I'm saving this video for after my dinner but I got my first tattoo 33 years ago and it still looks great! I'm not claiming it's perfect but it looks great for its age!
@mogambo2445 yeah, traditional does hold up well because of the thick outlines and pretty basic layout, but all the lines in that tatto will be fuzzy. There's no two ways about it.
Dude, I know nothing about tattoos and I am a blank campus, but this video is so interesting. I honestly had very little idea that tattoos aged differently than other tattoos
I agree about the black outline. I just got a new tattoo and in my very first message to the artist I asked for full-color with a black outline. On the day of the appointment, I felt she was unprepared. She had to ask if I wanted color or B&W, so I reminded her I wanted color, then after she was done, I took a look at the tattoo and was shocked to see it had NO OUTLINE whatsoever. I had her go back in and add one, because there was no way I was walking out like that.
I'm waiting to see those embroidery patch tattoos when they get older. I think they're really cool, and as someone who collects patches, would like to get one. But I think that they probably don't age well. A lot of fine lines and highlights that I can see fading out.
“Obviously that’s a pile of shit.” 😂😂 bro first video I’ve ever seen of yours and I subscribed. Good video. And ur unintentionally funny af. Love the video brother.
My friend recommended this channel and it's been so informative. I am learning a lot like not to be too obsessed with aftercare, picking the right colors, outlines, and even hospitality that'll make the tattooers job much easier. Also, now I am going for it because I am a slimmer guy trying to get muscle, your words in previous videos saying I'll be fine really helped 😊❤
Well, some people like my 1st / 30yrs old tats the best. Sure, the lines have blurred a bit, but the stuff sticks. Actually, that was part of the reason why I fell back into getting tattooed again after 20yrs. Dear greetings from a 60+ yrs old German fan of your show. Luv your work. Get that community! 😉👍
being form the East coast of Canada I've seen a lot of guys from the navy/sailors who have old tattoos, I love the look of them. I once saw this guy, he must've been 80 covered in sailor tattoos in front of a ice cream parlour called Moo Moos when I was a kid, that guy inspired me to be interested in tattoos not my instagram feed
This is why I went for black ink only for my tats. It takes the longest to fade **and** is easiest to remove should future me decide he hates them (which seems unlikely, but I haven't met the guy, so...)
@@daveybeuy A elderly neighbour has a tat he had done in 1964 while in the Navy. It's still looking pretty good. It's in stark black in ink and hasn't turned bluish-green as sometimes happens. I think it depends on the composition of the ink.
I only have American traditional tattoos with the exception of a Japanese dragon head on my leg from a flash event. They all still look pretty much brand new. Bold will hold.
I have a collar rocker that's almost 20 years old and still looks great. It's big script lettering, shading is still saturated and lines still look clean. I really lucked out, as it was my first tattoo and I didn't know much about tattoos at the time.
I really hope your channel blows up! You’re really amazing! Haha my sleeve looks like crap now. It’s over 20 years old and blah… looked bad when he laid it on and looks awful now. I’d love to get your opinion for options for it! That would rule
New sub, no tattoos but hooked on tattoo content. Is 44 too late to start 😆 I’ve always wanted a really big back piece, one over my shoulder into the centre of my back. Nothing else, just the one. Everyone with Tatts I’ve ever told has suggested starting smaller, but I don’t want some silly little tattoo as a trial, I only want the one thing and will look for an amazing artist that specialises in the style I want to hopefully have it go well. Any thoughts ?
I thanks for your content. Also love the longer vids. I would have really liked to know for each tattoo for how long they were healed in the second picture :)
Most of my tattoos are traditional, neo traditional or irezumi. I’m not at all worried about them again. Most of them are 10 years old and looking really strong. There are too many artists tattooing styles that will not hold up.
What's your opinion about "blackout" tattoos, but with colors? So... I want to get my right leg tattooed with tradicional tattooes and I want a blue "background" for it. Is it a good idea? (Sorry for my bad english)
I just got a tattoo today and my tattooist told me to wear cling film for 24-7 for the first 7 days apart from when I clean it twice a day. Does this doing right
The way you say "peony" cracks me up.. and i hear a lot of people saying it like this all the time.. but its "Pee-uh-nee" not "pee-oh-nee" lol Love your vids though!
14:5519:50 Not everything has to last 30 years. It’s perfectly fine to get delicate colors or whatever with the understanding that you’ll probably need to get it touched up every once in a while. You have no idea what that person wanted or expected. What if they don’t like black outlines? I’d rather have a tattoo I like that I have to touch up than a tattoo I dislike that sticks around forever.
I don’t really agree with the assessment with the floral ones. I feel like you’re looking at it expecting it to look like a traditional tattoo. They are flowers. They’re meant to be soft. I don’t think people get them expecting them to look anything but delicate.
I grew up with my sister (16 years dif) she is a tattoo artist with 20+ years experience now. Somehow, still dont have a tatoo at 34, but i drew one, its on my wall, adore it, real glad i never got it done now, i can definetely see how bad it would of aged, i should outline more and maybe make some hight black shading in some places, the drawing itself, has a nice balance of not too much details but still detailed... i should redraw it.... maybe one day ill get it done... or not.

the “seeing the sun often” comment kind of bothers me, because why get tattoos if you’re not gonna wear sunscreen/sunblock when you’re in the sun to keep them healthy and colorful? i’ve got some yellow in a ghost face tattoo and granted i haven’t had it for a while but i haven’t noticed any fading.

every time I consider getting a tattoo in a style that may not age well, I think to myself "BOLD WILL HOLD"
It’s not about bold, it’s about contrast.

I bet you do brother! Good tattoos should hold out for the long haul
I highly doubt that!

"What's the difference between a moon and a cookie?" - Kirk Fagan 🤣
I laughed at that, too.
I've spent weeks thinking about getting a no-outline color tattoo... aaaaand I think this video changed my mind. Thanks for keeping it real. 👏
Solid black outlines means you can always get it touched up after a few years, even by a different artist.

That fine line/pointillism tattoo you showed first actually healed insanely nice.
Not usually into stuff like that but it looked real slick healed.
