    I made 2 batches of wild violet jelly for the first time this year. It turned out fantastic. Everyone that tasted it, liked it. Some of them remarked that it tasted almost like a wild
    raspberry jelly. The violets are now gone from our yard; but, next year I will make more.

    It's amazing what you can use for jelly. Even rose petals (wild roses). But what this video reminds me of is when I was a kid we used to make chokecherry jelly. But we also had a tree that would occasionally produce small orange berries called buffalo berries. We would eat those when they did produce, which wasn't often. One year we decided to make jelly from them so we created a recipe and it was amazing. Be creative, you can really make some great jelly with a bit of creativity.

    I can’t wait till Spring/Summer to be able to make this. Patara from Appalachia’s Homestead has a video on it too.
    If you don’t want to bother with your canner, you can do the inverted method to seal the lids. I would use lids and rings though. After you fill them, wipe the rim, add the lid and ring, then quickly tip them upside down for at least 30 minutes (I think). Turn back over and they will seal. 🧡 Lorie 😊

    Beautiful and thank you! Also, a great sub for the boxed pectin, is the pure organic NO SUGAR added apple pectin - for those who can't / don't make it themselves.

    Christa....what a great idea! Now I have something to add to my list for next spring since our violets are all gone for the season. Thank you for taking me back when I learned how to make jelly with my Dad and stepMom. We would make crabapple jelly which was (in my opinion the best jelly ever! I used to work with people with disabilities and we went and picked grapes and then taught them how to make their own jelly to take home....priceless! Thank you for being such a light of goodness!!! Take care...Robin

      Not all will give a flavour. Roses, peonies, violets, lilacs, dandelion, hibiscus, honeysuckle, lavender all work. There are probably more, but do your research. You can also use spruce tips when they're fresh.

    I've made wild violet jelly. It's a tough finding any violet patches that yield a decent quantity of flowers the past two years. A beautiful patch was killed by the property owner so no crop there now. I tried to make violet syrup & wonder if you have any tips on keeping the lovely violet color in the syrup? I'm happy to see you teaching this jelly project! Thanks!

    If that tastes as good as it looks it should be good. Is that your Prepsteaders cargo trailer behind you there? I have a yard full of all kinds of weeds that are really getting tall but I don't know if I have any of those. Big hugs for you,Jesus loves you.

    The purple and green combination of wild violets just has to be the most beautiful combination of colors. With tons of them growing in the back yard, mowing seems oh so wrong, so they often get left growing where they are. Now, poison ivy, I have lots of that too. Got any recipes for it? :)

    • @PREPSTEADERS
      @PREPSTEADERS  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree with you, @AerobaticDiabetic! I let the violets grow just about everywhere possible. The Poison Ivy, on the other hand. . .I have heard it had medicinal uses in days of old, but have not heard exactly how or what it was used for! If I discover something, I'll let you know! ....or you let me know if you ever find out please. There just has to be some redemptive quality we haven't heard of yet for that horrible ivy. :) I want there to be some good in it we can celebrate!

    I like the deer, though.

    🙌Hallelujah! 🔥We must live in repentance. Repent, be baptized for the forgiveness of sins & receive Holy Ghost & go out & make disciples by baptizing & teaching them to OBEY! 🙌❤️Acts 2:38, Matt 28:18-20
