Lyrics:
A modern-day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride
Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river
What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift
The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide
Today's Tom Sawyer, he gets high on you
And the space he invades, he gets by on you
No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is
And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the witness, catch the wit
Catch the spirit, catch the spit
The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide
Exit the warrior
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to
The friction of the day

Minor correction: Rush didn't build Le Studio. It had been around for a while before Rush Recorded there. It was designed to be a studio/recording retreat of sorts with cabins surrounding the main building and state of the art equipment. This is big reason why a lot of big stars recorded there. They could go into the town of Morrin Heights and walk around without getting hassled at all.
Source: I actually worked on a project there not long after this album was recorded. On my first trip up there to scope the place out, Rush were actually working there and I briefly met Geddy and their engineer Paul Northfield.
Yes, another person corrected me on that. I was a little distracted by all the Monkey business:) Thanks for watching and the great intel on your work there and meeting Geddy.
@@llaroseRush fans are somewhat serious about….Rush as you know 🤩
@@llaroseBut was it... The Main Monkey Business? 😁
Rush never built that studio they rented it you're thinking about Metalworks that was built by Triumph🇨🇦
Further research: Le Studio (later renamed Studio Morin Heights) - It was a residential recording studio in the Laurentian Mountains near the town of Morin-Heights, Quebec, Canada built in 1972 by recording engineer and producer André Perry, Nick Blagona and Yaël Brandeis. Thanks for your eye for detail and watching.
The thing that got me about Rush in the very beginning was their sound and how crisp, clear and clean it was. The drum sound was awesome and really led me into a space where I could really pay attention to, and appreciate, the musicianship of the band members. With Rush I also got the sense that the best part about being in a band making new music together was being in a band: the relationship of each member to the others was the thing and led to some of the most iconic music pieces to be recorded in the last 50 years or so. I will always be grateful to have come up in the Rush era: so many great songs and so many great memories associated with their music. Thanks guys!
Absolutely. The crispness and clarity draw you in, making you truly appreciate the musicianship. And you're spot on about the band dynamics; their synergy is what makes their music so iconic. It's a privilege to have grown up in the Rush era, surrounded by their timeless songs and unforgettable memories. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
ROCK GODS! TIMELESS PERFECTION!
No argument here. Thanks for watching:)
Rush is maybe the only band that I can listen to any of their songs multiple times and always enjoy them. Rush seems to have the formula to put me in my happy place. 😊
Excellent musicianship tends to do that to us. Neil's song writing is top shelf as well. Thanks for watching.
Thankyou Larry for your excellent approach to reacting to Rush. They are indeed Great.
My pleasure, they are a pleasure to feature here on the channel.
The Abbey Road of Canada is a great line!!
Just trying to bring a little British flair to the Canadian scenery!
Le Studio was in Morin Heights, Quebec
If you react to April Wine I like to rock you will see what it looks like in the summer. 😀
Great classic song! I am reading Geddy's book My effin' Life right now and I am really enjoying it.
Cheers
Nice, I'll check it out. I read Neil Peart's book 10 + years ago, another good read. Thanks for watching. April Wine, eh?
@@llarose I have read one of Neil's books. He has written a few of them.
April Wine is another excellent Canadian band. They have three lead guitarists and were originally from Nova Scotia but were based in Montreal, Quebec.
Myles Goodwin the lead vocalist just recently passed.
They had a number of hits here in Canada.
There is a funny skit from The Trailer Park Boys a Canadian show where Ricky kidnappes Alex Lifeson from Rush and he asks to play I like to rock and Alex answers That's April Wine.
Great channel! I'm sure someone has already mentioned that April Wine also had some videos featuring that same studio. Also, there are some Videos on UA-cam from a few years ago showing the studio in dilapidated, abandoned condition before it was torn down. Pretty sad.
I appreciate your support and for pointing out the connection with April Wine.
Where else can you get a Rush and monkey-battle reaction on one video? Well done. MOre Rucsh pretty please.
Believe it or not, it's not a first:) Thanks for watching.
Have always been curious if the footage was the actual takes for the recording of the song. In particular the drumming is spot on with the hits and timing. I assume this is the case but never found out if that holds up. You know, you see other vids. of other bands in a studio setting but never looked as if it was recording day, just part of the visual.
It's a valid point. The synchronization and precision, especially in the drumming, suggest that it could indeed be the actual recording takes. Rush was known for their meticulous attention to detail in the studio, so it wouldn't be surprising if this footage captured those recording sessions. It adds an extra layer of appreciation for their talent and dedication to their craft.
Nice drumming uh seen Neil 7 times live ,dude is 23 degrees here, you in Africa 😳😆
Saw them both in Vancouver and Halifax, way back in the day. Peart is stellar!! Not in Africa, just across the pond near the tropic of Capricorn (Rio de Janeiro) in the Western Hemisphere.
Hey Larry, life -long RUSH fan.Only saw RUSH live once!(Power Windows Tour) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. RIP Neal Peart😢👌👍✌ Great video It brings back great times when i was much younger! Lol 😀
Good ole' Halifax. Saw Tragically Hip at the Misty Moon there after they released their first album. Saw RUSH in Vancouver about 17-20 years ago.. It was awesome
@@llarose Hey, i was also at the Misty Moon to see the Tragically Hip! was sad to see it torn down!
@@stephenpublicover8818 Cool. It was always a toss up after Argyle closed down. Misty Moon or Palace. Back in those days, both cabarets had great up and coming bands. Small world.
@@llarose Hey Larry, you ever spend time in Dartmouth at (The Crazy Horse) Seen the Headpins there ,loudest Rock band ever!!
@@stephenpublicover8818 Yes, saw Meatloaf there (still have the ticket stub) along with Headpins. It used to be called ‘Lúcifers’ - It got pretty rowdy in there. What a blast from the past!
Tom Sawyer was his own boy -- not a man yet -- but he had his own view of the world and he was crafty 'oh I don't know if I can let you white wash this fence'.. so classic. I've used this 'well I bet you can't put in that fence post as fast as me'.. and then let them win :) Got learnt reading that book and naturally.. the song is just .. so much killer. thanks mate
Nice take. Agree. Thanks for watching.
After your reaction to this, the way you described it was obvious to me you need to listen to the song 2112....the animated version please.... Please.... Liked and subscribed!
Thank you for enjoying the channel. There might be some un-finished business with 2112 on the channel here. Some 2112 songs I started here: ua-cam.com/video/P7Ikz830lcY/v-deo.html
Such a unique tune-I love this tune. By the way, I am one of the few woman subbed to your channel, lol-so there are a few of us! EDIT: I do have a suggestion for a reaction-Flirtin' With Disaster by Molly Hatchet. Don't know if you've heard it or not but it's beyond epic!
Fun Fact: Did you know women are more likely to engage with content by commenting and making requests? They make up about 5% of subscribers but contribute roughly 20% of the comments! On a different note: I remember Molly Hatchet's song "Dreams I'll Never See" - And, under the haze of smoke and drinks many years ago, I only vaguely listened to some of their other tunes. They're definitely worth revisiting!
@@llarose Yes, I highly recommend Flirtin' With Disaster, I have a feeling you will love it!
Liked and subbed! From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
Welcome aboard. West Coast, Canada, eh? Thanks for watching.
Have you ever heard of Govt Mule
Have a listen to Blindman in the dark it’s from the deepest end. This is one track from a 3 hr show that is available on UA-cam if you want some ear candy give them a try. Warren Haynes is the guitarist and singer he also plays for the allman bros band does his own solo stuff and has another band he tours with he is very very busy
Just the way I like it lol more music. Have fun🇨🇦👍🏻🇨🇦
Thanks for the tip, Some people can do it all. I'll go check it out! Thanks for watching.
If it's not a masterpiece, I'm not sure what a masterpiece is.
That said, you should do both La Villa Strangiato and Working Man for their Time Machine Live in Cleveland videos (available on UA-cam - the 4K versions on StickHits channel are particularly good). The main guitar solo in La Villa Strangiato is one of the most beautiful guitar solos most rock fans have never heard. They have a bit of fun with both songs and I think it shows them in one of their most relaxed, joyous, and awesome performances.
I hear you. As great as this song is, I put it at the equal of Freewill, which was just knocking at the door of Masterpiece. I'm going to keep revisiting Rush, and I'm sure I'll dig up a masterpiece. Thank you for the suggestions. La Villa is def. on the radar.
BARCHETTA sound barketta. CH sound K in italian language.
That is a FUN FACT! There's an old photo of what appears to be Neil Peart leaning on a beautiful BMW Z8 in front of the studio circa 2001-ish.
Neil Peart Drum solo live in Frankfurt…
Yes, thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking for the concert with his best solo. Will def. check it out.
Rush had nothing to do with the inception nor operation of Le Studio.
I Effin' hate Monkey's! (No Offense)... You're a brave man having your door wide open like that, considering your location. I would definitely have a firearm handy😁Rush fan since 1976...
Funny you should say that. Yesterday, I have a kitchen invasion of 7-8 monkeys rummaging and breaking stuff. Never again!
NOMEANSNO...Red on Red! Canadian punk 3 piece. How do 3 people make that wall of sound and write great songs? You gotta do it!
The Wright Bros. Know of them well. They were formed in my neck of the woods on the Pacific coast (Canada) - I might have even seen them live in Vancouver as I was sneaking/staggering into all the punk bars in Gastown in the mid 80's. My goal for this channel is to eventually sprinkle in the lessor known vintage Punk bands from the mid-70's onward. Thanks for watching.
@llarose the Hanson Brothers. They toured Canada one way as NMN and the other way as the Hanson's. Seen em live in Vancouver and Winnipeg a bunch of times.
How much would it have cost to book Le Studio for a month or six weeks, as they did....?
Expensive, I would imagine. They were constantly touring too, which would bring in $$$ for these types of expenses. Thanks for watching this great song here on the channel.
David Bow-ee?
Yes, I'm sure he's been called a lot worse:)
Watch Monky Busness by Rush 😂
Right? My god, the 6am monkey circus here at the house. They were really going at it. So was RUSH:)
So you're saying your channel is kind of like Rush?? Not many female fans? 😂 So, just like Rush your female fans are out there.
Ah, gotcha! Well, with a comment like that, it seems my channel's pulling off some Rush-level magnetism, attracting fans of all kinds, including the lovely ladies! So, here's to you, rockin' with us and bringing some extra groove to the mix. 😘🎸
Lembro-me do Rush no Rio. Foi espetacular. Eles também jogaram em São Paulo.
Otimo, obrigado!
Monkeys?
Yes, monkeys. They come by at around 6am every morning and use my house as a circus and Octagon.
