Apple is the world’s biggest tech company and they compete with the likes of Sony and Microsoft in a number of product categories including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and wireless headphones. But one market that Apple hasn’t formally entered is gaming. Sony sells the Playstation, Microsoft sells the Xbox, but Apple has never created a modern gaming console. And this has left many people wondering why. After all, gaming consoles are essentially just computers, and Apple is in the computer business, so what’s stopping them from releasing their own game system? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to find out.
Thanks to Squarespace for sponsoring this video! - Наука та технологія
I’d like to add that while game consoles don’t raise much revenue on their own, game console makers make the majority of their revenue from game sales.
And online services like Xbox live, PS gold
Prateek Panwar ps plus
Happy 100 likes... I was the 100th liker
Thanks for adding this. In fact, consoles are sold at a loss, otherwise they would probably cost double what sell for now.

Did u even see the video?? He did mention it! And it sucked anyway. They just have not made a modern one...

@MAma Luigi but does it even count tho

They did make collab with Bandai for the Pippin, while ahead of its time, it failed because of the price and lack of games if any.
And the marketing was extremely poor. I didn't know the thing existed until years later.
Yeah the price for the Pippin was too much. Sony and Microsoft already take a loss on their hardware. Apple would have to do the same to be competitive, and that’ll never happen
Thank god they hadn't made a console because they would sell the controller separately!

Please do a video on why Apple hasn’t released different colors of the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro
Who cares about something so small as that, they would probably look like fake AirPods or something, there are so many waaaaaaaay bigger things in the world to worry about than that
The easy answer brand recognition if you were different airpod colors no one will recognized instead of white according to apple
The reasons why the ipod headphones were white is because back in the day most headphones were black guess that's why Apple don't wanna to make black or red ones
Far better idea for Apple to just double down on App Store/Game Center/Arcade for gaming and optimize iOS and their hardware (cpu cooling/power consumption) to be better suited to gaming.
Otherwise just wait until bandwidth gets better and do some kind of streaming gaming thing.
Greg: Why Apple hasn't made a gaming console
Apple TV: Hold my Apple Arcade
Cool that you mentioned Nintendo. Side note: in FY2018 Nintendo made around 11 to 12 billion dollars in revenue. Also, during the Wii U era, they had only one year where they had a net loss instead of net profit. If you want to, I can give you all the net profit numbers from 2009 till 2018. And no, a console game wouldn’t sell on a smartphone. The freemium approach counts in for over 90% of all the revenue that’s made on mobile devices and that’s a lot. The entire video games industry has a revenue of around $125 billion worldwide in this year. About 50 to 60% of this high number is generated by mobile games.
Wii U was a colossal flop
@@tron5607 That’s correct. The Wii U was a flop. Nevertheless Nintendo only suffered one fiscal year ending in a net loss.
What's a "console game" for mobile devices? Because even call of duty advertises itself as a "the experiences from consoles now on mobile devices". Fortnite and genshin impact are pretty much the same game as well and they are some with the highest revenue.

It could have been a large success, along with thre dual console/pc set up another neat feature is it was region free while every other console to this day are either ntsc or pal. They also had Halo, but that was sold to Microsoft for their up and coming Xbox

Meh. I'm already using a Razer Phone 2 so yes. I dumped my iPhone 10s max honestly.

@@ritzkola2302 oh I returned it for my money back lul
I mean every game still runs flawless on both bionic 12 and 13 Iphones, those chips are too damn fast. Shit like Razer is way overkill when it comes to mobile gaming.
Wait for the Snapdragon 865. Definitely gonna be the fastest chipset Out there.
You know, iPhone with the Backbone One controller has loads of potential for what a smart-portable console could be. I mean, the iPhone 11, which was released in 2019, can smoothly run Oceanhorn 2, and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and it has the same amount of RAM as the Switch. Imagine if Apple had more controller compatible games on Apple Arcade, and the App Store in general, imagine if they worked out the kinks in Remote Play to guarantee a much smoother experience, imagine if they worked with Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation much more closely to ensure a smoother experience for all people who love portable gaming, but find the Switch's library limiting, or find the Switch uncomfortable to hold with the regular Joy-Con.
They have to make a (sleek, nice-looking, homekit-compatible, iCloud storaged) security line.
*Security cams*
(Facial recognition connected to Face-ID from familymembers, via bluethooth like the Airpods the security cam knows who passed by even without seeing the face simply by passing by with iPhone, AppleWatch etc.)
*Tags*
(Tells if doors or windows are open. Via bluetooth the tags see who passed by)
*Smart-lock*
(Easily open and close doors and windows via Apple Watch, iPhone etc.)
*Doorbell*
(Could give iPhones, HomePods etc. give a 2nd use as a doorbell. They can integrate FaceTime with the doorbell)
*Home App*
(Apple could make a “Family” app or connect Family with the Home app. You can see who is at home, send easy push-notifs, etc.)
4:39 Color Splash is actually a great game, though!
Types of gaming console I need sir and which is the best to play
smooth squarespace transition
I think ocean Horn 2 is as close to a console game we have right now on Apple Arcade. It’s actually beautiful and really good! Minus it feeling like a Zelda rip.
I always thought that the apple tv should have that role, but now with Apple Arcade, any apple product will deliver almost the same experience
If apple tv supported 3th party controllers from the beginning, it would’ve had a strong gaming position now imo.
No one wants to play candy Crush on tv
@@RandomUser-tj3mg iOS has way better games than that.
It’s a pity console quality games are not yet migrating to iOS. Because strictly from cpu/gpu power alone, modern iPhones are competing with some of the consoles on the market today. I’m sure iPhone 11 tramps Nintendo Switch in ability to push high end graphics. Hopefully, introduction of Apple Arcade and controller support in iOS 13 would change that tide. I would love, for example to be able to play Witcher or resident evil on my iPad and iPhone.
Iphones are not competing with consoles they are a whole different market lol
Introducing the iconsole. Battery, display, cable, adapter, controller all sold separately for just $599! Assembly requires iscrews and iscrewdriver which both also cost $599.

I want it say it has a lot to do with the the fact that there aren’t a lot of games that could compete with other consoles. App Store doesn’t have a lot of apps that can compete and therefore it wouldn’t be a good idea for them to make a console
Apple: has no gaming consoles
Also apple: has a 1996 consoles
Explained perfectly👌
Is it the first time I’m seeing the Squarespace ad during the middle of a video😂😂
This comment might be a little controversial but in a way, the Apple TV 4K is like a game console. (Granted very limited by only having mobile titles)
I see it as a games console because with the introduction of Apple Arcade you do have a reasonably big games library and with it supporting PS and Xbox controllers it more or less behaves like one.
I mean, it’s nowhere near competing with the top dogs but the Apple TV is essentially a rebrand, dedicated GPU, better non-passive cooling and a few agreements with top game developers away from being a game console.
Of course there’s still the need for a disk drive or a bigger onboard storage /expansions store your games.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that the Apple TV is in a unique position where it could be made into a dedicated games console if Apple Chose to do it. It pretty much has the bare bones of one.
So my android phone with controller support and hdmi support is also a game console? Because it can emulate a lot of games so is my phone a game console or not?
Apple easily could have put out consoles. I always thought that the reasoning goes all the way back to the Apple II. That Apple would not put out a console because it was serious about computers. They didn't want to be viewed as a gaming company. They built personal computers - that was their vision. It distinguished them from lets say Atari, which did have consoles, and home computers and consoles powered by the guts of their computers. Atari was a video game company. Apple was a personal computer company.
They're not personal computers if you can't customize and mod it like Windows and Linux.
@@Elwood128 yeah :(
@@Elwood128 It's called a shitty personal computer 😂
This logic kind of fails though, as nobody calls Microsoft a "gaming company".
After watching this video I think you should make a channel where you talk about nintendo stuff.
(This is not a criticism about you talking about nintendo, I think it's a really cool idea)
3:14 I'm a serious gamer. I have an iPhone and a MacBook(well, I also have a PC)
Alright your claim that Apple can’t enter the console market because they will not make the same money as the iPhone or HomePod is complete crap. Sony and Microsoft aren’t making that much money on hardware sales, they are making money on the SOFTWARE and exclusive games/experiences you get on them.
andykillsu yeah he only focused on hardware sales and didn’t factor in things like online memberships and all that u mentioned or accessories for the console
I think the fact that he only focused on hardware sales kinda makes this video pointless, profit margins in hardware sales pale in comparison to software exclusives and memberships
Good vid!
Apple pretty much has a console with the Apple TV. If in a future revision and/or update adds a party system where you can form parties, text, and invite your friends to join your games it basically be a console. The only argument that it wouldn’t be would be that the TV box wouldn’t come with a controller made by Apple.
The kinda sounds like he has a cold, hope he'll get better soon 💕
Inky uwu exactly
Apple makes video game console
Also apple: doesn't put Controller and cables in box*
I am confused if they actually made a console what would they sell separately?

The Apple TV has playable games, but that doesn't mean it's a game console.
Well i have a mac pro 5,1 and i am not a huge gamer, i like the gaming experience on my machine using windows, its fast and very stable, i think this is the only mac adequate for gaming, a tower mac pro that can be upgraded with any video card for example.
And then there is me on a Wii U
Ahh the Wii U, a great console that deserved so much more attention. F&CK YOU NINTENDO MARKETING TEAM!
To be honest though, the new iMacs and MacBook Pros (and Mac Pro) with AMD Radeon graphics cards are more than capable to run most games on PC at ultra settings.
@MattsNotBanned_ why not
@MattsNotBanned_ but what about steam? You can use steam with mac right?
1. The mac pro vega gpu isnt really capable at gaming as you can just use 1 of the gpu chips for games. And even then without the proper driver support it will do worse than a radeon vii or 5700 xt. 2. Most games wont work on ios anyway. Macs arent for gaming. Every console is better at that. Apple doesnt want to be asociated with gaming anyway
Yes that's right, just install windows with bootcamp and you are ready to play on your Mac... In that way you work on Mac OS and play on windows... Perfect balance...
@@therealsteel1634 Steam is, But games them selves and drivers aren't. Even they refused Nvidia for supporting their old products.
Held my attention to that annoying advertisement right in the middle, closed video at 5:08
@Remy but most people got annoyed by long sponsor areas if it is in the middle. they don't feel like skipping it because of short attention spans and close the video. that is an example of a poor implementation of a sponsor segment, where it lasts too long for something that viewers don't watch to see or watch.
Because console manafacturers sell their consoles at a loss
@james smith They get profit from software and accessories
@james smith what? What's misleading?
Not in Nintendo's case as they generally sell their hardware at a gain.
Apple can make a games console but it needs to be compatible with iOS, be hand held, use an ARM CPU and take calls like an iPhone...

Apple Explain could you do a video about what happen to the Color Rose Gold?
The Apple explained guy doesn’t get that the Switch got less revenue because it was priced less, since it’s meant to be priced that low, due to the value of the parts.
But also they mostly make the revenue from games mostly, especially since the start of the 7th generation of consoles, most of them costed 10-20% less of the retail price to make 1 system, which still does go down over time.
Plus Nintendo was more focused on making this system great, so it would sell tons of systems, which more systems means more people to buy the games on their systems.
Apple is very unique the developers is where it’s all at Apple can easily be in the gaming field in no time but I keep my do I dare say premonition if they could team up with Nintendo in some type of way what an advantage that would be for Apple
dawg u need grammerly
3:00 yeah
no matter how smoothly you transition into an ad, I'll always skip past it. Put it at the end...
8:32 If they could implement Xbox One and PS4 controller support, Apple can also implement Nintendo Switch Joy-Con/Pro Controller support. I mean, just like the controllers of his competitors, Nintendo implemented Bluetooth into the controllers I’m mentioning. However, they would have a problem: every Joy-Con has to be implemented individually, being very limited for advanced games. That’s why it’s possible to connect them to Windows and Android, but only use one of two. And even still: macOS CAN connect to those Nintendo Controllers, but again: we can only use one at any given time.
Just use your pro controller
NO mario games for ios: then explain super mario run

@@Genebear2Gaming chill out bruh 🤣
I think it's because of privacy and security, since some games breaking through the operating systems to offer cool experiences.
Even if it isn't lucrative. Apple no longer have a gateway product really anymore, safe for except perhaps maybe the Apple Watch, but you generally would have an iPhone if you purchased that. The iPad is still very affordable. But something like a gaming device that was around the same price as an Apple TV I think would get people into the 'ecosystem'. And seeing as they are going down this Apple Arcade route it seems a natural progression to beef up from just casual gaming.
I think this is where they should use the iPod touch...give it the latest specs and make it a dedicated gaming device...Which can compliment the Apple Arcade
They haven't because the console wouldn't power on from time to time,it would overheat and die in less than a year. Then, just like the Mac Book Pros,it would have to turn on to be able to use the warranty, which means you would be stiffed.
apple TV 4K can be used as a console and it has A15 and it has a few games like goat simulator.
*Flashbacks to the pinpin*

I feel like you could argue that Apple thinks of the iPhone and iPad as the gaming consoles they already make.
That’s how Apple thinks, just like they don’t think of their Watch as just a smart watch but as a computer on your wrist, and the iPhone as a computer - or console - in your pocket.
Apple isn’t the fourth largest gaming company by chance. appleinsider.com/articles/19/06/19/Apple-is-fourth-largest-gaming-company-globally-thanks-to-the-iphone
I forgot to mention - fourth largest gaming company as of June 2019, and that’s before launching Arcade.
The best thing they could do was to integrate their devices with PlayStation and Xbox, and they’re doing it so far. Now you can connect PS or Xbox controllers to your iOS device and use your Mac as a display for the PS4. That’s more than enough for Apple. They’ve never been into computer gaming so far. But they do the best in the mobile gaming industry. I don’t think Apple should be doing everything, that probably won’t end up well for them.
I think Apple should get game developers to treat the Apple TV and the Mac seriously because they have good hardware in them
I know is late but I want to add something:
In the mobile shooter gaming the iPad is the best option
If they do that it will be called iConsole 😂

Greg, this is a lot of great info about the gaming industry. Personally I am glad Apple, tried this. They could make a wonderful gaming console if they wanted to. It would be beautiful, functional, and get so much flack from the press. Thank you sir for this outlook.
Short answer: they too afraid to make any because Pippin failed.
Exactly.
Their not afraid making it they could and it would do well they are just scared of the press ruining the launch of the product and would probably ruin it like what happened with the HomePod

Sony & Apple should collaborate on design for PS5
No no they should cause then it would be overpriced not have usb ports only outdated lightning ports no disc drive and have a proprietary video port and power cable
KAI1707NL funny, but stupid. lmao
They could make something along the lines of a games console simply by shoving an A13X (an SoC I'm presuming will arrive with the next generation of iPads Pro) into an Apple TV 4K... Call it an Apple TV Pro (as "Pro" simply seems to mean "premium" in the Apple vernacular) rather than give it a gaming-related name, so it wouldn't seem like a one-trick pony; but such a device paired with a wireless Xbox or PlayStation controller would be quite the platform...
2 words: apple pippen....... why no new ones in a nutshell.
Just because a console released 3 decades ago failed is not reason enough. The failure of their old Newton tablet didn't stop them from releasing the very successful iPad line of tablets.
3:10 Nah, a lot of us use Apple Prouducts when it comes to phones. You want the best experience for that particular gadget. No, need to assume.
I used to
apple iPad, iPhone and Macs are already powerful enough. The problem is the Apple Store itself. Apple has to create more incentives for Hardcore games to be ported in its Store (and games that can be purchased and played on its multiple platforms). Apple Arcade is a good deal, they just need Good serious games there.
They'd charge 200 for the controller separately. Have proprietary batteries.
They did, back in 1995
So interesting
If apple added a monitor to the bandai pippin it would've been the worlds first gaming pc!
The reason why the nintendo switch didnt bring in as much revenue as an iphone is the price. 300 dollars for a new console is a lot. But im sure if apple pulls some garbage and makes their own console, it will be more than 300 dollars and it will bring in more yearly revenue. They sell iphones for 1k and sometimes more... Im sure they will sell the console for more than that
