The fear of mixed styles looking "bad" has been the bane of my existence. After talking to an artist, recently, he provided an excellent point...If you're happy and confident about your tattoos/how they look, you can do whatever you want because people will know you love it.
This comment might be v weird but I'm going to do my best to explain what I'm trying to say. I've been watching your videos for about a year now, and something about this channel feels almost...homey? I really like how you don't use background music and you don't (or at least you don't seem like you do) put on a front for your audience, like a "UA-cam personality" that is separate from your real one. I also really like how you include us in some of your video topics, and the language you use (for example "our weekly tattoo talk show", "we did a video"). The way you do everything really makes it feel like we're all just hanging out while you also do a good job of presenting the information you have. I hope that made sense. Just wanted to let ya know I appreciate the content.
Also, sidenote - you are 100% the only youtuber whose videos I watch entirely ever single time. You're so interesting, and very relatable. Keep doing you babe!
Your sleeve is one of my favourite sleeves I've ever seen! I think it works so well together! I am working on building my leg sleeve and this helped me with planning that. I definitely would love to see you do a video about you leg! I love your long videos! keep them coming! 😊
hey qcknd, i was wondering if maybe you'd do a tattoo talk tuesday about how skin conditions might affect tattooing? like skin texture and stretch marks?
That would be great! I want to eventually build up my wrist tattoo into a sleeve, but I have slight stretchmarks on my inner arm and wanted to know how that could affect a tattoo or if they can even be tattooed over. And the same with freckles/moles too, that would be so useful!
I have some stretch marks on my inner arms and haven't had any issue with them being tattooed over! My tattoos are line and dot work though, but it hasn't had any effect on the look of them and my artist didn't even bat an eye when doing them!!
I have a tattoo on my hip/thigh & it's COVERED in stretch marks. In my experience those areas hurt a bit more & the stretch marks were puffy during healing. They're totally fine now. Took the ink just as well :) but uh yeah. Hurt a little bit more lol
i remember watching this for the first time 4 years ago when all i had was one tiny rose on my wrist and i thought this patchwork idea was so cool, now i have a full patchwork sleeve 🥺 #growth
that's why i went down the patchwork route, i have a mix of tradition, neo traditional and blackwork and i started off with a big £300 one on the outside of my upper arm. i've almost done with upper arm half sleeve but i recently 'jumped the elbow' lol with a big squid covering almost from wrist to elbow on the inside of my arm. my tattoos are fairly spaced out without it looking like they have random gaps between. all of my tattoos are either all black or black and red so they look cohesive.
I'm definitely going to be creating a "patchwork sleeve", I only have one tattoo on my arm so far (it's fairly large ish but it's on the inside of my arm) and I think that's the way I want to go because a) I want to collect art from multiple artists and b) I have so many tattoos I want that I want to be able to have the space for them
i love how you're not afraid to say you think your tattoos look badass, i hope one day to have that kind of confidence. even if it is redundant i think a leg tattoo vid would be killer!
this basically just reinforced my tattoo goals, and tastes in regards to how I envision my body looking when I get to wherever I'm going. Totally agree with how space makes your tattoos more legible and always wondered if that was just me or if other people felt that way too.
I love the color cohesion in your tattoos because i feel it connects the dif styles. And the spaces make it seem more modern to me somehow? Idk i love your arm
It was cool to see all your tattoos on your arm BUT I liked even more that you mentioned about what kind of tattoos you should get where, like if you really like something don't put it there because it's hidden. That's good for me to consider, I don't know if I ever get my whole arm covered with tattoos but at least I'll get some on arm and I want my fav ones to be seen by myself and others. I've started to watch your videos & I really like your TTT videos & other tattoo related videos, keep it going! :)
I just got home from my first tattoo. I’ve had the idea for years but kept dragging my feet due to a fear of needles. In the time I’ve been thinking about it though I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I just thought I’d say thanks for the information/encouragement over the years.
I love that your videos flow so well, and that you aren't constantly cutting out snippets like most youtubers. It's really relaxing and comfortable to watch
I love the way your hair is fading out! Do you know which colour you are going to do next? The Lime Crime ones? Will you ever go green again? Keep killin it girl
my favorite part of this was the parting "and if you fuck up- laser removal" comment. that makes this whole tattoo-self-doubt-permanence-thing a little easier, and hearing it from you is exactly what i needed. so thanks.
Wendy J. Oh yeah. Totally on the same page. It's pretty bold of her to speak so openly about it, though, in a space where it's """sacrilege""" (and widely, always has been)
I've never commented on a UA-cam video before, but I love watching your videos. I don't have many other people I know who have tattoos or even understand the appeal of them, so it's really lovely seeing you and hearing your stories. you are so welcoming of everyone and I feel like a part of something when watching your channel. I currently only have 3 tattoos but am wanting to build them up into a leg sleeve and would love to see a video on your leg sleeve!
I'm currently working on my sleeve. It's a consecutive watercolor-esque cherry blossom branch with monarchs mixed with the blossoms. You're so right about having the money for a consecutive sleeve though! I'm being really patient with mine, but I know I'm going to love the outcome of it once I get through all the sessions.
i love your cardinal flower tattoo, reminds me of Polish folk art in a way, really speaks to me. It's beautiful :) Also I know you said the handshake is "filler" but i think it's really interesting and the placement just seems like a perfect fit.
As someone who is just starting to build their own arm sleeve, this is incredibly helpful! I've been a viewer for a while now, and though I already had a couple small pieces when I began watching your videos, your sleeve inspired me to start my own and to choose to build it entirely in the traditional style. A leg video would be awesome as I'd love to see the individual pieces that make up your legs, and I'm also hoping to start my own leg pieces soon!
Going with the small trinket tattoos can kinda look weird once you aquired like ten of them on a arm. My boyfriend is a tattooer and constantly is covering these small images to make a full sleeve. And not to mention the small tattoos are the most expensive in the shop.... you can get ten small tattoos for $1,000, or set up a consult for a sleeve and spend about the same. I always go for bigger peices! And I am so happy with my choices! But of course it is your body so do whatever you like:)
Coreless cotton and flat braid wicks give off less smoke, Bath and Bodyworks candles generally have cotton wicks which is why they aren't setting off your fire alarms. Your OU candle is blackening the rim of the jar with carbon because the flame is too large and is depriving itself of oxygen. Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch or switch to a candlewarmer to minimize maintenance.
Rain shoes!! I had no idea you had a rain shoes tattoo. Super awesome. I'm working on building a tattoo sleeve, so this video came at just the right time in my life. Thank you so much for explaining your arm 'real estate' and which spots you can enjoy vs. what others can see.
I'm in the process of building a patchwork sleeve and I feel like I'm at a really vital moment when it comes to placement and everything and this video was so so helpful. Thank you!!
Thank you Qcknd, this was actually so helpful. I'm trying to build up my left arm and honestly had no idea how to go about it. Do one on your Leg sleeve next!
Great video. I sort of unintentionally started a patchwork sleeve a few years back. I found an artist that I liked, got a few tattoos from him, saying it was going to be a traditional sleeve. But then I had the opportunity to move abroad. I've just passed the point where I can really get exactly what I want on this arm. Just awkward gaps to fill. At wish I'd planned it better but I really love getting a tattoo that "caps off" an area as you say. Watching it all come together.
I remember, just over a year ago, watching your tattoo talk Tuesday videos before getting my first tattoo. They've always been extremely helpful and entertaining. Thank you, Qcknd. 🙏🏻
i'm doing the same thing you did with my sleeves, i started from the top and went down through the arm. since i'd like to collect good artists the styles are a bit different but not too much, it goes from traditional to new traditional and i like the variety it creates. i'm also doing the "one sleeve colors, one sleeve black and grey" and leaving my legs mixed in styles an colors.
I totes relate to getting the "irresponsible spending" train. As soon as I started working I threw 25% of my salary into getting tattoos. They are things that affirm me and make me feel good about my body so I will never see it as a waste. (it also helps that I still live and get fed by my mother)
and with the talk about mixing styles, I agree having them on separate areas is easier. my left arm will most likely continue to be only black and grey, maybe even sticking to the dotwork shading of my current one there. My right sleeve is going to be full elaborate color, that'll be the magnum opus of my body really.
When I was in my early 20s, I was a poor uni student who spent all my money on food and books. How you'd have money for tattoos I have no idea. I didn't get to start on my sleeve until I'm 29 after having a stable enough job.
I love how your like saying that neotraditional style upper arm Tattoo and the oldschool horsehoe are distinguishly different. Colourlywise and in sense of boldness, imagery jadajada your Tattoos go so well together honestly.
I too, would be interested in a leg sleeve video. I just started working on a Traditional/American Traditional leg sleeve. I'm planning on doing it somewhat similarly to how you've built your arm. The only real difference is I started with a huge clipper ship on the front center of my thigh and I'm going to wrap the rest of the top half in "smaller" flash pieces and little one off guys. I thought this video was pretty cool and I really love a lot of the images you have and the style! Great video!
How do you feel about hand tattoos. I'm looking at getting my hand tattooed this year and was searching for videos on hand tattoos and didn't see any where you have talked about this. Of you have please could you link it? I have most of my arms tattood and my upper chest. So my next plan is my hands. I notice you don't have any on your hands so I was just wondering if you are planning on hand tattoos in the future?
I really loved this video since this is actually exactly a topic I've been thinking about for a while now. I see so many people (yourself included) with really cool "patchwork" sleeves, and I've been trying to figure out how to build one myself. Thanks for talking about this!!
Yea I got my first tattoo as the shoulder patch then waited 5 years(that my mom paid for as a congratulations for quitting smoking)and now I'm in the middle of getting a half-sleeve on my forearm and can't wait to get it finished
This video was so helpful! I have a few tattoos but want to start working on my arm and definitely like the idea of 'patchwork'. I have one nice sized one already on my arm and it was nice hearing you validate some thoughts about placement and content and make me think of things I hadn't yet. Love your videos!!!
just wanna say I always love your videos! always look forward to sitting down with a cup of tea and listening to you chat about stuff (especially tattoos!) great job girl!
this is so well timed yesss, i just got the first piece in my first sleeve, which is gonna be all black and grey/blackwork pieces... doing a monochrome sleeve on my left arm has been my longest thought about project for sure, but im playing it by ear/desire in terms of what each individual piece will be. i love patchwork sleeves too, i think when theyre well placed the look of having lots of distinctly separate tattoos with some space between them is super cool and i really like the sort of "palm sized" to "open hand sized" range that pieces in these types of sleeves usually are. you should definitely do a video on your legs just to offer more stories and insight!! you did a great job here of being detailed about how certain size, placement, style, and even order decisions affected your sleeve building process and it helped a lot with thinking about where to go from here. plus i think your sleeve is really good and it was just cool to get a bit of a closer look at some of the individual pieces!
Woah it's a sign this popped up in my recommended today, the last few days I've been struggling to think up how I'm going to work on my 'patch work' sleeve and this may help!!
This video gave me so much hope. I have a few tattoos on my lil baby sleeve and I was so scared about filling the spaces because the placement was weird but my journey isn’t too much different than yours. My sleeve will be beautiful and perfect just like I hoped it would :,)
It’s funny, I remember watching this in 2017 and going... first visible tattoo? But you’ve got upper arm ones they’re all visible. Now with my backpiece and both legs to the knee done I’ve also got the back of my upper arm & inside covered and I’m like- true, totally true below the elbow is the visible tattoo area, everything else is able to be covered really easily. It’s great advice, definitely don’t ignore it!
Wow this video was so helpful. I was going to get my first tattoo recently and I knew I wanted it on my arm, I knew I wanted it above my elbow, but after that I was kind of lost. I'm so happy that you sort of pointed out which spots are good for larger tattoos, which spots are "secrets", and which ones would be good to have for you to not really see but other people can see.
Would you ever get a shoulder cap tattoo? I love your freckled shoulders and I think it's nice to have them as is but I've been wondering if you'd ever get one. On the other hand I do think it'd look good and extend the sleeve a bit.
I started my sleeve by impulsively wanting a floral sleeve. So I started with the bottom half of my arm outlined, then shortly before be appointment is decided to have a phoenix incorporated. It took me a year to pay for it but I got my entire arm outlined and oh my God it was the best tattoo choice I've ever made!
The fear of mixed styles looking "bad" has been the bane of my existence. After talking to an artist, recently, he provided an excellent point...If you're happy and confident about your tattoos/how they look, you can do whatever you want because people will know you love it.
The best part of this video, hands down, was all of the "bloop" noises she made for spaces between tattoos
This comment might be v weird but I'm going to do my best to explain what I'm trying to say. I've been watching your videos for about a year now, and something about this channel feels almost...homey? Sara I completely agree. Homey is the perfect way of describing the feeling I get when I watch her videos.
Yes! This is why I love Qcknd's content. It feels like I'm watching one cohesive monologue. And the lack of jumpcuts
Sara I think I feel like this too. I really like listening to Qcknd, she seems cool, and I like the long videos
Sara
i agree with you completely
I get what you mean. It kinda feels like you're just sitting listening to an old pal chatting
Also, sidenote - you are 100% the only youtuber whose videos I watch entirely ever single time. You're so interesting, and very relatable. Keep doing you babe!
I think the way your sleeve is neither a strictly "cohesive sleeve" nor a "trinket sleeve" is what makes it especially haphazardly wonderful!
Your sleeve is one of my favourite sleeves I've ever seen! I think it works so well together! I am working on building my leg sleeve and this helped me with planning that. I definitely would love to see you do a video about you leg! I love your long videos! keep them coming! 😊
Just finished my cohesive sleeve! 2000$ later, 5 sessions and a year later! Phew! Aaaaand now I'm thinking about the next ones I want 😂
i've been watching your videos for about a year and a half now, and this is the first time i think i've seen your rain shoes tattoo!!
Emily Hankins Same!!! I've watched for quite some time and I didn't even know she had that one, it's really cute !
Emily Hankins same!!
hey qcknd, i was wondering if maybe you'd do a tattoo talk tuesday about how skin conditions might affect tattooing? like skin texture and stretch marks?

How stretch marks and scars affect tattoos!
I have a tattoo on my hip/thigh & it's COVERED in stretch marks. In my experience those areas hurt a bit more & the stretch marks were puffy during healing. They're totally fine now. Took the ink just as well :) but uh yeah. Hurt a little bit more lol
Would love to see a leg building video!!
This is sooooo much better than a "tattoo tour" video, yet still, satiates my couriositys. I'd love to see a similar video on your leg! thanks mom
i remember watching this for the first time 4 years ago when all i had was one tiny rose on my wrist and i thought this patchwork idea was so cool, now i have a full patchwork sleeve 🥺 #growth
HOLY SHIT I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT HOW I WANT TO GO ABOUT BUILDING MY SLEEVE

CourtneyAlice SAME! Amanda is psychic 😂
CourtneyAlice me too! When I saw the title today I was like "GUURRLL you read my mind! I needed this!"

Same here! I'm all about mixing styles
thanks for naming it! I've been trying to figure out the name for weeks. Exactly what I want, a blend of different styles
Awesome but not a full sleeve if it doesnt connect.
This video was so great for someone like me who is looking forward to getting a sleeve, but has no idea where to start!
i love how you're not afraid to say you think your tattoos look badass, i hope one day to have that kind of confidence. even if it is redundant i think a leg tattoo vid would be killer!

I just got home from my first tattoo. I’ve had the idea for years but kept dragging my feet due to a fear of needles. In the time I’ve been thinking about it though I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I just thought I’d say thanks for the information/encouragement over the years.
The sound she makes when explaining her filler at 19:16 is just hilarious :D
try writing it out! haha! that one took me a couple minutes and slow motion to figure out for captions!
Yes! I'm fading out my hair so I can do a first impressions. It's crazy how my hair is just turning like, white? lol. ilu

my favorite part of this was the parting "and if you fuck up- laser removal" comment. that makes this whole tattoo-self-doubt-permanence-thing a little easier, and hearing it from you is exactly what i needed. so thanks.
like, just the fact that you are actively trying to end that stigma is a voice that this community rly needs
heyitssea correct, but not everyone can afford laser removal, so for a lot of people it's not that easy tho :/
Wendy J. Oh yeah. Totally on the same page. It's pretty bold of her to speak so openly about it, though, in a space where it's """sacrilege""" (and widely, always has been)
I’ve watched this video every time I start to plan a new tattoo to add to my own “patch work sleeve.” Absolutely love it, thank you so much
I've never commented on a UA-cam video before, but I love watching your videos.
I have my appointments booked to get my sleeve done this winter and I'm so excited! :) I went the all one image route haha.
woop woop! i know this is late but what are you getting?? id love to hear all about it!!!!!!
Perfect timing as I am building up a patchwork sleeve and had questions!
i love your cardinal flower tattoo, reminds me of Polish folk art in a way, really speaks to me. It's beautiful :) Also I know you said the handshake is "filler" but i think it's really interesting and the placement just seems like a perfect fit.
I love the colors in the heart/flower on your wrist. Every time I get a peek of it, I'm like "oh wow, nice".
I asked this exact question and this is so helpful. just started my leg sleeve and I would love to see a leg video.
I'd love to see your leg tattoos!!! my biggest regret is putting my favorite tattoo on the back of my arm
Going with the small trinket tattoos can kinda look weird once you aquired like ten of them on a arm. My boyfriend is a tattooer and constantly is covering these small images to make a full sleeve. Your work is all around great! Don’t ever doubt that.

Rain shoes!! I had no idea you had a rain shoes tattoo. Super awesome. I'm working on building a tattoo sleeve, so this video came at just the right time in my life. Thank you so much for explaining your arm 'real estate' and which spots you can enjoy vs. what others can see.
I have my first tattoo on my left arm next week, so excited!!
You are glowing since moving into your new place. You can def tell you are happier. You are so adorable. There's some good advice in this video too.
This is exactly what I needed! I'm planning my own sleeve and am always looking for others peoples experiences. 🖤 you the best queen
I'm in the process of building a patchwork sleeve and I feel like I'm at a really vital moment when it comes to placement and everything and this video was so so helpful. Thank you!!
Loved this one (what else is new?)! I'd love to see a leg video!!!
p.s. SERIOUSLY love your sleeve.
You seem so happy, I'm so glad xxx
I love how honest you are! And yes a leg one too please!
The sound effects in this were so cute omg 💕
I agree with you on the above elbow back of the arm tattoo. Hardly anyone ever notices mine really.
I could tell there was something where your rain boots are but had no clue what they were. Love knowing it now, it's so cool looking.
Thank you Qcknd, this was actually so helpful. I'm trying to build up my left arm and honestly had no idea how to go about it. Do one on your Leg sleeve next!

glad i'm not the only one that's been wondering about that lil butterfly tattoo.
Your sleeve is beautiful. Love the colors!
I would totally love a leg video :) It is always nice to hear about your opinions!
i can’t wait to get a sleeve! it’s gonna be so bright and traditional
the horseshoe is the sickest! i absolutely love it

Loving the traditional style! You are so rad!
your tattoo Tuesday vids are so helpful!! thanks for all of your tips!
I enjoy your videos. You have helped me decided finally what i want for a sleeve.
just wanna say I always love your videos! always look forward to sitting down with a cup of tea and listening to you chat about stuff (especially tattoos!) great job girl!
I love your tats and your hair color, and I also like your advice
this is so well timed yesss, i just got the first piece in my first sleeve, which is gonna be all black and grey/blackwork pieces... doing a monochrome sleeve on my left arm has been my longest thought about project for sure, but im playing it by ear/desire in terms of what each individual piece will be. i love patchwork sleeves too, i think when theyre well placed the look of having lots of distinctly separate tattoos with some space between them is super cool and i really like the sort of "palm sized" to "open hand sized" range that pieces in these types of sleeves usually are.
you should definitely do a video on your legs just to offer more stories and insight!! you did a great job here of being detailed about how certain size, placement, style, and even order decisions affected your sleeve building process and it helped a lot with thinking about where to go from here. plus i think your sleeve is really good and it was just cool to get a bit of a closer look at some of the individual pieces!
That sleeve is Soo cool. It's not my style, I have a different style , but yours is gorgeous!
You should definitely do a TTT about how you did your leg sleeve! I'm starting mine this summer and need tips! please and thank you!
I love the little sound effects she makes
That is so awesome! Thanks for sharing. Definitely do a leg video.
I'm so happy that you sort of pointed out which spots are good for larger tattoos, which spots are "secrets", and which ones would be good to have for you to not really see but other people can see.
i love all of your arm tattoos!!!
Do the leg vid!!!! Im excited!!!
I would super want to see a leg video too!!
Saluts from Honduras!
Thank you for mentioning your opinion on the inner arm tattoos, makes so much sense not to put your most favorite design there. Love you
Would you ever get a shoulder cap tattoo? I love your freckled shoulders and I think it's nice to have them as is but I've been wondering if you'd ever get one. On the other hand I do think it'd look good and extend the sleeve a bit.
loooove seeing episodes where we can see the progression of a tattoo collection! so satisfying somehow 😍
boi i never hit a notification so quick
this tattoo talk tuesday is so relevant to me im so happy and your hair looks so cute
