Weird Al is a damn treasure, and deserves to be in the RnR Hall of Fame. His parodies are brilliant, but he also writes equally awesome original songs, and puts on a great concert. Also, by all accounts, he's an awesome human being who's had the same guys in his band since he started out. Great choice, this one's a blast - much love from Canada!

All his videos are worth it. Eat It, smells like Nirvana, all about the pentiums, Amish paradise. Most people only know him from song parodies, but he also does original somgs influenced by other artists. The fun thing with Al's videos is to catch the Easter eggs like pop culture references he puts in. And by the way, Al's main instrument is the accordion.

I love Weird Al! I may not listen to him on a regular basis nor keep up with his latest, but I certainly admire his creativity and his sense of humour. Humour is sorely lacking in music for the past...couple of decades? at least, and his parodies are legendary. He also keeps up with different styles of music, you have to give him credit for that too!

@@danielshea518with this being a producer's reaction I had hoped there would be more props for how well they executed the sound of "Riding Dirty." Frankly, too many don't even consider that Al has only ever added band members, never lost band members (since the 70s), and the whole band together are so skilled to be able to pull off the expensive breadth of genres Al's assorted parodies and pastiches span.

Several have mentioned Donny Osmond, but what about Key & Peele in the convertible? Thanks for catching that! Weird Al parodies lots of iconic songs, and has some great originals as well. At Weird Al's Walk of Fame installation, guest Don McLean confessed that sometimes he has to make sure he's not singing Al's "The Saga Begins" instead of his own words to "American Pie".

Someone has already mentioned that Weird Al plays an accordion and that the dancer in the background is Donny Osmond (who could be more white and nerdy?). Yes, Weird Al does parodies, but let me point out three things: 1) His parodies are never mean spirited. He never disrespects the original artist or the song’s original message. 2) He asks permission from the original artist, although legally, he’s not required to do so for parodies. 3) He never uses foul language in his parodies. He just has fun with the original tunes. If you want to hear an original Weird Al song, listen to “Hardware Store.” It’s hilarious, and he raps faster than in any other song he’s ever done.

Weird Al is a True Musician/Performer.....
Think of the talent it takes to take someone else's melody(music) and make lyrics that match and tell a story......
Then Add the ability/talent/skill to change his singing style for each song.... Rap/Country/Rock/Mellow.......
Most Artists see it as a sign they have 'made it"...... When Weird Al makes a Parody of one of your songs.......
Also If you look at sales/download trends... It has been reported that when Weird Al Parodies a song there is a noticable increase in the original song as well.......

WOOO!! Coupla things. Up front-anybody who has a problem with Al is clearly radicalised and should turn themselves in immediately. I started with Al on Dr. Demento in 1978 and has been there through divorces, deaths, marriages and a homicide or two. But woe the day when you don't know the original songs he's parodying! I've watched dozens of reactions to this song and not a single reactor recognises Donny Osmond. (Talk about whiter than sour cream. He was the sh*t when I was 6.) And yes, that was Key and Peele! Do all the Al you want, dude. And don't pass on his originals. "One More Minute" is a particular fave. So do all the Al you can-we can all use the laughs. Love your channel!

😂 if you love this you have to check out Rucka Rucka Ali with parody" I can do whatever I'm white " from TI - you can do whatever you like. That is so hilarious, you will be rolling! He even has TI in his music video. It's a must 😆

Weird Al plays a lot of different instruments, including the harmonica, but the one you're thinking of is almost certainly the accordion. That's the one he's principally known for, and the most important in the history of his career. Speaking of the history of his career, it got off the ground in the seventies but continued to gradually grow as he gained more fans over time through word of mouth over the next several decades; it started to taper off after Mandatory Fun, when he didn't continue to produce new albums, probably because there hasn't been a lot of new music since then that's both unique enough and also sufficiently well known, to be worth making parodies of. (Do you really want to hear a Weird Al parody of Love Yourself, for example? I don't. There *has* been new music that's actually good, but it's mostly been more obscure stuff with a smaller following.) Although the movie project might also have been a contributing factor, by taking up a lot of his time and energy for a while. I do wish he'd do a parody of one of The Warning's songs at some point, but by the time they started to really get big, it had already been 5+ years since his last album.

Most acts now know that if Weird Al covers their song, it increases their sales as well. And Coolio said that getting upset with Al was one of the dumbest things that he ever did.

Most artists loved having Weird Al doing a satire of one of their songs. Some artist like Madonna gave Weird Al permission, only if she could be in the video “Like a Surgeon “.
But unfortunately, this guy didn’t like Al doing it C’est la vie dude. 😂.

    • @mustangdebbie56

That was not Madonna in the video. Greg Kihn did appear in the I Lost on Jeopardy video. It was Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits that said he had to play guitar on the Money For Nothing parody (he did not appear on the video).
Also, Chamillionaire loved the parody. It was Coolio that had an issue with Amish Paradise, but later apologized.

    Here's the thing about Coolio.
He's said in the years since the blow up over "Amish Paradise" that he overreacted, and that he'd wished his people had told him to chill out over it. He's 💯 cool with Weird Al now, there's no beef whatsoever.
