I made 2 batches of wild violet jelly for the first time this year. It turned out fantastic. Everyone that tasted it, liked it. Some of them remarked that it tasted almost like a wild
raspberry jelly. The violets are now gone from our yard; but, next year I will make more.
I can believe that. I am glad you make it too!
Made wild violet jelly as soon as they appeared this year.
It's amazing what you can use for jelly. Even rose petals (wild roses). But what this video reminds me of is when I was a kid we used to make chokecherry jelly. But we also had a tree that would occasionally produce small orange berries called buffalo berries. We would eat those when they did produce, which wasn't often. One year we decided to make jelly from them so we created a recipe and it was amazing. Be creative, you can really make some great jelly with a bit of creativity.
I love hearing good stories like this!
6yr old granddaughter just watched this with me. She was so amazed with the color changes. We're going to look for wild violets. Thanks for this wonderful child friendly teaching video.
I can’t wait till Spring/Summer to be able to make this. Patara from Appalachia’s Homestead has a video on it too.
If you don’t want to bother with your canner, you can do the inverted method to seal the lids. I would use lids and rings though. After you fill them, wipe the rim, add the lid and ring, then quickly tip them upside down for at least 30 minutes (I think). Turn back over and they will seal. 🧡 Lorie 😊
Beautiful and thank you! Also, a great sub for the boxed pectin, is the pure organic NO SUGAR added apple pectin - for those who can't / don't make it themselves.
Great video! I want to find those violets now. 😊
Well, I just picked 6 cups of redbuds for a triple recipe of that jelly...now I need to make this! The violets are blooming now, so I can't wait! Thanks, Christa! Oh, and I got a Kelly Kettle after seeing your review...love it!
Good evening from the garden
It is a great evening to spend out in the garden, isn't it? :)
I'm going violet picking in my yard RIGHT NOW!! THANK YOU!💕
I first saw you back in 2016. Learned a lot. Even how to make a brick rocket stove.
This recipe sounds absolutely amazing!!! Gonna have my eye out for some of these flowers!!! 💜💟💜💟💜💟💜💜💜
It's so good!
Lovely Wild Violets💟Myriads
Yum !!!
Great to see a video from you !
Love ya sis !!
❤💖😉🙂
Thank you so much for this recipe. I don't think I have enough violets but I would like to try this someday. Many blessings to you! 💞
Lovely!
Christa....what a great idea! Now I have something to add to my list for next spring since our violets are all gone for the season. Thank you for taking me back when I learned how to make jelly with my Dad and stepMom. We would make crabapple jelly which was (in my opinion the best jelly ever! I used to work with people with disabilities and we went and picked grapes and then taught them how to make their own jelly to take home....priceless! Thank you for being such a light of goodness!!! Take care...Robin
This was lovely! We don’t have violets here, but I may try this with hibiscus.
I’m so bummed! Our glorious wild violets just finished blooming about a week ago. I guess there’s always next year, right?!?❤
I thought the exact same thing :)
Yep.. same here
Watching while my nephew tests for yellow belt!!! 🎉🎉🎉🥋💛😂
That's great, Michael. I hope he does well!
@@PREPSTEADERS So far, so good! Thank you, Christa!! 🤜💥🤛
Wonderful recipe.
I love learning from you, your wonderful, thank you and May God bless you always
*You never fail to amaze aaaaand please me* _(and others)_ *at the great ideas, recipes, projects etc - using common* _but little known)_ *edibles!*
Could you use other Violets - such as the larger Pansy types?
You can also make Redbud jelly.
❤. So simple. Now I want to go pick some.
I have never heard of this, but now I'm thinking about making jelly from all of the edible flowers- not sure how some of them would taste. Thanks for posting!
Not all will give a flavour. Roses, peonies, violets, lilacs, dandelion, hibiscus, honeysuckle, lavender all work. There are probably more, but do your research. You can also use spruce tips when they're fresh.
I love your recipes and your channel.
Looks good
How wonderful! I am making this! Thanks so very much!!!
Red Bud Tree Blossoms Are Edible!:-)🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
❤ Sounds delicious!
God bless you !! Wonderful video
Lovely video ❤🎉
I've made wild violet jelly. It's a tough finding any violet patches that yield a decent quantity of flowers the past two years. A beautiful patch was killed by the property owner so no crop there now. I tried to make violet syrup & wonder if you have any tips on keeping the lovely violet color in the syrup? I'm happy to see you teaching this jelly project! Thanks!
You’re awesome
❤
I wonder if this would work with honey suckles? Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.
If that tastes as good as it looks it should be good. Is that your Prepsteaders cargo trailer behind you there? I have a yard full of all kinds of weeds that are really getting tall but I don't know if I have any of those. Big hugs for you,Jesus loves you.
The purple and green combination of wild violets just has to be the most beautiful combination of colors. With tons of them growing in the back yard, mowing seems oh so wrong, so they often get left growing where they are. Now, poison ivy, I have lots of that too. Got any recipes for it? :)
I agree with you, @AerobaticDiabetic! I let the violets grow just about everywhere possible. The Poison Ivy, on the other hand. . .I have heard it had medicinal uses in days of old, but have not heard exactly how or what it was used for! If I discover something, I'll let you know! ....or you let me know if you ever find out please. There just has to be some redemptive quality we haven't heard of yet for that horrible ivy. :) I want there to be some good in it we can celebrate!
🙏🙏🙏
Do you make lilac jelly
Can you pick the violets & freeze them for later? Thinking freezing until Christmas.
I have a question, can anything be made from honeysuckle ?
You are his mesenger.❤
The deer eat all of the blossoms off of our wild violets... every year. We almost never even see them blooming, for the early morning grazers actions.
I like the deer, though.
Little Johnny Jump Ups.
Hi. I was raised a catholic and wasn’t really introduced to a bible. I want to purchase a bible , but there are so many versions that I’m not sure which version is considered to be the most accurate. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
🙌Hallelujah! 🔥We must live in repentance. Repent, be baptized for the forgiveness of sins & receive Holy Ghost & go out & make disciples by baptizing & teaching them to OBEY! 🙌❤️Acts 2:38, Matt 28:18-20
Mark 16:16 Lord Jesus says HE THAT BELIEVETH & IS BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED.
No scripture to support salvation prayer & once saved always saved. Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the Kingdom but he who does the will of the Father in Heaven. Matt 7:21 No sacrifice for willful sin Heb 10:26
NO SUGAR, NO SIMPLE SYRUP
You are insanely beautiful. Success to you and prosperity. 😎👍
