It is a tribute to the impact of Vivien Leigh’s performances in two iconic film roles that she is rated in the top 25 actresses of classic cinema, considering that she appeared in a total of 19 films, only 8 of which were filmed after GWTW made her a big star.
In this special Jack Lemmon says in order to be eligible you have to have started your film career in or before 1950. James Dean feautre length films include Rebel Without a Cause & East of Eden in 1955 and Giant in 1956

A still of her does appear in the opening sequence alongside several other nonwhite stars of the period including Paul Robeson, Sessue Hayakawa, Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge. My guess is this was their way of saying "So uh yeah - even though we only have one nonwhite among the fifty screen legends we selected here's a few minority stars who get honorable mention so please don't judge us" lol If the voting was held today I'm really curious to see if it would pan out the same
Any list of screen legends that includes James Dean but doesn’t include Glenn Ford is not a proper list of screen legends. James Dean made only a handful of movies in a short number of years. Glenn Ford made over 80 movies over 50 years. There’s the difference.
@@nikosvault utter rubbish. You cite two Glenn Ford films out of nearly a 100 and use that as justification. Dean was a god awful actor. Jim Bacchus stole every scene he did with him. But, movies are a cast based thing and it’s not supposed to be a competition. But as you seem to think it is, take a look at movies like destroyer where Ford holds his own admirably against Edward G Robinson, then watch the big heat, blackboard jungle, the sheepman, cimmeron, heaven with a gun, trial, ransom the list is endless of why Ford is a true legend and Dean’s ‘cult’ status because of his early death is the ONLY reason he’s remembered. He wouldn’t have even lasted the 60’s when up against McQueen, Newman and Garner.

John Wayne at 13 is such a Hollywood moment lol

James Dean started in the late 40s. He has cameo roles. Sidney Poitier and Marlon Brando are in the same boat with him.

Quality over quantity. Dean went 3 for 3. Ford was not even the main reason why Gilda, 3:10 to Yuma and Blackboard Jungle became classics.
@@nikosvault neither was Dean the reason that bis movies were a success, shallow and moot argument there.
@@holydiver73 Dean was absolutely the reason. You can plug Alan Ladd into 99% of Fords roles and get the same result.

@@nikosvault well maybe some of his films but Giant had more well known stars like Rock Hudson and Liz Taylor who were more well known at the time
