To help start getting the water out of the clothes, you can place the inner tub on an elevated surface like a clean cinder block or a few bricks, place the outer bucket inside the "drum" and press down firmly. It will help remove a good bit of the water and make wringing less messy. Also, if someone has arthritis and has difficulty wringing, a new, clean janitor's mop bucket with the mop wringer on the top can eliminate the need to wring. Just place one or two items of clothing in at a time and pull the handle to mash the water out.

My washing machine broke last week and we had someone come out today to try and fix it - not a chance of it being repaired as the motherboard has fried itself ( along with several other components ), and when the guy added up the cost of the 4 parts we needed, plus his labour, it worked out to £65 more than buying a new machine would cost !
So until we have the money in about 6 weeks, this video is a litteral godsend for us, as the only thing we need to buy is a plunger, as we have all the other stuff.
Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge with us all, it's really gonna help us out more than you can realise as there are no laundry centers in our small town to use.

He would drive all over the country roads running his errands. All the bouncing cleaned the clothes.

I read very recently of someone loading up two large buckets into the back of their pickup truck, (one for washing, one for rinsing); throw the dirty clothing into the washing one with water and detergent, and bounce along their corrugated country road for 30 plus minutes. Before leaving town, they'd wring the "cleaned" clothes out, pop 'em into the rinse bucket. When home, wring them out and hang them to dry. The washing would get done on the road trip lol.

I would suggest to put one hole at the bottom side of the outer bucket so you could just turn on the faucet and slowly draining the water while pumping on the clothes until you get to see that it's done when you see clean water draining already..of course you'll need a rubber plug or cork to close the draining hole when in the washing process

You can also spin the water out of your clothes by hanging the perforated bucket up from a rope in a tree or porch overhang and twisting it for a while, and then let go of it. When you let go you may want to run away or you will get wet. I saw another video about this same method, but I believe their holes in their bucket were approximately 1 inch each.

It contains blue dye and titanium dioxide which is extremely bad for humans, animals, and the environment in general. I used to think it was safe for animals since the commercials showed people cleaning aquatic life with it. If you still choose to use it, you might want to wear gloves to protect your skin from absorbing it.

Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge that our grand parents an great grand parents had to use in their daily lives. Everything they did they had to in order to survive in those days. Mainly food, hunting, fishing, raising live stock and gardening were the main things they knew along with building a house and if they didn't store food for the winter they went hungry. How many people today know all those things. Most city people don't know any of them and if a crisis would happen, I believe they would not live long. But for people like myself who lived in the country all our lives, we know how to do it all. I have taught others during my life, but since it's been so easy for everyone to get everything on the list they forgot how to take care of themselves. We need more videos just like this to teach them they can do it. I think I have been blessed to see this video today and it makes my heart happy to know that you are showing others how they can wash their clothes the old way. Years ago they even used huge metal pots over a fire to heat the water an they washed the clothes in hot water because cold water doesn't get them as clean. Hot water opens the fibers in the clothes and allows them to get cleaner. I rince in hot water also, but I'm also known for shrinking the clothes. We who knows how needs to teach those who don't know. Focus on food if you don't know anything, learn how to get the meats and vegetables. Learn how to make it. Get chickens and raise them. If a hen is sitting on her eggs and the rooster has been busy visiting her, let her hatch the babies. That way you have more of them. More chickens equals more eggs and you don't want to have a bunch of males, you only need a few so you trade the roosters to others with chickens and working together means higher survival rate in a small community. Share the love. I wish I had bout 100 to 500 acres to have people come an learn how to do everything, including running a saw mill for making your own lumber to build barns and houses. All the things we have today makes it Alot easier to do these things. Knowledge is the key to Survival. Once you have that, you can do everything else. God bless you all and thank you so much for making this video. In times of crisis, help everyone you can. Please do not let anyone go hungry if you can help them. I was taught to share, I still do today over 50 years later. Share the Love, it is the glue that holds this Universe Together. Amen.

Great use of simple products! Enjoyed reading through the comments and different tips or suggestions offered. Mine is the same as Eileen - soaking for several minutes first before plunging is very effective for helping to release soils, etc. And I have to say the wringer washer had many good points (my mother had one on which I learned to do laundry) - mainly water conservation. She did several loads of washing with one washer load of water (starting from white loads and ending with dark). Then when the clothes were rinsed and wrung, it was out to the clothesline to hang and dry. I started out married life wiht a little washer/spin dryer. It was a step up from a wringer-washer where you didn't have to feed each piece of clothing, etc through the wringer - you could just load the wet pieces into the spin-dryer side of the washer and the water could be returned to the washer basin. In today's world of water shortages, these kinds of options should be more available. Thank you for your well presented tutorial.

That's was actually my first thought too, but I quickly found that the mop squeezer is not even remotely effective on small items like socks, underwear, bras and small towels because of the gap between the squeezer and the back. I still keep it as a backup but a clothes wringer is my optimal option.

Use the clean mop bucket with the wringer as your rinse water tub for smaller things.
Thinking of larger things like sheets and blankets, and heavier cloths/jeans/coats, Couldn't you make the same type of thing with syrup tubs?

As a guy I fill a bucket with 2-3 gallons of warm water, detergent, dirty laundry, put the lid on, then violently shake it, and with the first few shakes requiring to "burp" the pressure (warm water + air space expansion = requires burping) for about 1-2 minutes sometimes even doing this more than once (if the laundry is really dirty). I tried the multiple buckets, plunger, drill holes in the second bucket/plunger, etc but for a combo of speed and effectiveness violent shaking if you're strong enough is the overall most effective. I do the laundry over the bathtub therefore I scoop the wet laundry and use a simple plastic basket from dollar tree to put the wet clothes in over the bucket to drain majority of the liquid (usually about 10-15 minutes), dump the bucket, fill with clean water, and shake/refill/rinse about 2-3 times (draining between each load to get as much soap out of the laundry) before hang drying the clothes. I notice my clothes coming out very clean but air drying it in the shower even with a fan blowing will build a smell over time unless you dry the load under sunlight or a dryer about once per month.
The only thing that makes this pretty impractical is the amount of rinsing that has to be done but it also shows how actual washing machines leaves soap in the clothes (I do my laundry at a laundry mat once per month to mainly access the dryer but I notice when manually washing test that the laundry machines leave a decent amount of soap in the clothes, even after doing two cycles there).

All you really need is 1 intact bucket. You wash our clothes is some elbow grease wrong them out . Rinse twice or how long it takes to get soap out , wrong shake out and hang to dry. It's how our grandparents did it and how we've done it during power outages.

The easiest way to wring out laundry off grid is, to buy a commercial yellow bucket with the manual wringer on top (to squeeze out a commercial white mop), but you use it to wring out your laundry.
Make sure you only have a new one for laundry 🧺 but have a second one if you need one, for a commercial mop to clean your floor.
I have a commercial yellow wringer/bucket, to use with my commerce mop to clean for my own home.
You might be able to use the wringer mop bucket to do your laundry in, with the plunger (put holes in your plunger for the soapy water to flow through), and add the wringer top to use push drain the soap from your clothes.
Add rinse water and plunge, then put the push wringer top on to drain the rinse water out of your clothes to hang up to dry.
    Work smarter, not harder.

Water drains into the garden. best design is to have your laundry station elevated and then channel the water into your garden plots. Hot summer days are nice to do the work, don't mind getting wet. White vinegar has been going up in price dramatically EACH WEEK!
It's now the price of GASOLINE per gallon.

And has been going up about 30 cents each week.

I have lived off grid in a national forest for 8 yrs. Ive tried it all. ,If you gave me one of these, i would cry and throw it at you. Lol.... It was my first experiment. The plunger does not agitate the clothes. It packs it into the bottom. Its cute. Not practicle. Take off the lid. Take the plunger off the stick. Use the stick, if you dont like getting your hands wet, and push the clothing from the sides, down. The opposite side will get pushed up. Use the stick to then Draw those accross and push them down. Round and round....wash rinse repeat. I have long abandoned this but it gets the job done in a pinch.... Good luck with that.

Its not just a "grid down" situation that this is useful for. In my case, a divorce left me with nothing but an RV to live in. My washer and dryer are in storage for the foreseeable future as I'm a disabled senior on SS. I wash my clothes in my kitchen sink when I'm able. A 5 gallon bucket is out of the question for me because i can't lift it when I'm on crutches.
But, if I was able, I'd forget about wringing the clothes by hand, that's not easy on arthritic hands. Buy a paint mixer for your drill, dump the wash water, use the paint paddle to spin dry in the bucket, rinse, then spin dry in the bucket again after dumping the rinse water. You need enough material in the bucket for the paddles to get a grip on them to spin.
God bless you for teaching people how to survive using a mix of old ways and newer technology.

Those store named buckets from Home Depot, Tractor Supply etc., are made from really cheap brittle plastic and break down in less than a year if left outside with some sun exposure. To find good buckets, find a salvage place that sells recycled buckets, or sometimes food businesses that use buckets of cherry pie filling or something, will sell buckets. A clean plunger might be a good idea, but for spinning draining clothing, forget holes, I love those collaspable metal baskets you can also spin salad in. A little small for some things, but while outside you just swing your arm around with the basket full of clothes in it and the centrifical forces do a pretty good job. Not good for really big things.

I had something similar I always carried with me when I drove road trains all the Australian outback. I only had one bucket and I didn't bother with the plunger. I'd put my dirty clothes, water and detergent in the bucket, secure it somewhere on the outside of the truck and drive off. The constant motion of the truck would wash the clothes. Later, I'd stop and rinse the clothes. It worked great, but the two bucket method is a great improvement.

After rising clothes, grab the inner bucket by the handle, and spin yourself in a circle fast. There you have a human spin cycle.😂

With all due respect, but in all honesty: What a beautiful woman you are!
Your warmth and femininity cannot be ignored. This is not learned, trained or faked.
It comes straight from your core.
Thanks for brightening my otherwise depressing day.
