  • Planet 28 from Mammoth miniatures is a fantastic, quick and easy-to-play Sci-Fi skirmish game that was recently delivered to Kickstarter backers. This 2nd Edition of this awesome grimdark alternative to Necromunda and Inquisitor is available digitally and is great for solo, cooperative and head-to-head clashes in a Baroque Sci-Fi future.

    I have a flick through the new hardback book from the Kickstarter and discuss some of the rules, the means by which you grow your warbands/gangs and what other options are included within the 2nd Edition of the rules. It really is a fun option for those seeking an alternative to Necromunda, Inquisitor and the like and those who enjoy kitbashing!

    I've been following P28 for a long time, I'm absolutely in love with it! Introduced two veteran wargame friends to it in a three player game last week and they seemed to really like it! My only criticisms of the game is that it needs a bit more proofreading on the traits, abilities and weapons tables, and the lack of a Jump Action. I found some homebrew material for 1st edition online and tweaked it to match up for second Ed. and I'm really happy with it, codified all the vehicle and regular weapon traits into a single table, added some additional one, and added weapons like grenades. Hopefully getting another game of it this week!
    I'd love to see what you've found for "Baroque Minis", I'm on an eternal quest to source as many weird and interesting minis and 3d prints as I can. I'm not as much of a fan of the hyper realistic ultra detailed 3d print models that are all the rage now, I really like the "old hammer" style chonky minis.

      Very cool! Neat to hear that the game has had a good run out :) I am totally onboard with the look of those Oldhammer-style miniatures. Love a weird, chunky, slightly oddly proportioned miniature representing some grimdark adventurer. Have already started picking out various companies to talk about!

      Alternative Armies have a great range incorporating the Laserburn range which still stand up well. Vehicles are great. my personal favourite being the large wheel tanks. Also love CP models. I have a platoon of their Space Ogres, a selection of spaceport scum, adventurers, etc. I should mention they are 15mm, but the options to repurpose 1/72 tanks, vehicles, etc., is immense.

      Yeah was quite recent - I believe (from the links I found) that you can get the collated 2nd Ed digitally if you'd like to dive in and have a pop at it. With it going well, hopefully we see more to expand Planet 28 in the future

    Theres some minis that would suit this from Crooked dice, their colony 87 range. Also there's an STL set of modular gothic citizens from Anvil digital forge.

    Very excited for my ks delivery, definitely looking to get a wee campaign going in the new year at our club. We’d been talking about Necromunda but a couple of people aren’t keen on the buy in level for books these days; this feels like a fun alternative

      @@evansn79 What irks me is that I've been keeping an eye on the Mammoth miniatures website for a while now and this is the first time I'm hearing about a kickstarter... Is there some place where the hardcopy can be bought? Does Mr. Evans have some kind of info outlet? (clearly, his website isn't being updated to show any activity...)

    2nd ed irons out some of the kinks I disliked in the 1st. Combat plays so much better. It's easily adaptable so if you don't like a stat or rule it's easy to change. It's pretty funny in the places too. Would love to see P28 getting more recognition.

    Can you play small games with actual units with the rule set? Something like 500 points if 40k?

    • @BecauseOfDragons
      @BecauseOfDragons  Рік тому +2

      There are rules for squads of miniatures in-game so you could tinker with it to play out small-scale skirmishes between larger warbands/armies rather than a handful of characters per side. There are rules for vehicles as well so you could do it if you had a bit of a play around with it!

  • @Darklight689
    @Darklight689 4 місяці тому +1

    How do you even play this, I was trying to create a warband and play but seems no matter how bare I go, getting more than two models in the recommended starting points seems impossible

    • @BecauseOfDragons
      @BecauseOfDragons  4 місяці тому

      When I made a warband for this I had two ideas. One was two "good" characters with decent kit and stats. The second was around three or four but with moderate skill. If you're playing solo they recommend going for 500 points but you can always tweak things. I think of it like Eisenhorn with maybe the one Inquisitor and perhaps one or two allies.

      @@BecauseOfDragons thanks for the reply! makes sense. Yeah the game doesn’t really describe what a starting character is supposed to look like got worried about having a main skill below 6 at just having too many rounds where nothing happens
