I "think" some of those smaller wires on the F/R switch are for if you want backup lights to come on when its in reverse (1 wire for power & 1 wire out to backup lights (b sure to check voltage of bulbs would imagine mostly 12v, SO: if you have 6x8v batteries, u will need a voltage divider or converter) or simply carry 1 x 12 v battery specifically for that but that entails a separate charger for that 1 - 12v battery. ) . Other small wire switches may go to things like, back up siren, running lights, turn signals, stereo, .. etc.. U might be able to find 8v bulbs for all , would make it easier for sure. Again. b careful of too much voltage on a bulb as it can burn out so easily. (SECRET: a 12v bulb may "Glow" yellow or red enough to be viable with only 8v applied to it... saving you u time and extra work. InventPeaceNotWar
@@InventPeace1 you are probably right. Mine is wired with a hodge podge of wires, like maybe multiple owners in the past did things. I've been trying to get everything straightened out. Oddly my reverse lights will come on even if the key isn't in it, so I'm looking at putting in a relay to switch it to "accessory" power
I have the exact same switch! When switched to reverse it sporadic, I can play with the leaver and it'll move in reverse. I did take the whole thing apart and cleaned it but didn't cure the problem. Im guessing its the switch
Nice VId. Is there a video that whows how to clean the inside contact on the F/R switch. To test the F./R switch if its not melted to the point yours was ? THanks. InventPeaceNotWar
I just change mine out cause both forward and reverse switch burnt out. Replace it, after a 5min test drive the both wiring was hot. Any idea? Helpful video on replacing!
hot as in warm or hot as in melting the plastic around it? Check all the connections and make sure they are tight and check the resistance on the wires and make sure they aren't failing and replace if necessary.
I have a couple videos installing backup cameras on vehicles... the process would be nearly the same except you'd need 12v power so you'd want one of those voltage converters if you have a 36 or 48v electric cart (shown in my lighting for golf cart videos)
I'm having a problem with my reverse. I have the same exact switch but looked at the wires to make sure it's identical. There's a couple colors that are different. So you think it's pretty easy to know which wire to follow? Thanks for the video
@WJHandyDad I have no movement, but still a buzz. I'm hoping it's not the V glide assembly. The New F&R switch comes in the mail tomorrow my fingers are crossed 🤞
@WJHandyDad unfortunately did not work. I know the V glide system isn't producing heat like it normally does. All cables are snug. Unfortunately the motor isn't labeled properly so I can't bench test it. I'm going to try the 36v selonoid perhaps since the V glide system won't get any power if this doesn't work either. The ignition tested fine.
Hi. I have almost the same problem as you. Did you find the problem and fix it? My switch goes easily into Reverse, but will only turn to the Neutral position and not allow me to turn it to the Forward position. It's as if something internally is blocking the switch from moving no matter how hard I try to force it into the Forward position. I have an old EZ-Go. It goes just fine, but, as I stated, I'm unable to turn the handle of the F/R switch to the Forward position. Any thoughts on the subject? Thanks!
sounds like you've got some hot and ground wires that are touching when it is shifted certain ways. I would install some in-line fuses before you do anything else, that way the fuse will blow and disconnect everything.
I have an all original 1983 11E Royal Ride from Augusta Georgia. The forward reverse switch is a bracket went out. The switch has a 4 corner bracket, though every switch I see by club car only has 3. I'd like to keep it all original...but maybe its time for an upgrade? And do you how I go about doing that? Thanks.
Hey man I have a 06 ford crown Victoria police interceptor I have new coil paks , spark plugs and a new intake. The car misfire when I have the AC on and it only misfire when I’m at a constant speed say like 70mph it would misfire. I can drive the car without the AC on at 70mph and it rides smooth. I’m thinking it’s the AC compresser because the AC don’t blow cold like it use to. What u think about it what is your guess??? Please hit me back
sounds like it thinks the "gas pedal" is being pushed. Recheck all your wiring to make sure you didn't put a wire in the wrong place, but beyond that it's probably an electrical problem and beyond diagnosis via messages. Good luck!
I have a 1985 ezgo that is super fast in reverse but super slow in forward. Almost like the reverse speed limit is switched to forward. Is that possible? Or could the F/R switch be a cause to that?
Great video! Thanks for sharing and helping us non-mechanics out.
Jumped right over the small wire and connections? Watched it all to not get what I needed. The big wires were no problem.
glad the video was helpful

Thank you, doing the same project tomorrow morning.
Thank you im working on mine tomorrow, the same problem.
hope it goes well
Awesome, thanks for the video!
Great video thanks
glad it was helpful
is it possible to change these kind of shifters into a switch like modern carts have?
I suppose anything is possible with the right tools and money

yeah, I wasn't able to repair my old one but definitely fixed the problem immediately when I put in the new switch
@@WJHandyDad thanks for the quick response.
Could you just remove the 2 large wires and hold the 2 side by side and replace each small wire one at a time? Seems better to me
you can do it however is easiest for you

I don't have one but that's a good idea.
My club car is gas, but keeps popping out of reverse,
Could it be the same issue?
sorry I don't know, never worked on a gas cart before

How to hook up backup camera on 2001 club car golf cart?

I always put links in the video description: forward reverse switch 48v Club Car DS: amzn.to/30tqqxG

not seeing yours I wouldn't want to speculate
@@WJHandyDad could I have an email address to email you a pic? I feel like the switch will work but want to be certain. Thanks

Is it possible the buzzer makes the reverse sound but this switch is still bad?
I suppose it's possible depending on how everything is wired up

@WJHandyDad it was the 36v selonoid. I replaced it and now the cart goes forward and reverse.
Thank you this happens to my golf cart where can I order it
I have a link to Amazon in the video description, which is where I got mine
My reverse Forward switch is very very hard to move it into reverse!!! What could be the issue with that? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
that's why I replaced mine. I didn't try to diagnose it, just replaced it.

Club car caught fire at shifter. Replaced with new one and it sparks and wants to catch fire also? Im lost

sorry but I've never worked on any golf carts but my own.
Nice work. Gee I hope mine works like that when I get a new switch
Did it worke ??
can this type fwd/reverse switch be swapped for an electric switch? I have a 2001 exgo txt
I don't know. My usual reflex answer to questions like this are anything can be done if you have the money.
Do all the metal pins lift up when is on forward or reverse?
If I'm understanding the question, the pins on mine are all up in neutral and they connect differently in forward and reverse

I have the same problem after messing with the pedal... it only works with the R/N/F switch.. no pedal action.. ever found out the issue?
mines stuck in reverse. you can put it in gear but it only goes in reverse no matter what gear it’s it.
if I had to guess, I'd say the wires aren't hooked up in the right order somewhere. Good luck. Finding electrical problems can be a bear!
Could it also cause the back up sounds to be weak?
I completely disconnected my back up buzzer and replaced it with reverse lights so I don't even have one to test on
Hi can you do a video of houw to do reverse lights I took discunected the buzzing sound

I don't know, sorry. Hopefully one of the viewers has experienced and fixed and can help.
If you can friemd
I replaced the F/R switch and still go about 20mph in reverse and 4mph in forward. I am now thinking its a clutch issue.
@@zerw1pat sounds like your wires going from the switch to the throttle control are backwards. Hope the helps
