Aw thank you very much!! 😊
Brilliant video, your channel deserves to blow up off the back of it (and it must be, since the algorithm showed it to me out of nowhere today).
I'm a bit older than you I think, so this wasn't a childhood thing for me, but I do have very fond memories of watching the Tennant era during high school. There was always something so genuine and heart-on-sleeve about RTD's Doctor Who. Sometimes it was a bit goofy, sometimes very goofy indeed, but that was always part of the charm. I did enjoy the early Moffat/Matt Smith years as well but as the story arcs got increasingly complex and self-satisfied, the charm diminished, so this will always be "my Who" and I find myself agreeing with so much of what you say in this video. Well done!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy UA-cam are pushing it due to how long it took for me to make! Appreciate the feedback! Working on the next part now! :D
36:46 i need you to cover all of the best music from doctor who, this was incredible! Effort like that really takes what could of been a good tier list video into a OH GOD YES tier video
hahaha Thank you so much! Love this thank you for the feedback! :D
This is the funniest thing ever, I actually watched the whole thing through. You should do one for the Moffat era
I'm Working on it now! :D
Chris Ecceleston was such an amazing Doctor. Wish we had more of him.
Love this video man! Looking forward to the next one :)
"Tell me your name" "pedophile" that killed me lmao.
Great video dude! You hit so many nails on their heads in this,RTD cheese just hits different and he was able to pull it off in ways no one else really could,if you haven't read it already i highly recommend "the writer's tale" book, gives some great insight into his "Who" era
it's on my wishlist, i do plan on buying it! :D
Loved this, we agreed on quite a lot of things.
I just noticed you posted this three days ago, I hope you'll make a video on the rest of the seasons.
Working on the Steven Moffat Era video now! :D
Nice video. Made me laugh and subscribed. I look forward to your tier list of the moffat era.
Thank you! :D Making it right now! :D
I would personally have Dalek and Empty Child/Doctor Dances in the top tier ... Those 3 episodes were when everybody sat up and took notice of Nu Who.
They proved that the show was capable of genuine greatness, and we all became incredibly excited about the possibilities moving forward ...
They were the foundations that RTD built upon for his entire first run.
Great video mate, really entertaining recap of it all
Thank you! really appreciate that!
this video is banging watched the entire thing and your review is brilliant feel like you embody n voice the audience so well. funny geezer as well 😂. earned a sub keep doing this!!
Thank you! Much appreciated! 😃
I watch DW tier lists to chill out. Yours is great fun! Looking forward to the next.
Thank you for this video so much. This show is so unimaginably important to me and seeing this beautiful tier list really made me day. Only things I disagreed without I think were gridlock, and fotd/sitl. I think they are both very good. And also I would put turn left in perfect. There is honestly no flaws without, and if it weren't for blink it'd hands down be the best doctor lite episode, like u said the scene of wilf talking about the war is heart WRENCHING
I think the only reason I didn't put it in perfect is because it's not one I would actively think to go back and watch but i do agree it is a perfect Doctor lite episode
Which is fotd?

ahaha thank you! working on the Steven Moffat Era now! :D
Loved your video, you had me cracking up throughout so you've got a new subscriber here and I can't wait to see your thoughts on the Moffat era. Literally the only episode that I strongly disagree with is Gridlock. I think it's such a beautifully underrated episode and is so charming.
I'm looking forward to watching the anniversary specials so much!!! I've been saving them until after my classes end (Dec 17th) ❤ I remember 2005, being 8 years old and my dad excitedly sitting me down in front of the TV and telling me about how he used to watch Doctor Who as a kid 💙 we watched the original airing of the episode Rose together and I fell in love with it over the years 🌹 I haven't kept up with it in a while and my Dad wasn't as into it as I was after a little bit 💔 the 9th Doctor still holds a special place in my heart
geat video man really simple editing but still a fun watch.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Aliens of London on par with Dalek and The Empty Child is wild.
I'm only about 4 minutes in so far but i have to say i love your sense of humour and i already know the rest of this video will slap.
I hope it fulfils your expectations :D
@@DannyTDW It was, genuinely hilarious the bit with the Pyrovile's name made me nearly choke 😆
Ah a new doctor who channel to add to my collection! Brilliant vid
Love that! Thank you! :D
Gridlock i thought was amazing. Very funny reviewing. Great video
Glad I’m not the only one who had this idea. Minus the tier list part.
I can't believe I cried again, during your funny rendition of the doomsday theme that episode always gets me.
I love this! I was also absolutely mortified by the Slitheen and the Midnight thing
Somehow I never put together the music when the Master turbo charges the tardis lol, fantastic video!!
Earnt a new subscriber here, great video and absolutely agree with it all. Spot on 👏🏼
i would honestly put gridlock in the okay category it had its funny moments but the doctor talking about gallifrey makes it a tier higher for me because of how beautiful that scene was. Your list was awesome tho u got entertaining commentary.
That is the true highlight of that episode, thank you for the feedback :)
I think Gridlock is great satirical Science-Fiction. But to each their own I guess.
I really like Love and Monsters. It feels real to how I’d be if I’d met the doctor and wanted to find him again. The main plot is just alright but the way the depict fans of the doctor feels very real
One of my fave deffo really understated
i love the bit where the dalek says 'brethrin' and you fall in to london road slang
its very rare i laugh out loud when watching anything but this got me
What a video mate. Really took me back to when I was a kid loving all of these (which I still do) and I agreed with most if not all of the rankings! Also convinced me to re-watch again... not love and monsters though...
Glad you enjoyed!! 😃
Many people were on board for the Rose/Ten romance? The third season is not as good as people think? River Song’s story is annoying? Midnight is the best episode of NuWho? The Doctor’s tantrum was justified? The End of Time is perfection? “Golden Era” of NuWho?…Yes! Yes! All of the yes. HELL, yes! Yes, it was! YES! and YAAAAAAASSSSSSSS?!! I say all these things and everyone says I’m wrong. I’ve never agreed so hard with another Who fan in my life!! God bless ya”!😊
Glad you enjoyed hahah! :D Thank you!
The moment when they’re all flying the Earth back makes me absolutely sob, even more than Donna having her mind wiped. The music, the shots of them all working together, the fact you know it’s the last moment of them all being happy together. It genuinely breaks me
Agreed!!! 🥲
Great vid!
DTDW needs a down bad compilation asap 😅
I’ve seen every episode of this era like 20 times but I’ve only been able to bear watching the end of time episodes maybe twice. Like it’s genuine heartbreak. I was fully crying just from watching the clips in this video.
This was so entertaining oh my god, it was like me watching the entire series all over again
haha appreciate the feedback! :D
It makes me wanna watch from 2005 again for the christmas doctor who!
Cheers for this mate! Subbed.
Thank You! :D
I’m only up to the Aliens in London part, and I had to pause to comment that I think Annette Badland (Margaret) is one of the greatest character actresses the UK has ever produced.
I met her at a small indie press awards ceremony in 2015 (she was there to support a friend who was nominated). When I recognised her, her friend said “you must be an Eastenders fan!” I said I hadn’t watched Eastenders in years, and before I could say what show I knew her from, Annette interrupted me and said “can I guess? I bet you’re going to say Happy Families!” And she was right! I knew her from loads of shows and films, but Happy Families stuck in my head the most. It was a show on CBBC in the early 90s and was based on a series of books. She played various characters, but I always remembered her as Mrs Wobble the Waitress.
She told me that no matter how many different roles she plays (and she’s played hundreds!), millennials will always either remember her from Happy Families or Doctor Who, even though she was only in a couple of episodes, and that she loves that she was a part of so many people’s childhoods.
Edited to add I just saw Mickey’s grandma and that reminded me that Mona Hammond is one of my other all-time favourite British character actresses.
I love that story! I will always remember her from Doctor Who! :D
@@DannyTDWWhen I saw her in Doctor Who, I got excited because I recognised her from so many other shows. She was one of those actresses who you’d see pop up on pretty much everything but nobody seemed to know her name, we all just knew her face. I was lucky that everyone was wearing name tags at the event I met her at 😂.
She was very sweet. We chatted for a while. It turned out we’re both from Birmingham so she asked where I lived and she told me about where she grew up and how much things had changed the last time she visited. She was so lovely and fascinating to talk to. I got a really nice photo with her too.
Actually a really good video mate nice one 👍🏼
Thank you!!! 😄
this was so funny! like i was cracking up at almost every line
I can't express how happy I am that this video popped up in my recommended! I don't leave many comments, but this is one of the best DW breakdowns I've seen! I have such a soft spot for the 9th doctor and the RTD era! Ugh not only the nostalgia but the writing was just sooo good! We don't get moments like that any more! It was crazy watching this video and have my every opinion echoed lmao I'm still shook! Subscribing for more ~~
Love this!!! Thank you aha! :D
I cackled when you turned the Dalek emperor into a roadman
