    Great info thanks
Would the dealership keep a 01 e38 on hand? I've heard the dealership can run more like $300 ...?

Some cars won't let you lock the doors with the chip close to ignition I believe

Something is not right. Dealers and mfg are not going to allow purchase for$150 for a chipped working key when normal is over $400. What are the other charges not mentioned, like programming etc?

But taping a chip to the antenna isn’t bypassing shiz. Bypassing means to step around eliminating the need for it I.e. running jump wire from A skipping X and going straight to B, therefore when you find yourself losing keys you don’t have a chip to tape to the car now do ya? Ok so I need to bypass the transponder to get car to start. This is just giving it what it want permanently when you have it. Ok don’t have it. Now what, how do you ACTUALLY BYPASS thus step around the transponder to start the car?

Thanks for the video but those of us who own a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire made by Mercedes like the SLK 320 .We are in big trouble, Neither does Chrysler or Mercedes support this model any longer . I had bought a Chinese replacement key fob case which popped apart when it fell on the road at night and the transponder fell out never to be found I looked for it a week ,now I only have one key. And trying to get replacement parts for for this car like the SKREEM well it is impossible and makes you want to scream !!! I wish someone would create a bypass for such a complicated system on such an old car. Many of us who own these cars are having to trash our cars because there are no support for our cars and when you could get parts they were more than the car is worth .You can buy cheap mechanical parts but no electrical parts are available such as the remote keys or the SKREEM . it is so fustrating . There is a market because these cars were sold all over the world by Mercedes but no one has any interest in taking on anything aftermarket even a thing like a headlight or body panel or tailight. this car will be in the junk yard soon with no support. because no one can or willing to keep it alive . thanks

On my OBD I e36, simply removing the chip from the key and taping it to the antenna (the black plastic trim ring surrounding the ignition lock cylinder) was not good enough. The car would start and stop fine with a “chipless” cut key; however, with the chip being taped to the antenna ring all the time, the EWS computer was always detecting the chip, so whenever you turned off the car and removed the key, get out of the car, and try to lock the doors, the car assumed that since the chip was still being detected, that the key was still in the ignition and that you were attempting to lock yourself out of the car. Whenever you tried to lock the doors (either with the key, with the door remote, or by leaving the window down and pushing the lock button down) with the key removed from the ignition, the power locks would take over and immediately unlock the doors. The solution I came up with was to get a second antenna ring from another e36 at the junkyard and wire it in circuit with the original antenna, but with one of the two wires passing through a 5 pin relay. The power to the relay was tapped from the ignition so that the relay only engaged the second antenna when the ignition switch was turned to the 2/3 position (ACC, start, and run) where the dash had power. You then tape the chip to your second antenna and hide it and the relay under the dash, behind the steering column area. By doing this, your “tricking” the anti-theft (EWS) computer into “thinking” that the key chip is no longer present whenever the dashboard loses power from the ignition switch. When the relay is powered, it introduces the signal of the second antenna into the circuit between the original antenna and the EWS computer. The EWS doesn’t know there has been a second antenna wired into the circuit; all it known is that when the ignition switch is turned to the first position, the chip is detected and all is good to start. When the ignition is switched off and the key removed, all the EWS knows is that the chip is no longer being detected and everything is normal to shut down the car for you to exit. So, yes just taping the chip to the ignition switch would have worked, but not being able to secure the interior of the car was not acceptable for me and I was also afraid that someday the chip would fall off the switch and get lost, which would not only leave me stranded, but force me to the dealership to order a replacement key and defeating any saving money. I found detailed instructions online that were meant for installing a remote starter (try googling it). Since the same basic principles apply, it was the perfect fix. As I remember it, you will need to play around with the position on the ring where you tape or glue the chip; it would not work just anywhere. I did this to my car almost two years ago (when I bought the car, it came with only one badly worn key) and has not given any trouble since. Also since doing this, I have also heard that there is a single wire behind the glove box that can be cut and will disable the EWS and shut off the anti-theft completely but since I have had 0 issues with it, I never looked into it any further.

@@brianandrews7099 Obd1 e36 does not have a key chip, they started in late 1995 with the key chip and ews, you can use a red label ecu to delete the chip, or get a ecu chip that is flashed to delete the key chip all together

Still not enough. Why doesn't anyone quickly explain that it depends on the car. There are a number of ways to get it done depending on the individual car, number of keys and price while staying away from the dealer for the ultimate pay out.

you have to find the wire that is hot when the key is in and use a relay that the ring will be off when the key is out.
