Rush were unique. 3 master craftsmen. Neil was an amazing human being. Top drummer, but a humble guy who was intelligent, articulate & funny. He suffered such unimaginable tragedy, losing his daughter & partner within a year of each other in 1997/98. He eventually finds love again & was blessed with another daughter while taking the band to new levels of popularity. He retires in 2015 for what should have been a deservedly decades long life with his second family. And within a year he's diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and defies doctors prognosis until 2020. If ever there was a guy who deserved a happy retirement it was Neil. I still get upset when I think about it. Rush left us an amazing legacy & I take comfort in that.

Perfect. I always feel the same.
    Neil left us too soon.
    Rest in Peace, Professor

You pegged Neil exactly! He was a VERY shy man and could not stand any kind of admiration just embarrassed him! That’s why he did not do the meet and greets! But if the man spoke.. you are just enthralled with his modest intelligence! Such a humble genius!! God bless… from Texas!!

They have been my favorite band and favorite three people since I was just about to turn 13 in 1981. I saw them first live on the Grace Under Pressure tour. I nrver missed a tour afterwards. 35 concerts, and never left disappointed. Their musicianship is unmatched in my opinion.

My very first rock concert was in 1977. I was 16 and it was the A Farewell To Kings Tour. 30 years later, when my son was 16, his first concert was Rush on their Snakes & Ladders Tour. Seeing that show with him was one of the best experiences of my life.❤

This was the second Rush concert (tour) I went to - (R30 first), each tour progressively more amazing, but this drum solo (de shlagwerker is name of just the drum bit) - is by far my favorite, especially the bit with the 'sounds of the foundry' when he's doing the electric drum bit. Live made it so much better with the speaker stacks they used shook me to my core. When you got emotional, I did too, this man was amazing, he also wrote a large percentage of Rush lyrics (he has a few books out as well). I really enjoy your reactions, and keep up with the Rush ones! They only get better!

My first concert was the Rush Signals tour in ‘83. They blew my young mind away. Neil Peart made me notice the drums. He was just so phenomenal. It’s amazing what talent and then many years of hard work can do. He never got diverted by the trappings of fame and continued to learn and grow until the end. The drumming on Clockwork Angels is a masterclass. I could listen to just the drumming on that album and be satisfied. According to Neil, it was the only time he felt like he had reached perfection. I am so thankful he got to feel like the rest of us before he retired. Love your reactions. I’m here for more Rush and Ren!

Thank you for appreciating a band I grew up lovin' here in the Great White North. My first actual Rush vinyl purchase wasn't until Caress of Steel in '75 (their third album; I was an A-student, didn't need to study, so had a payin' job after school by that point and could afford tunes). But I'd already totally enjoyed what I'd digested of the musical exceptionality heard in their first two albums; ever since Working Man, from their first album, hit the airwaves. As an ardent fan, I saw them numerous times live over the decades, but I'm stupidly just now (that I've become a senior citizen 🙄😏) realizin' how lucky I was to be young adulting in that era, to experience them IN said era! Now, in 2024, I can tell that you two lovely young people enjoy, and FEEL, the uniqueness of the sonic and thought provoking journeys their talents gift us with. And there is much more for you to discover! Enjoy! 🤗

Hi Merchant, thanks for this! I think it's kind of important to know what "Malignant Narcissism" means, if you are unclear. It is basically being so self-absorbed and focused that it is ultimately terminal. I'm not sure of the relation to the piece, but it seems it might be a joke on themselves, because it's more showing off skills than conveying any sentiment.

LOL, the "Oscar" is amusing, Neil is (was) one of the most highly awarded drummers in rock music. In the 1980's, Modern Drummer magazine awards (readers voted award) he always won for "Best Percussion" "Best Instrumental" and 7 times in a row as "Best Rock Drummer" for every year Rush released any album... at which point they made him "no longer eligible" for the category, so someone else could win, LOL... then after they had tragedies and a long break, they allowed him to be eligible again, and their first album "back" he won again on the next 2 album releases... here is a link to many of the awards he won over the decades:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Peart#Awards_and_honours
