MT-07 Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust Review & Sound

  • I take a look at the Yamaha MT-07 Akrapovic Titanium full exhaust available directly through Yamaha, featuring a titanium muffler, carbon end-cap and stainless steel headers.
    The standard MT-07 exhaust is a one-piece system, meaning you do need to splash out on a full system like this, rather than having the option of a slip-on, and this system will set you back about $1500 AUD here in Australia, although there's also a 'Carbon Racing Line' version around the $1200 mark, with a more traditional separate muffler design.
    This unit saves just under 2 kg, with Yamaha stating a 2.2 kW power increase and 3.6 Nm torque boost as well. Interestingly the cheaper system also from Yamaha saves 3 kg and slightly less power.
    Here's my thought on the exhaust fitted to the Yamaha MT-07, as well as a sound test of revving the bike at a stand still, plus on-board towards the end of the video.
    If you're in Australia here's a link to this specific exhaust at the Yamaha Motor Australia website:

    Sounds like crap with the baffle, with it out it's one of the best exhaust notes I've ever heard on bike. that said if you do decide to take it out you need a tune because there's a huge dip in torque at low rpm, it's especially bad if you don't have the optional catalytic converter which most won't.

    Great looks with a nice subtle note. I’ve found out the hard way that loud exhaust systems attract the wrong kind of attention 🚨

    Thanks Kris! It is a bit of a pain to remove the dB killer however if you want the cops to know you’re coming from miles away and to truly hear that 270 crank at full noise then it’s the way to go. The stock exhaust just sounds like a sewing machine. 👍😎

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 роки тому +2

      Haha, yep it's a bit of a trade off. I've had a few bikes where I've normally tried to roll past the cops on a closed throttle to avoid any extra attention. Particularly challenging when it comes to a RBT and you're waddling down the road to get far enough away to start the bike back up.
      Huge improvement even with the baffle in on these, just sad the sound restrictions are so crazy these days.

      Weird, the price here is bumped up to $1513 now but still available. Is that perhaps a different full titanium system? This one is a titanium muffler, stainless headers. There did seem to be a few outliers that cost way more when I searched up this one, although I couldn't spot a difference in the exhausts, only the price!

    I have the same bike with the same exhaust. Don’t listen the the keyboard warriors that have never heard the exhaust in person. leave the db killer in. I took mine out just to see what it was like and it’s a waste of time. It does sound great at around 4K rpm but is is so ridiculously loud to the point that it hurts your hearing and attracts unwanted attention.

      I have the same experience that irst I tought that akra vill be too silent with muffler on. However, after I changed the new akra to my bike and drove ew hundreds o kilometers I concluded that the sound is right on sport now (with muffler in). Nice burbling sound with right amount of noise without getting annoying in longer rides.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 роки тому

      There's a couple of different versions available, some are sold as a 'Yamaha' accessory by Akro, while Akrapovic have their own range that just sit under their own branding. I'm pretty sure the fit is universal from the 2014 to 2021 MT-07s too.

      I just tested it with the db killer in, as it's a bit of a mission to remove it due to how it's connected in (you basically need to remove the whole system. That's obviously closer to stock, so makes a tune less necessary, but plenty of people also run it without the db killer. The advantage of this being developed between the two brands is definitely there.@@KaizersPOV

Shouldn't be too hard to do at home either if you've got the tools and a little experience on the spanners, but if you're not confident the dealer or a mechanic is the way to go.
