Heya Mumbo! Avid rhythm game player here. Dance Dance Revolution doesn't actually penalize you for having your foot on an arrow when there's nothing there. Mumbo, you know if you add a high score per song function you also need to be able to keep track of player high scores per song right? More so if you put it on Hermitcraft. All the hermits are going to want to compare their scores with each other and know what their high score is on a given song. I think Etho is using player heads to keep track of player scores somehow in his frogger game.
Yeah Etho has a system where an item is dispensed into a shulker box for every point gained, and once the player had finished/lost, their head would be collected and added to that box. Then Etho will collect those boxes manually and display all the high scores in the shop.
while it’d nice to have that automatically, an even simpler solution for hermitcraft is for the hermits themselves to just log their scores in a book on a lectern for each song. even etho’s system is mainly manual and i don’t think it’d be a problem if mumbo didn’t want to configure a high score system via redstone

If you add slabs between the pressure plates in the corners it'll be harder to cheese as you won't be able to stand on two at once. If ever this did appear on HC (hint hint), I'm sure people would try to do that, so it'd be helpful to prevent. It'd be harder, but more accurate.
You'd have to be so accurate with your movement it would be no fun. You could do a press order detecter, so only the most recent press would be activated, but honestly this feels hard enough!
@@ThatMumboJumbo Fair enough. I thought it would be quite hard, but I wondered if this was part of the reason you scored so highly. I can also imagine people just bouncing between the front-left and bottom-right corners to effectively have all 4 pressed all the time, but if you could assume good faith, there'd be no problem. Fantastic video, though! One of the weirdest contraptions I've ever seen, but very smart. Thank you so much for making it! :D
Another solution could be building this diagonally, initially i would think of just spacing the plates a bit farther away but that would ruin the game feeling, having the plates be on the corners of a 3x3 and building the display diagonally sounds better in that way, the distance between plates is small but also u cant sit on 2 at once, single issue is having a diagonal display, which is probably harder to do
@@never371 it honestly feels wrong to have the inputs of UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT on diagonals, as well as the fact you need to press 2 buttons to walk diagonally for just 1 input (even tho going from UP to LEFT on a ‘+’ board also requires imputs but you get the point I hope. Also how will you decide which corner gets which input without it being too confusing
Awesome vid and cool concept as always. For storing high scores of different songs you could dispense items into a shulker for the high score then store one per song then when the song is selected pull that shulker and count the items out and reinsert them then add more if the high score is beaten
@@ThatMumboJumbo fair, i guess you could have items for each place in a binary number and if they are in the shulker its a 1 and if its not its a 0 then just read the binary, then with 15 items like colours wool or something you could have a max score of like 16k
This is such a fun idea and seems really impressive! Also very complicated, but that's the joy of watching a redstone master as someone who doesn't do redstone
The bots on YT and other socials are getting kinda outta control ngl, but also now that he's built it in creative he could use lightmatica to transfer it
great contraption, but there are 2 things i would've changed 1. make the step indicators larger. making each "section"3x3 would slow them more. 2. make a disc selection system - you put in a disc to select the song, and it just plays the disc you put in to completion.
...I can't unsee that now. It _totally is,_ isn't it? Just a cluttered collection of madcap contraptions that were invented for the sake of invention, sprawling out in every direction!
Two things I thought of, a lectern for song selection, and fireworks every once in a while, either for distractions, coolness, or another indication of right inputs Then with the fireworks, they could launch a bunch for new high scores Either way, insane video
Oh man! I can't wait to hear the updates to Redstone in your next video from the latest snapshot. I found out there were changes but none of the minecrafters I watch have covered it yet. Depending on you to help me understand.❤
For the keeping track of scores, etho did a really neat thing with his frogger game that detects everytime a point is scored and puts a "point" in a shulker box. I'm not sure how that'd work with the multiple songs, maybe detecting the strength from the music disc that's currently playing? Idk how that works spatially. Just an idea to save scores
I don't comment on videos often but this one, this one DESERVED a comment, very proud of you effectively making a Dance Dance Revolution game, this was a joy to watch. Thank you Mumbo :D
Mumbo, you could probably make it so that the direction signals don't light up so many lamps at the same time. Copper bulbs are pretty much instant, so you just need to have two signals very close to each other in order to turn the copper bulbs on and off really quick. Having the direction signals be "longer" probably does make them more obvious and easier to see, but I could easily see players be confused on when exactly they need to press the pressure plate with how "long" the direction signals are.
Adding my voice to the calls to put this in Hermitcraft. Might not be decked out 2 (nothing yet by any hermit has come close to decked out 2), but this is still very awesome!! I'm pretty sure several Hermits would play the heck out of this.
I actually love this mumbo, i saw in description that you're planning to build this on hermitcraft and i couldn't be happier that looks so fun with friends
This should be added to the Hermitcraft server, and there could be a book with the top 10 scores for each song with a song on each page and the Hermits write their score in the book
you should 100% add this to the hermitcraft server!! it would be sick seeing all the other creators try this game out. and for the highscore thing you could have a book and quill and they write down there score, you take their scores and update a sign board of the highscores for each song!! Watching you play it, it doesn’t remind me of dance dance revolution, it just looks like you’re in a conversation with someone
Perry deserves the top comment with this one, because as they say, “it’s funny, CUZ ITS TRUE.” Also, hi Perry!
hi perry. i don't know who you are but this other person said hi perry
@@erierierierierie LOL you should check Perry out!! Perry is a really great animator that the fandom is quite quickly beginning to love!!! I’d recommend lol!🤣🤣🤣🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hi Perry! I also do not know who you are, but hi!
Hi perryy!! Idk who you are but I heard you dissapear randomly during the day
Cant wait to hear Hermit Gang on the server and watch you mess up the moves!
12:30 This is exactly how coders speak when trying to fix their code for the 53rd time.

I CANT WITH THE THUMBNAIL!!!!! I love it so much
just dance in Minecraft was not on my 2024 bingo card but here we are
It's more like DDR than just dance but you got a point
Wait what was on your bingo card
this feels like a build for the hermitcraft gaming district
These videos are always so relaxing to me in a weird way. I have no clue what's going on, I'm not trying to understand either. Just vibing.
This is definitely going in the gaming district, no way he's doing a high score system without a need
this video just made me realize that if someone's crazy enough they could map "through the fire and flames" and play it in minecraft
Awesome vid and cool concept as always. For storing high scores of different songs you could dispense items into a shulker for the high score then store one per song then when the song is selected pull that shulker and count the items out and reinsert them then add more if the high score is beaten
Could go minecart of shulkers if you anticipate it going above shulker item cap
@@CaptainTigger I did think this, but would be quite a slow system sadly!
@@ThatMumboJumbo fair, i guess you could have items for each place in a binary number and if they are in the shulker its a 1 and if its not its a 0 then just read the binary, then with 15 items like colours wool or something you could have a max score of like 16k
1:24 It's really not simple.
This is such a fun idea and seems really impressive! Also very complicated, but that's the joy of watching a redstone master as someone who doesn't do redstone
What is with all the bots on my and everyone else's comments, geez
The bots on YT and other socials are getting kinda outta control ngl, but also now that he's built it in creative he could use lightmatica to transfer it
Im so happy to see this vid!! I've been working on and off trying to build a ddr game in Minecraft for about 3 years
great contraption, but there are 2 things i would've changed
1. make the step indicators larger. making each "section"3x3 would slow them more.
2. make a disc selection system - you put in a disc to select the song, and it just plays the disc you put in to completion.
0:56 dawned on me that Mumbo's redstone map is... Dexter's laboratory. That put a smile on my face.
how so?
...I can't unsee that now. It _totally is,_ isn't it? Just a cluttered collection of madcap contraptions that were invented for the sake of invention, sprawling out in every direction!
You could’ve used skulk sensors to detect the arrows, preventing stickiness of the pressure plates
Never thought that I would ever see mumbo poke fun at the Olympics xD
Everyone should poke fun at the Olympics
Two things I thought of, a lectern for song selection, and fireworks every once in a while, either for distractions, coolness, or another indication of right inputs
Then with the fireworks, they could launch a bunch for new high scores
Either way, insane video
Firework for 10 strike perfect input
Oh man! I can't wait to hear the updates to Redstone in your next video from the latest snapshot. I found out there were changes but none of the minecrafters I watch have covered it yet. Depending on you to help me understand.❤
Not what I expected from you mumbo jumbo but maybe what we needed lol
Mumbo doing this just to prove he’s not only a builder now.
Wow, its really cool to seey favorite builder branch out into redstone! :)
Best thumbnail ever. Now, we just need the real mumbo to try that routine to the best of his abilities
I'm pretty sure even the last surviving veteran of world war II could do the Aussie breakdancing routine
I still can't get over the thumbnail
Every time i look at it
I just cant hold myself😂
It would be so cool if this would exist in the hermitcraft gaming district.
I agree, It should be added for the Hermits to play
But think about the hell that collecting all these music discs will be.
@@ewandejonge3731i mean there’s music disc farms so it probably wouldn’t be that hard
If there’s a permit for music disks, this would be perfect for the shop too
I'm convinced Mumbo is just a command block given a conscious
@JoeyEire-l9pSHUT UP
i posted a preview of how to shut the hell up bot
i posted a preview of how to shut the hell up bot
Okay, legendary thumbnail. Show that to Etho, lol
Anyways loved this video!!
3:45 it is Grian and Scar proof
There's no such thing as Grian or Scar proof 🤣
@@leedesfleursthey press random buttons

Is good to see mumbo doing mad redstone again. I feel like Pearl showing him up set his head straight! Now channel this redstone energy into hermitcraft!
Mumbo doing the Mambo!
Genius
“You’re a dance machine!”
“No! You’re a dance machine!!”
Wow I didnt expect a builder like you to be so good at redstone! /s
This would be sick on the hermitcraft server!
British man with mustache dancing is something I need to see in real life now
Here before Mumbo changes this strange thumbnail like if you saw it 0:03
What was it beforee?
What was it?!
what was it
A guy in break dancing Olympics with mumbos face on
@AvaTysonWon stupid bots
Mumbo here almost hits 10 Millions, I'm with you on this Milestone.
Petition to contact Tango and Impulse and do a mega colab to build this on hermitcraft. It'd be really fun!
You should build this on hermit craft in the gaming district!!!!
That would be amazing, but imagine the pain of trying to collect dozens of the same music disc just to make a single song.
@@CamoCraft109I think skizz has a permit for music discs, but you are right
Mumbo, thanks for finally dancing! It's been a great journey to get here.
DDR in minecraft using redstone? i was not expecting this today
This was such a creative idea. Great video Mumbo.
14:00 You could install a RAM into the system... I think 🤔
just use the discs again
How much Dedotated Wam do you recommend?
@@bradye2588 1 bit for the song and a byte for high score assuming that you can't get a higher score than 256 minus the number of songs, so probably a 2 Byte RAM which has 256 bits of memory
I support the thumbnail change HUGELY
Bravo! This is super cool! Also, I love that Mumbo was lamenting his self-imposed deadline for his base and decided to make this beast in the interim. Definition of a mad lad!
U gotta make this in hermitcraft as a game. ❤❤❤
1:25 he admitted it’s not quite simple!!!
Starlord: *W h a t ?*
@AvaTysonWon you’re bloody mental.
@Blue_Luigi it's a bot. I have to believe it's a bot.
@@curtdammit yeah, I think it’s a bot as well, but I still feel the necessity to pint out what a psychotic person the owner of that bot is.
