"Smooth sailing" exists only for others, never for ourselves. $70 nut, eh? Sounds like a bargain . . . for H-D, not for you! Alas, the joys of working on older motorcycles, AKA "a significant amount of messing around." You nailed it for sure, Angel! This was hilarious!
😂😂😂 Angel you are my soul sister working in the shop. I always have these stupid gremlin problems too. Murphys Law is right there waiting to pounce on my mechanical skills. Thanks for sharing your struggles. I don't feel like it's just me anymore.
Hey Angel. Love your vids, as always. Forgive me here, if I'm outta line, and I'm sure you'll correct me if I missed something, or incorrect. It has been many years since I worked on a 4speed Shovel but here goes: Should there not be a locking tab on the main drive sprocket? Any time I loosened an inner primary, I would, as a matter of course loosen the 4 engine mounting bolts, and the tranny off the adjuster plate before tightening the inner primary evenly to both engine & tranny. Then tighten both engine & tranny back down evenly to the frame. This prevented potential of inner primary case cracking. I also checked the mounting surface for any shimming required between the engine mount surface to the frame for any required shimming, so as to keep everything nice and straight, and remove potential for any stress cracks. Another simple trick to reduce potential for future oil leaks, was to simply double-up on the Quatro seal. Some of this may make sense, or you may think I'm just an opinionated old crank, but my Shovels ran real well, AND THEY DIDN'T LEAK😊 I'll mail you one if these days & fill you in on my '99 Dyna Wide Glide.... I got me another Harley🎉😮
I can not work on anything when I'm as tired as you was. When I do there is a lot of swearing and broken items. I know now when I have to walk away. It took years to learn that though. I like the shifter knob on the bike. I have a door knob exactly like that. God Bless and Stay Safe Angel
Thanks!! And, was gonna ask you to email me your address so I can send you a couple new stickers. They are a little different but better than the last ones I sent you.
Loved the video and you never disappoint when working on your stable of bikes! I'm dealing with replacing the stator and regulator on my 92 Fatboy. It's always something going on with our old Harley's. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the USA and I'm so thankful for my old bike even if it is a pain in the rear sometimes lol! Stay busy wrenching in your garage and stay safe as you go for a morning coffee!:) Peace
Good morning 🌅 Angel, well 😂, is it or did you forget about something else 😂, we are all watching 👀 you, , not sure if you replaced the seal 🦭 😂, on the inner shaft that goes through the drive shaft sprocket ⚙️ shaft, I think it’s a copper 👮 😂seal with a rubber seal 🦭 😂 in side of it, it could be different, I remember on mine were the two shaft go through each other, good luck, I had my Op on my left hand, for CTS , last week, I have been told that it could take up to two/three months before I am able to get my strength back in my hand, at least now I am sleeping a lot better, first time in nearly a year, Keep up the great work, stay safe, ride free, 💔 from France,
Seriously Angel, I'd buy a shop book from you n your dad that has all your special tools n stuff, how to make and application, like that custom Joe Weider installation tool 😎👍🤣
"Put a Cork in it, Red!!" But to do that, be sure to visit your local Stihl or Husqvarna dealer to buy a tree-felling wedge, to jam the aluminum rod into the cogs to lock 'er up!! That was unexpected, and BRILLIANT! A Blonde would have NEVER thought of that!! Long live Red Power!! :)
7:39 Really like the special tool design on clutch stud lock tool with a handle/lever & 3:52 the chain sprocket lock tool... > 2:06 Is that orange plastic wedge the rare & super expensive HD special tool part number ____ ??? ...🤣😁
@@RedRiderCanadaBC You probably already know this on cork seals (works well on cork seals/"washers" for pushrod tubes) = install with a coat of oil or soak in oil vs installing dry causing cork to expand once saturated (+ good for shop wisecracks on "soaking the cork"😁) Wisecracks aside.. it does work = old style cork seals usually leak or weep when they dry out. Some applications gasket sealers & goops, etc. defeat the purpose & absorption properties of cork seals.>> Thinking on that right side transmission / kicker cover...Don't recall any oil level overflow hole on Big Twin 4 spd other than bottom edge of threads in fill hole & vent. IIRC > Ironhead wet clutch XL ,XLH,XLCH of that era has fill level hole for primary.
Hi Angel, really annoying wrecking a $70 part when you haven't really done anything wrong apart from following incorrect information. Take consolation in the fact that it would have cost a bell of a lot more to have it done for you. I watched your livestream the other evening and discovered that you prefer Angel to Red so I'll use that from now on but as one of our better known writers once put it "A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet" Keep up the great work Angel, Bye
She said that's fine if you're not here for me, only for Harley's, that's fine. 😢 Well I just like to say Red, I'm not here for the Harley's, because I'm a Suzuki man. I'm here because you have a beautiful personality. Sweetie ❤❤❤😊
Red, i think you are correct. I've run into kicker covers like that. But, I think it was generator shovel , 67, 68,69?? It's been a long time since I've messed with them.
70 bucks- it made my blood pressure jump. But don't worry, it's better to let it be a nut than the shaft itself. Это вечное противостояние ума и силы- мозги говорят "Хватит" Сомнения говорят: "Давай ещё, иначе открутится от вибраций!" А потом БУУМ и Конец света, сам виноват! 😂😬
What could be better than a fresh baguette cut lengthwise, "Suluguni" or "Russian" cheese, or melted "Maasdam" cheese, thinly sliced sausage and a ring of tomatoes.. Perfect!😌🤯
Are you working on a 4 speed or 5 speed? I have an early 1984 5 speed and it did not have a cork seal in it. So I'm wondering, am I missing something? My 5 speed leaks a lot.
You might be missing something, but I'd check the manual on that. I think one of my manuals mentioned it and another one didn't so thats why I left mine out. But my tranny was leaking out ALL the fluid after being run for a few minutes.
Luckily you didn't strip out the threads on the main drive gear... that would have been a real heart breaker. Usually when I torque the sprocket nut I only go to 60ft lbs. as the tab washer should keep the nut from backing off. Haven't had one loosen up yet, and I do get on it hard sometimes.
I don't think we've ever even seen anyone ride that bike or even start for that matter. It's always just sitting somewhere. Damn lucky it was the nut that got stripped and not the shaft.

Yea thank God i didn’t strip the gear. I would have cried lol.
WHO TAUGHT YOU TO WORK ON HARLEYS AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON MOTORCYCLES?
My dad has taught me a bunch and a bunch of it I have learned by reading. Been working on my Harleys for 8 years or so.
I don't think we've ever even seen anyone ride that bike or even start for that matter. It's always just sitting somewhere. Damn lucky it was the nut that got stripped and not the shaft.
Lol its been started a few times. And not ridden yet because of issues like the one I am fixing in this video
That thumbnail title sounds like a horror film 👀

Sucks when you have to do your own comebacks eh 😅❤️
Yep lol
I don't like a torque spec . Then so many degrees when you can feel the threads stretch .
Well the bright side is that the nut stripped and not the shaft
Yea that was really lucky haha
