Take it from a woman who patched her under wear over and over so I had money to buy my kids food and pay the rent. Tossing clothes isn't always a good thing. Kids clothes can be made out of clothes you don't wear or are worn out. I found that you can mix store bought milk with powdered milk and it actually tastes OK. Purging useless things is good to make room for needed things but think carefully if it can be used in another way.

Lynda, you are so right. I wanted to mention that in the video and didn't. Use discretion, as there are so many things that can be repurposed. And yes, I have grown quite accustomed and not at all squeamish about having to live several weeks on no dairy other than powdered milk.

Oh Christa, I love this challenge!! I’m in!! I have to tell you what a chuckle I got when you talked about burning the boxes. My dad always had a burn bin and my son has wonderful memories of helping his grandpa throw clutter papers, cardboard, etc in the burn bin. And when you got to exercise...you will be so proud of us...Ted and I started a yoga program!! And I love your idea about working on our faith...beautiful!! You are such an inspiration!! And yesterday I went through my pantry and and will be using up my food that is close to expiring. And I love the off line break. I am definitely in with that one. Ted and I are going to start playing a board game on Sunday afternoons. And when you said Raw Milk...yes!! That’s a wonderful routine!! And thank you so much for the scripture reading. You always touch my heart with those. Thank you so much for being you and for all you do!! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️ PS...I’m with you on the plastic bags!!

I would challenge my fellow prepsteaders to consider how they manage their finances. We recently stumbled across a financial class at church, and it has radically changed the way we're spending. The class we took was Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Another class they'll be offering is Crown Financial's Personal Finance class. While we didn't have any consumer debt, every time our household income has increased, we've found a way to spend it, with little to show for it, other than new bobbles or gadgets.
Either class (both of which are best in person and with a group, but if your local church or group isn't interested, you can do it online), or really any other financial class, is going to have you doing a number of things:
    * Creating a budget, updating it monthly as needed (expenses change, as does income levels)
    * Tracking spending (every dollar!) and sticking to that budget.
    * Savings for a small emergency fund (more later)
    * Paying down all consumer debt and refusing to create new debt.
    * Downsizing expenses, which may include doing drastic things like selling cars or a home that are beyond our means.
    * Saving for 3-6 months of expenses for a larger emergency fund.
    * Putting 15% toward retirement and becoming educated on various vehicles to invest.
    * Paying off the home mortgage early.
Note: these aren't done all at once. By starting with the creating a budget, and sticking to it (and we had to revise some things that we were trying to be too frugal on), we've cut our monthly expenses nearly in half. We're just on the stage of savings for 6 months of expenses and have 6 more months of saving to go to get that saved up (it'll be 10 months total that it'll take us to save). But once that's completed, we'll be balancing an extra funds toward retirement and trying to pay off our home mortgage 14 years early.

I think it would be a good exercise for folks to see just how much it takes to heat without modern conveniences. We use a chainsaw for cutting up the trees and a snowmobile to haul the wood but everything else is done manually. I can't imagine how difficult it would be if we had to do all of it manually!

About the plastic bags, I crochet them into mats for the homeless, or iron them together to create a heavy waterproof cover that can be use in a wide variety of ways. OR, use the fused bags to make waterproof pouches, grocery tot bags,
About the CDs, I hang them from my fruit bushes and trees to deter the birds from harvesting my fruit before I am able to.

This is a great idea. For us, we do not use the secular time table for the counting of the months and years but use the Biblical time table. So, the Biblical New Year has not come yet and it is closer to spring and we do a spring cleaning because we also get ready for the Pesach/Passover. That along with the week of Unleavened Bread means a new beginning and thus the need to clean out what we do not use and donate or recycle it.
So, my wife and I will discuss how we might be able to do this.
So, we as Hebrew believers bid to you Shalom b'Yahushuah, ha Masihach, amein. Peace in Yahushuah, the Messiah, amen.

I saw a very helpful video, which I haven’t done yet I admit, those plastic bags can be made into sleeping mats if you camp or give away for the homeless. Also, on the cardboard boxes, use them to start killing grass to start a garden. Very useful! Just flatten and weigh down so they don’t blow everywhere. If you have fallen leaves throw those on there. Beginnings of a lasagna garden and excellent soil! All of the suggestions are excellent as usual and I need to do ALL of them. Clothes either need giving away or put in a tote to prep for someone who needs it in an emergency. I need to downsize 50 years of stuff. Furniture, pots and pans, china and crystal I don’t use anymore, years and years qf accumulation while in my child rearing years that I thought I needed but really don’t.
Thank you for the suggestions! P.S. Can you suggest what to do with preps if you preps and how to organize pantries

January is usually my month for poring through seed and plant catalogues and to think about the garden. I'll also sometimes go through my seeds to check inventory before I order anything. It's also a good time of year for any winter pruning that needs to take place. I do no-spend challenges throughout the year and also try for unplugged weekends for the most part.
As for boxes, I set a limit on the number I keep on hand in case i need to send something, pack something, or store something. Anything over the limit is recycled. I do the same with packing materials, too. If I can't recycle those, I send a message out asking if anyone needs them, and I always get a taker. Some people are moving or selling things on ebay and needing packing materials.
    Great video--thanks!

Sort through your lumber stash. Cut up your clean scrap lumber for kindling and anything else dispose of. That stuff tends to multiply on a homestead and if you don't address it occasionally it can become overwhelming. Inspect your canning supplies, dispose of any chipped jars and rusted rings. Get rid of some of your used lids (that can't be used for canning again, I do save a few for storage of no-canned items) by this time of year I seem to have a ton of used lids. We already live a lifestyle that we only venture to the store about every 2-3 weeks. Sometimes less often sometimes more. A month of NO shopping is a common occurrence. Including internet shopping. I buy in bulk and try to use things with a little longer shelf life. This also us to stretch our runs out further. We drive 2 hours one way to do our major shopping. We do have a small store for perishables but even that is 20 miles. And items are 2x the cost. A box of butter is 7$

Good grief. You have clothes that you didn't actually need and never wore? Who are you? Who does that? We buy beautiful pre-owned clothes and look like a million bucks. We wear it out or if we just get tired of it, we share it with someone else in our circle or give it to the homeless. We never donate to any organization that would charge people for what we give them for free. There are lots of organizations that distribute clothes for free. We would never sell it just to buy another item of clothes that we really don't need and may not want all that badly. My clothing budget is $20 a month and that includes coats, shoes and purses. As far as cleaning and tossing - I am already there. I watched your video more than a year ago. I think cleaning up and tossing out are the very first thing to do. The second one for me was taking stock of what I have. Then be realistic about what your family eats - really really eats. Then SLOWLY stock up on those things. It took me about 1 year. How refreshing to see such a lovely, Godly woman with a wonderful pioneer spirit. I like your "minimalist" challenges. Btw, cardboard is a great weed barrier for gardening purposes used by many no-till gardeners. With extra tools like hammers, I like to have a tool station in every outbuilding, or location I might need one. It saves on a lot of walking back and forth.

Yes, Time has come to reveal to heal. Cardboard boxes will be used as a layer for starting a no-tilling veggie garden & I'm happy making confession of practices, because I am coming from a place of strength by setting somethings in order to succeed, with creating a wider perspective together, trusting through the trials of such things; aging issues, well-being, & attending programs in the community. I have," YET" to be a master of one thing. I willingly let go of things not being used that's in my shed. I will focus on how I manage to get it, and get it done. I will be grateful when it's an appointed time and place to be able to give and receive. Reading the scriptures will be a good book mark to start being in the pursuit of living better every day. • @MiddleEastMilli

A couple of different perspectives on this wonderful video. First, plastic bags are used in my area Senior Centers to make plarn (plastic yarn). With that plastic yarn, plarn, women crochet mats for homeless people for the winter. Also in Senior housing, plastic bags are golden to residents with dogs because the residents must pick up after their dog. :) TMI? Bear with me.
Next the large boxes you showed (as an example) are wonderful to keep on hand during the winter. With a little tape they can be pieced together for a window to block high winds and cold. When done, they fit behind a door, in a closet or even (gasp!) behind large furniture. :)
Finally, old clothing that is damaged or unliked can be kept for numerous reasons. First, what you have on hand is cheaper than what buying new fabric etc in the store will cost. Second, one can get creative with updating a wardrobe or kids clothes by using bits of what is available. One lady said make rugs or other things. Yes! The absence of shopping provokes creativity. Don't know where to put them? If you have a zip pillow case, they can be "stored" inside until the need arises. Online selling only works well if the clothes you are selling are in high demand.

The idea is to put them in a bucket of water after you use them. Than use a stick to beet the stuff out of them before you hang them outside to dry. Make sure you wash them before you use them.

Marie Kondo’s list of things to declutter and the order are brilliant. That’s all you need are the few pages that include a checklist or outline. Start with clothing. End with memorabilia.
Toni Hammersley’s fb group A Bowl Full of Lemons is running a 14 week Decluttering project with a printable. The book she wrote is very detailed.
Quiet Time first thing in the morning. Start the day off leisurely. For me that means 5 am because it quiet. It means an oil lamp and essential oils in the diffuser and hot Bengal tea with a pinch of turmeric.
After QT it’s exercise time. Ugh. Just get it done.
Simplifying means getting your mind and body into automation mode: routines. Get your body into a regular sleep cycle.
The Lord’s Day - work 6 and worship and rest 1. I agree. Not technology on Sunday. Focus on the Lord.

You may not think this exercise is important for those who are reading this. After the sudden death of my husband a 40 and being chronically ill, I had nothing for 6 months. I was so grateful that I was a prepper. At ate what I had canned. I had shampoo, and other things that made it comfortable. I had flowers that I was able to make a salad from. I encourage you learn a hobby or a trade. A hobby or a trade can allow you to trade your goods for something you may need from someone else. If there is no internet or TV a hobby or trade can keep your mind from stressing out. An emergency can be a lot of different situations in life. Being prayed up kept me from losing my mind. The most important thing is Jesus wrapping you in his love. So I encourage everyone to do this exercise. Blessings to everyone

I save all my plastic bags, because I use them to clean litter boxes and pick up dog poop in the back yard. They really come in handy for that. I have been saving a few small boxes from Amazon for packing up stuff to send to friends. However the big boxes from orders I get from Chewys I strip off tape and break down. Have used in the garden right on the grass to start a garden and keep the rest in the attic. If we get to a SHTF event they will line the windows and I have purchased many of those metallic thermal blankets that I can tack over walls and windows. They will reflect light and heat if it happens in the winter. This will be the first spring/summer I will have a veggie garden plus growing in pots. Found an old kiddie pool in the trash and have put holes in the bottom and around the edge to plant herbs. The only thing I grew last summer/fall were bush beans and beets. The beans never made it in the house, cause I was eating them as I picked them. Delicious. I have been through the clothes and passed on some and packed away some for future use or re-use. Love your UA-cam channel. Hve copied many of the recipes you showed from Ghee to Apple Cider vinegar to Neosporin. Thanks so much for sharing.

Reading through the comments I noticed many people mentioned using cardboard in the garden so I won't add to that. But I want to point out how many times you say "throw it away" in your video. With all due respect, there is no such place as "away" on planet Earth. Everything must go somewhere and right now our landfills are bursting at the seams and creating all kinds of pollution. So, if you edit this I would encourage you to stress repurposing or recycling unwanted items vs. throwing things away in the landfill. I'm with you on simplifying and have been in the habit of only shopping once a month now for decades. Also, I'm still wearing clothing I bought 20 years ago that is still serviceable because I take really good care of it - follow washing instructions, etc. Also, old cloth diapers make great toilet paper. Cut them into strips (and I hem mine on my sewing machine). After use they can be placed in a diaper pail and then washed once a week - like we used to do when our babies were little and we used cloth diapers. And finally... I grew up on what mother called "mixed milk" -half reconstituted dehydrated milk powder and half fresh milk from the store. I don't drink milk any more; but still use that combination when making yogurt.
