Confidence is not something that we all have, confidence comes from having more experience... the more you practice the better you’ll get, it won’t happen faster than you think but it takes time
As an educator I have seen many students forced into social situations (cafeteria, group work, gym, recess) and merely being in social situations does not always lead to greater comfort. Often, the discomfort of these students lasts for years. Being in group therapy where it is more of a facilitated environment is very helpful. Role play and social skills training also helps. Being in social situations is absolutely essential, but just being in social situations without learning social skills and getting feedback from people will not always lead to change. Also, mindset is important. If you have a lot of negative self-talk you can sabotage your attempts to socialize. Learning to speak positively and realistically to yourself in essential. Finally, not everyone is made for each other. Find a group of people that are more accepting and comfortable to be around and have similar interests of sense of humor. And listen to the song "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World. It'll make you feel better about yourself!
School is a breeding ground for low self esteem and social ineptness. In away I think it's purposely designed that way so we won't be equally successful.

I don't see teachers actively attempting to create low self-esteem but there are certainly opportunities for it to occur and is feeling stupid and inept. It may be a by-product of the competitive nature of grades, who has the highest GPA, good work being posted on bulletin boards, etc.

However, when you force a large group young people with different family backgrounds and brain functions to interact together in a competitive setting you are a creating problem. And to not provide your teachers with trainings and tools to handle it is pretty intentional, not the teachers, but the school is.
On another note, you don’t always have to be social but when you’re not in the social mood still keep a positive mindset. Don’t have it in your mind that you’re not gonna talk to anyone. Just keep a positive and open mindset and just speak when spoken to.
This helped so much! My social anxiety is on edge at work because I was sexually harassed and then me coming out to HR got 2 people fired. I feel like this will give me the boost to face everyone like nothing's happened

I've tried to meet people and I've become so many different people but no matter what people just don't like me from meeting me. I've tried many of these things and none of it helped. Being social opens you to all manner of physical, mental, and emotional attack. If you socially isolate yourself, it is near impossible to ever be mentally and emotionally attacked. It also greatly reduces the odds of being physically attacked. Life is much safer, simpler, liberating, and affordable, if you socially isolate yourself. I have lived with no friends, no girlfriend, nor aquaintences, since 8 August 2000 at 18:34 Central time. I have not just lived socially isolated since that day. I have done so successfully.
It sucks because whenever I’m trying to be normal around people I get rlly nervous and the people around me can tell. I would do things like not make eye contact, frequently thinking about what my next position will be..I also get nervous when I walk around people or eat around people because I feel like I look weird when I do it and it’s starting to happen around people I have known my whole life (family members). I hope to grow out of this. I hate it.
Im very well mannered, I am considerate of peoples needs and Im upbeat and positive when talking to people (always smiling). I am still not able to get anyone to talk to me, let alone be friends with me. But yes, inside Im anxious and nervous.

im an overthinker. always have been. i do a lot of customer service work and im very talkative. i go into people homes and set up their beds. its just weird how some people rub me the wrong way and i get nervous and blushy. this is my worst flaw i feel. i wish i could fix it but it seems to never leave. i think hes right though. i just need to condition myself. i need more people in my life. it sucks i run to alcohol all the time to loosen me up because it works so well for me but its also bad for me health wise. im kicking this habit though. i just needed answers.
I cant express how much of a hell school is for me. Im tense 24/7 and randomly twitch because of it, everytime i try to calm down it gets worse and i feel very drained every single day. It doesnt help on how i have no friends to talk w in any classes as well and i cant make a basic human connection/interaction too. Also, we have to remember that it’s okay to feel nervous! It’s REALLY normal. Because it’s just emotions. A lot of people assume the worst if they get embarrassed. So remember to stay confident and practice makes perfect! (Also remember it’s not the end of the world if you’re nervous!)

I’m overweight and love history and cars it seems like whenever I talk about something I like for example a civil bullet or a arrowhead they just give me a bad look and walk a way then other people wil come up to me and say for example you keep old junk and laugh referring to my old civil war bullet that’s over 160 years old it makes my head go light and makes me fidgety I’m 14 and 190 pound they body shame me all the time!
