- This has been my first time reviewing a firearm of this size, and I'm very pleased to bring you my findings.
The Ruger LCP II Lite-Rack in .22 LR is a pretty innovative offering from Ruger and helps to solve the issue of .380 ACP being snappy in such a small handgun. If you have one, let me know how your experiences have been!!

I think being able to get back on target much faster because of low recoil makes this gun a very viable self-defense option! I found it to be very accurate as well..

Not only are .22lr fun to shoot but they don't break the bank if you want to fire off a few hundred rounds. Nice little piece.
I carry my lcp 22 and an extra mag a lot when walking around the neighborhood at night. Incase I run into some coyotes or 2 legged predators.

I carry 4 spare mags loaded with the CCI Velocitor 40 grain copper plated hollow points. They hit hard penetrats deep leaves and impressive wound cavity. at close quarters it's deadly.

I have been carrying the LCP2 .22lr for well over a year now and it has become a part of my edc as my take everywhere pocket pistol/backup. I am nearing the 15,000 round count and I have had literally ZERO malfunctions with it. It eats any high velocity ammo I feed it and will even run standard velocity ammo reliably. It even runs Aguila 60gr SSS rounds reliably.
The only issue I had with it was a broken firing pin at the 5,500 round mark and ruger promptly sent me 2 more firing pins, firing pin springs, and retainer pins free of charge.
I even have a crimson trace Lightguard on it (100ish lumen light) that I primarily installed for shooting snakes at night while hunting but found it makes the gun print a lot less like a gun, and even keeps the gun oriented in my pocket much better.
I’ve owned both the original LCP and LCP2 in .380 and this little .22 is more reliable than either. I also have tandemkross mag extensions that raise the capacity to 14+1 and I keep those on my reload mags.
There is no .22lr semi auto pocket pistol that comes close to the reliably or shoot ability of the ruger lcp2 lite rack.
I carry mine around the house, doing yardwork, etc. It runs fine on 40 grain hi-vel ammo, usually CCI mini's.
I also throw it in a pocket for stuff around the house. Makes it super easy to stay armed no matter what im doing
i have fired remington thunderbolt, federal, and i think the name norma no problems at all. i have cleaned it once.

I have both the 380 and the 22lr. I'm glad that you made the point of faster shots with the 22. Thst decides it for me as I have Underwood ammo in the 380 and lots of muzzle rise and none with the 22. Excellent presentation.

I find it funny that Most people wouldn't pocket carry a .22, and feel "protected". TEN .22lr rounds On Target beats Any other caliber MISSED....but that's just me.
That was kind of my turning point. If I have to use this little .22, that would suck. But what would suck worse would needing a gun and not having one, or, shooting with a 380 or 9mm that I hadn't mastered because they suck to shoot.

1shot has a video of a 22lr magazine dump into ballistics gel. It took no time to fire the 10 rounds and that gel was a mess afterwards. I'd have no problem carrying a 22 as my edc.
@@elvyfoster7455 Exactly, people tend to get blinded by the whole "caliber debate", and think that the .22 is Ineffective. Is it Optimal? No, but it's Still Deadly, when shot placement superceded bullet diameter. 👍🏻
I think the boogaloo crowd tends to overlook the danger of them too. In a world without prompt medical care, no extra holes is going to be vital to survival. A 22 WILL kill, if not immediately, then in a few days once the sepsis kicks in. And THAT would be the worst of the two, IMO. Lol
I love mine. Carry it 7 days a week. Need more mags thow. Lol
We bought one for a demo/rental in September. After a several hundred rounds of several brands of .22, it was on its way back to Ruger the same week for light primer strikes, like 20%. We got it back and I was out shooting it when it quit going bang. A quick inspection revealed the rear of the firing pin had broken off. I got another one on the way, and when I tapped out the pin holding the forward part of the firing pin in place, it came out in two pieces - the firing pin had actually broken into three pieces. The only problems now are the slide stop often engages with some ammo - high velocity combined with heavier bullets seems to be a bad combination. Aguila Super Extra 40 grainers are guaranteed to engage the slide stop at least once per mag before the mag is empty. And CCI Stingers will often catch an empty lengthwise between the bolt face and barrel, probably due to the slightly longer case.
I have the .380 version that I bought for $225 a year or two ago and it definitely has a bit of snappy recoil, but the 7rd extended mags certainly help control it a bit better. However, I won't lie; I really want one of the .22LR versions.
I think I may end up grabbing a .380 version and reviewing it, as well as comparing it to the .22. I've shot them before but not enough to recommend or not recommend one from a reviewer perspective lol
I recommend the Hogue handall Beaver tail grip sleeve. It will tame that snappy recoil.
Put a hogue on mine and now I can shoot it all day. Takes the snappy recoil away.
I bought my lcp 22 back in april and I couldn’t be happier. This thing is a blast to shoot and i would have no problem carrying it if i had to. Ive accidentally knocked that safety on a few times and i cant stand the mag disconnect safety so i took them both out of the gun.
How was the reliability of the gun after you took out the safety? I took out my mag disconnect and it runs smooth but the safety is different
I have two. I loved it that much. Bought one for my gf and just gave in and bought one for myself to keep in my pocket at home.

@@DRAGONRIDER385 We know that. Ruger's first LCP was in .380 ACP. But shooting it kinda sucks if you're recoil sensitive. That's why someone suggested making one in .32 ACP

The LCP2 .22 is a hammer fired instead of striker fired pistol. We have 10 in stock at the wholesale place I work part time at. You can get a package with 2 magazines in it 10 rounds each for about 30 dollars or less I don't remember the price on that package. But, that's what I know about the new Ruger pistol in .22 lr. I have one myself with 6 mags. Nice pistol for us old folks.

for me, the reliability of this .22 with good ammo, and how well I can shoot it, make me confident to carry it. I actually think the trigger is pretty good for a .22 - no it's not a target trigger, but for a small .22 it's fine. Mine has the Hogue grip over the frame, and I think that helps as well.

I just bought one today! Love it already..going to paint my front sight..put 200 rounds tonight..trigger surprises me when I first shot it..fit and finish is outstanding for a gun at any price!!

Great little shooter! Picked one up to teach my grandsons the fundamentals of firearms. I also use a Heritage .22 with them. They love going out with Grampa to the range!!
Those Heritages are really good guns as well, especially for what you mentioned- teaching new shooters

A tiny bit of Testor's Sublime Green GI or Testor's Red Fluorescent paint carefully applied to the front sight's ramp, using a toothpick, makes a significant improvement in sight visibility. Use a little 91% or anhydrous isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface before painting.

@@ArchetypeofMan Have you considered adding a green spot laser which would wrap around the trigger guard? Would this allow you to shoot more accurately and more accurately at close range? Red ones are around $90, and there is a green one for $150 on Amazon.

Mine is extremely accurate for self defense distances. I haven’t tried it at longer distances but I can get very tight groups between 7 and 10 yards.
It shoots much better than you would think a gun of it's size would shoot, that's for sure.
Just got mine last night. I pocket carry in the office and this is hopefully replacing my NAA mini revolver. Which is a great gun on its own. Just getting older and 11 rounds beats 5 anyday.
Those NAA revolvers are pretty nifty, but I'd go with the LCP too.
Ok I’m with ya . Mine has 2400 rounds thru with a lot of minimags and blazer 40gr hv...get some duds with blazer and a few with minimags .
I carry it when like you say ... better than nothing works in those situations .
Ps dude use the mag loader tool that came with it ! I smoothed the edges on the lips a bit with cratex and dremel tool.
Good review . My extractor chipped last week .. so $4.00 got me a new one! I hold most shots easy in 3” at 20 ‘ .
I don’t like 2 things . The hammer open channel to get dirt/ lint etc in ! Was thinking of a PC of electric tape over it to keep crap out . The other issue is IF you have a dud and need to rack a new one in , its best to hold almost sideways so it weakly ejects a round with head on it yet ! Watch this !
Overall I love it and yes I have good plinkers that are accurate and fun too!

Had some issues with various ammo in mine, but so far Remington Thunderbolt bulk ammo is 220 for 220. Zero failures with that ammo so far. Looking forward to seeing how high the count gets before I finally have a failure. I love mine!
That's good that it will use the Thunderbolts. A lot of Semis don't, in my experience. Lol
@@ArchetypeofMan I also had Lorcin .22 pistol (junk) that would only run on TBolts?! Yeah, I'm glad because I have another 1300 of them! :)
We have found that thunderbolts really do run good in this gun...99-100% over 300+ rounds fired...the only other ammo that we have that runs that good is the 36gr mini-mags...everything else isn't up to those two...we only have 2 boxes of velocitors on hand, so we haven't tested them...

I know some people have experience feeding issues and such, but mine runs like a champ. I do use quality higher velocity ammo and stick with the 40 grain stuff, which I read or heard was recommended beforehand. And hitting a Honeydew melon or a large cantaloupe at 30 ft. is not much of a challenge, but with my first gen. LCP 380, not so much. I kind of suck with that one. The first gen. 380 is very snappy and the trigger lack much to be desired. But with this LCP 2 22lr version, it's easy to control and fun to shoot. So I'm very comfortable with it as my EDC.

i own one, for about 4 months now. just about 550 rounds, one failure to fire, easy to rack, easy to shoot, accurate at 10 yards as far as target head shots. i carry mine in a DeSantis softuck holster everyday, didn't like the holster at first, but found the 3:30 position and feels really comfortable, i have to wear my t shirts a little longer. and the pocket holster, if your pants are snug on your waist, the pocket holster stays in place also. yeah 22 doesn't kick the perp as hard as 9mm, or 45, but i can put QUICK 4-5 rounds. stop them dead in their tracks. that's my review!
I use mine in pocket carry holster but I agree with your assessment. It's also just a LOT of fun to me too lol
I recently bought this little tool and I love it. Fun to shoot and reliable. Only malfunction have been a couple of dud rounds from cheap ammo.

I got one to carry at work and I love it! It’s better than nothing or a knife,I have this and two extra mags in my back pocket and forget it’s there most times,(I know it’s there but it’s so light it’s about the same weight as my IPhone)it says in the manual it’s “safe” to dry fire lol I got snap caps just cuz for dry fire.
Same intended purpose for me. And I feel that it's absolutely a leg up in a "less permissive" environment, which are often the targets for gunmen anyways.

Just for fun, try CCI Copper-22 with an advertised FPS of 1850 compared to 1640 with CCI Stingers. The Copper-22’s are noticeably hotter with a substantial increase in flash. 💥
Mine is a piece of shit if I load armscor 36grain bullets but when they go off they hit in a 2inch group but it might be the ammo but can you try it and tell me if you have any luck with that ammo but besides that I love it but I never got a single dud with the ammo so I’m going to shoot 1000 rounds of it in my savage 64
Be sure you load yours with 40 grain rounds. It's picky. I've put about 1,000 rounds through mine. No problem if you use the right ammo.

Some may be asking why would want to use this caliber as a self-defense round. There are plenty of other rounds out there that are affordable, capable, and accessible for self-defense. The main reason someone would choose it is for the low recoil. While rare, many people lack the strength to effectively handle even a .380 ACP. Concealed carriers owe it to themselves to be as well-armed as physically possible and while most are able to carry a caliber more substantial than .22 LR, some simply can’t. Ammunition in this caliber is super cheap, so you can get in a lot of training for very little money - which is good because you'll need to be well-skilled if you're using it for self-defense. While you should practice proper shot placement with every caliber, with .22 LR, you already behind the power curve.
In addition, firearms chambered in this caliber have hardly any recoil. Even when fired from the smallest guns on the market, the .22 LR is seriously easy to control. Since this caliber is easy to handle, it also makes getting quick, accurate follow-up shots easier, too. Having a gun that's easy to shoot effectively can be a huge deal, especially for a new shooter. The most significant disadvantage of .22LR for self-defense is the rimfire system. Rimfire rounds tend to be less reliable than centerfire rounds. A round failing to ignite can be a significant issue. The second issue that most .22 LR fails to expand when they strike a soft target and can have penetration issues. You’ll need premium grade ammo for defensive purposes for your .22 LR. I strongly recommend the CCI Velocitor copper plated hollow point it's the fastest most accurate 40 grain hollow point on the market , It's velocity is 1435 fps it Hits hard penetrates deep and leaves a significant wound channel. I think 4 shots into the torso and 1 shot to the head or neck in close quarters would render an attacker totally incapacitated if it don't put a few more shots into them .
I carry the Ruger LCP .22LR Pistol as my EDC back up .I trust it if needed ,I am confident multiple .22 LR shots into the head neck torso or below the belt line will stop an attacker dead in their tracks. The Heart Lungs Liver Spleen & Spine, Stomach major arteries all reside in the Torso .The Neck the Juggler vein , Throat Spine reside there .The Head the brain and brain stem reside there . At close quarters the .22lr Hand gun is deadly when multiple shots strike these areas.
I concur. While not my first choice, I have carried and would again, a small .22 LR when I cant take my 9mm.
Are you from a different planet. Um there are noy any other affordable rounds now. 9mm is 40 bucks just for steel cased 380 is about like that and you can't find it
Very happy with the 22lr lcp2. I’m more comfortable with it than the Taurus g2c. I guess it’s the recoil is a bit better and the way the trigger feels.It loves bulk Remington bucket ammo lol. I tried some cci subsonic too. But mostly just plink with it and practice so I run bulk through it and it’s been great.I had a couple fail to feed but that was only twice out of a lot of rounds and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the bulk ammo.Mightve been the cci subsonic which I think Ruger doesn’t recommend using on this pistol.Great video man.
Bulk 22 definitely has lower quality control it seems than the higher end stuff in the plastic trays. I love mine too though!

Own it, love it, I did add a Hogue rubber grip and it's perfect I can hold it with one finger, I definitely recommend the grip and the LCP2 22LR🙂👍I actually bought the Taurus PT22 1st and hated it wouldn't fire any ammo I put through it, I fired my brothers LCP and was hooked, what an awesome gun

Love my Ruger LCP 2 22. Very easy for my small hands. And I hope to teach my 14 year old how to use it too.

I painted my front sight orange and the rear green i used a tooth pick finger nail polish and top it of with a clear coat polish amazing I care this gun and gave my 43x a rest.
I really like mine as well. Very convenient, and it's just plain fun to shoot as well!
I love this gun plus add a techna clip and go running in gym short with no problems
I've got a DeSantis Pegasus IWB for it I use at the gym. Makes it so easy to never be unarmed
Best 22 on the market. Small round should equate to a small gun imo. Most other 22's are bigger than my Glock 17 they have no practicality it is ridiculous.
I tend to agree with you. A larger .22 though like the TX22 is a lot of fun, but for defensive guns I definitely agree.
I agree...! S&W has a .22 priced around 700-800 and it is the size of a bazooka...I don't understand it...
Ruger says its fine to dry fire in the manual. I want one so I can hypothetically 😈 carry very discreetly and get my dad more into ccw instead of just home defense and target shooting

Pocket, IWB at the 4 to 6 o'clock, vest carry, or ankle carry... it would be a decent deep cover or backup piece.
I've been very impressed with it. And I was NOT a fan of these types of guns prior to the last few months with this one.
I own two.22s a M&P 15-22 with 8 -25 round mags and A S&W victory.22 pistol with five 10 round mags both loaded with Stingers and Velociters along with other little hollow points made by CCI. But a couple are loaded with regular 40 grain copper plated or lead round nose Now I own other bigger caliber weapons for self defense but my .22 s are accurate and may have to serve a purpose my kids handle both with a great proficiency so their is always that
I think .22s get looked over quite a bit and thats unfortunate because they really are a great way to learn and hone fundamentals, and at the end of the day, muzzle energy may not be impressive, but holes in vital places aren't a good way to keep attacking someone either. So I think .22s absolutely have a seat at the table in terms of defense, even if not ideal.

I would have done a few things differently on this pistol. First I would have done an ambi slide mounted safety. Next low profile adjustable sights, and maybe a la S&W EZ380, a grip safety.
An adjustable sight model would be awesome. I understand why they made it the way they did, but i didn't anticipate just how much fun it is to shoot either. Lol
My LCP .22 Is my daily carry. I think being able to place accurate shots is what separates the boys from the men in this world. 11 shots placed into an apple size target at 10-20 yards is no joke in a gun fight.
I'd take it over the .380 Version for sure. Penetration is adequate, capacity is good, and it sure beats going unarmed thinking about the full sized gun you left at home because you couldn't conceal it that day
Agreed. Precise fast 10 shots from 22lr will do more damage than than big and slow 44 magnum (unless you are a Clint Eastwood )
If I need to duell someone from 25 yards. I would chose tx22 over 44mag. And I'm confident I can do 4 headshots before opponent will raise his big gun.
My favorite part about 22lr that you can as fast shooter as Jerry Miculek. Reliability? Buy high quality ammo, keep your gun super clean and lubed, upgrade hammer springs and firing pin springs, and train clearing malfunctions lighting fast.
The only 9mm that can shoot as fast as 22lr are race guns like MP core 2 , Cenik Rival S, CZ Shadow 2 etc, but those are 42oz handguns.
Love mine also cci Mini Mags or Stingers work best in mine but not ammo picky, I clean and lubricate often , 800 rounds through mine so far, Ruger Customer Service has been excellent also with my other gun.

Wow, you have a really good one...ours is very picky, thunderbolts and 36gr mini-mags have been the favorites...a much longer list of ammo it doesn't like...

For sure. I was surprised to find out that it's not a striker fired gun, but rather a single action, hammer fired pistol. Definitely a good trigger considering the size and intended use for the gun. I still love the little pocket rocket lol
i love mine, after upgrading my springs i have yet to have a light firing pin strike, i shoot so fast and straight with this than any gun i’ve ever had, and with the added belt clip i can carry in basket ball shorts

Honestly, it certainly fits the bill for a reliable pocket gun, and it won't break the bank to practice with it compared to other calibers. Hard to go wrong with it

Got a great deal on one at my local gun store guy bought it for his wife and she didn't want it brand new 3 extra mags and a pocket holster 300 bucks out the door. Put it on lay away til my purchase permit comes in(NC) THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT EDC
Certainly a better option than going unarmed, and dare I say, better than the .380 variant for most of us. A lot easier to shhot quickly and accurately, and cheaper to train with.
I recommend the Hogue handall Beaver tail grip sleeve.it improves the look and feel of the pistol positions the trigger finger in the proper position on the trigger so you don't pull shot due to improper position of your trigger finger.

I carry a .380 LCP. My sights are abysmal. The trigger pull is terrible and the round capacity is just aweful, had to get an extended mag to get 3 fingers on it... Yet I still love it.
The .380 LCP, despite its MANY drawbacks, is one of the best "Gut guns," ever made. Wallet carry, reliable and affordable.
I may reconsider and get one. If for no other reason than to bitch and moan about it on camera. 😂😂😂

I really wanted to love this gun, but I can't get it to run reliably enough to be depended on. Even got the spring upgrade kit that people on UA-cam raved about, and no noticeable difference. Some call it ammo picky. Well given current ammo circumstances, I haven't been able to find what it likes. I can get a couple mags to run no problem sometimes, but sometimes not. Currently a range toy for me, because it is fun to shoot, but the routine ftf's and double-feeds mean I never carry it on me like I intended to.
I must've gotten a unicorn. Mine has been far, far more reliable than I ever expected it to be. Seems to be about a 50/50 split between folks who love theirs and them being reliable, and folks who haven't had much luck at all. :/ sorry, bro!
We have had our best results with thunderbolts, of all things...shooting 100 per range visit they are 99-100%...the only close 2nd is the 36gr mini-mags...this gun is definitely picky...that said, we normally shoot cheap bulk, which is good practice in clearing problems...

Ruger sent me a replacement due to so many feed issues. This one has 100 rounds. Still a few ftf out of 50. Mine seems to like aguila super extra.

Possibly that notch in slide is to allow slide to go forward during disassembly.. this might be my next purchase..🙂

I love mine and carry it regularly IWB appendix in a "CYA" brand holster. Only 600 rounds through mine, and 3 hiccups during firing. I have come to believe those were "break in related, as they occured within the first 300 rounds and were silly things like double feed of spent case over a new round, or failure to fully eject a spent case. I agree that its an overall excellent pistol with a few small but NOT deal breaker gripes. I think, as with most ofher Ruger pistols and other brand's pistols.... at least TWO mags in the box should be standard. Brand mags are in fact easy to find online, but come on. Also, no damn take down tool? I use a red dot sight adjustment tool for popping up the take down pin. Easily found online as well for a few bucks. I swapped the trigger and all main springs in my pistol.... due to reviews suggesting most potential mechanical issues are solved by doing so. Stronger recoil spring, stronger extractor spring, stronger hammer spring, lighter trigger spring. These pistols have been out long enough that you would THINK Ruger would build them with better springs so its not up to the consumer.... but it is what it is.
I got shot with a fmj 22lr longway through my ankle, complete pass through. 22s no joke carry whatever's convenient. I carry glock 42( 380 jhps) as backup to my XD subcompact 40.

Trigger on mine is 7.5 lbs. Too heavy. I would prefer 2 to 3 lbs less. Mag safety is easy to remove.
Update: Installed MCARBO spring kit - trigger now 5 lbs.
Ide have no problem after a good break in period using this as a backup to my xds 4.0 or for hot weather carry
Thats exactly what I use it for. Deep concealment and backup. It excels at those roles, IMO
Have you shot CCI Stingers and how did the LCP II handle them?
I have a video on that, but I'll spare you. Lol it didn't go well at first. I had to play with the recoil spring but now it seems to work OK.
Granted, I have a sample size of 1, and other folks have said theirs worked fine out of the box with Stingers.

I've owned 2 P22s. Fun guns, and definitely a better plinker choice than this one. But defensively, this one all day. The LCP has been more reliable for me as well.

@@shibosuru I had the p22 tactical for one day. Then got a refund the next. Jamming, double feeding, and the last straw was it not even firing the rounds. Worked a whole day with it because I wanted to like it, but pull the trigger no bang. Then I checkt the bullets and they had no markings at all on the primers. It was one of the worst reliable guns I have shot.

I have one. Selling it. Cheaply built junk. Hammer block safety easy to forget and safety levers dig in IWB. Jamamatic with most ammo. Crazy difficult to reassemble slide spring. Picking up my LCP2 22LR next week.

For anyone that doesn't have a manual or that doesn't like to read, it says on the bottom of page 17 of the owners manual that it is safe to dry fire this pistol. At first I sweated this for a couple of days... cuz I don't like to read
Bought mine last week and sending it back to Ruger this week. Took it out to shoot the day after purchasing and have had issues with it.
Shot the first 6 rounds fine, but has jammed on every other too every round after that. Either the round is not loading correctly or it's not ejecting the spent shell or both. Very frustrated. Was really looking forward to shooting this gun. ☹
Oh man! That really sucks. Im sorry to hear that but thank you for sharing your experiences. Hopefully Ruger gets you set up and back in business. It really is a fun gun but that has to be really annoying.
I experienced 1 hiccup in 500 rounds, my fault mag not fully in pushed in and held with pinky finger, I put Lucas gun oil on feed ramp after and some around ejector 100 rounds and works smoother, my experience with this gun.
