  • Hi friends today I am going to show how to make 48v battery pack from scrap laptop battery.
Here I collect li-ion batteries from scrap laptop battery pack some cells in the batteries are dead but almost of them are good cells inside.
Before use It is better to test the current of the cells by a balance charger,
You can get 13S BMS Here : amzn.to/2MqNjQJ

    Thank you for watching .

  • @katiekumcgil
    @katiekumcgil 22 дні тому

and guys from a battery designer and builder here, soldering a lithium cell is quite ok ,as long as your soldering skills are professional level ,and have the right tools ,dremal to use mini wire wheel, and have killed spirit flux and an etch flux and correct cleaners ,and a magnetic heat sink that we put straight onto the soldered joint to instanly strip the heat out

    • @katiekumcgil
      @katiekumcgil 22 дні тому

we also use high wattage soldering irons usually 100 watt ,they allow you to get the solder down and take much much faster than a lower wattage iron ,with the lower wattage you have to heat the cell longer to build the heat up

How do you know the cells discharge rate ? Or are you basing all the parallel cells at a lower discharge rate, the purple ones can discharge at a max of 10A while the others may only be 5A or lower, if that's the case the purple cells will force the others to discharge at a higher rate creating heat and eventually cell failure

WRONG! They will all pull proportional to every other cell in parallel group.. that would only be the case if the was a 4-6 p battery with low amp laptop cells and say something like a 25r 20 plus amp cell... Otherwise equal distribution and will pull exactly equally

A good lesson at the end there for computer overclockers of how to test stability of your system Give your pc a real world test such as games you play maxed out - don't give it artificial benchmark tests overnight to see how it does. That's like testing a boxers chin with a hammer - not real life. Thanks for the video, enjoyable.

don't, this is extremely dangerous especially with the pack size.
if you want to make a large high capacity pack, especially one for an ebike where its liable to get scuffed up a bit in normal use. use cells with the same specifications. this person has no isolation on his terminals, wires crossed over each other over and over creating stress points, his controller is utterly inadequate, and his soldering of everything onto the cells is a catastrophic mistake.
18650 cells have a high capacity, and with that many you're playing with fire. the heat from soldering nickel (if he didn't cheap out and use plated steel) onto them could easily damage the cells and turn your pack into a firebomb waiting to happen
don't fuck around with electricity, if you want big power you better put big safety measures in place

And there is you're batterypack that will turn your house in a sweet sweet fireball.
No isolation on positive terminals, cheap bms, squishing wires everywhere. I lost it after you smashed the pack with the steel hammer.
I don't mean to be all negative, but this video had too many fatal mistakes, on such a dangerous thing as lipos.
If you want to make a batterypack, don't do its like shown in this video, it wont end well. Especially if the pack isn't stationary. If it shorts anywhere, it will burn big.

Series voltage is how much electrical "shove" can occur. Stacking in series increases voltage.
Stacking them in parallel, adds to the amperage. So the voltage stays the same, but the length of time something can be run increases.
Think of a AA battery. 1.5v. 500ma Only lasts so long... but if you could put one next to it in parallel, it would still be 1.5v but with 1000ma capacity.
If you put them in series, you get 3v, but still only 500ma.
Understand? By stacking the batteries in specific patterns, one obtains 48v (54volts OCV) then has multiple 48v packs paralleled together to get the desired amperage/hour rating.

12 wide, by 14 long, by 2 stacks high means there are 336 cells there.
@ 3.7v per cell (presumed) if one connected all these batteries in series you'd get 1243.2volts but with "only" 0.8amps. Please bear in mind, that little bit of amperage at that level of voltage will very likely kill or severely injure you. Lose a finger easily.
But if you lower the voltage from that 1243volts , thus increasing the amerage... one gets a battery that is useable for their needs.
      622v for 1.6amps
      311v for 3.2amps
      160v for 6.4amps
      80v for 12.8amps
      48v for roughly 25 amp/hours.
(Means you could draw 25amps continuously, for one hour, before "low voltage" occurs)
Edit: All these are ballpark figures based on 800ma batteries. Ive come to learn that 18650 cells typically run 1600ma and larger. So change the math accordingly.

If a DC motor is rated at 9 Amp, I hook it up to a battery pack rated at 20 Amp, will the battery pack burn the DC motor eventually? Or will the DC motor only draw 9 Amp though the battery pack is rated at 20 Amp?

A 20Ah battery is just the capacity, which is what the battery can supply. The load(DC motor) will just draw 9Amps. Assuming it draws 9 amps continuously, you can run that motor for 2.2 hours on that battery. The battery won’t dump 20amps on the motor. Extreme Over voltage of the DC motor will destroy it.

@@jrebuilds Understood. Motor will adapter to amp. Over Voltage will destroyed motor. Thank you sir!

Gee, you wrap up lithium batteries like that they're liable to explode. Just saying. Good luck on the road!
