Just realised i have been wachting you guys for nine years now 😮 Merry christmas to you guys aswell! And to another (atleast) nine years of builds and humor 🎉
No!... We are screaming at you guys because you ran a unoiled filter in a freaking dusty 3 hour race! C'mon guys!. That's something that I was taught at a very young age along with "Always check the oil and water on everything before running it". We farmed over 2000 acres at the time. Definitely not one of your top smartest moments lol. That's just something that you can't do.
Built my son a go-kart for Christmas here in the Philippines 😂 it was a challenge but thanks to your guys channel I was able to make it happen for my sons Christmas gift thank you
That's why we love the thumb throttle on our dirt bike's. Easy maneuvering around turns. Cause ur not releasing or twisting the throttle and u don't have a very good grip when u are doing that. My Nana was like sheesh there flying on that little bitty motor. She has a bicycle trike and the kid's rigged a gas powered go cart motor im it and she loves it. She uses it go around the block with the kid's riding bikes. The cop's don't do anything cause she's not doing anything wrong and they have gas powered bicycles.
You can weld a valve spring around the tip of that lathe chuck key so you have to push down on it while using it and it will eject itself from the chuck when you let go. That would prevent leaving it in the chuck on accident. Get the spring tension you want by sanding the outside of the spring coils.
"the chuck is on the lathe" that's the chuck key. The chuck is what holds the work piece. But I'm happy that you are paying attention to machine shop safety. It's very important.
I remember when I was a kid I used to take Pistons and place a punch just below the ring slot and i would ever so gently pop the punch to make an intrusion into the ring gap. I would then lightly file it, then sand it. Henceforth the rings didnt move. Just some stuff an old man taught me when i was a kid.
Paper gaskets go on dry. You don't want the gasket sliding, it needs to stick, stay put, not slide around. I'm a 70 yr old retired tool & die maker, whose only means of transportation is my Giant mountain bike, with a 212cc Predator engine in it. I had to adjust the front down-tube to get it to fit, and make a lot of other adjustments to the engine, and front forks, in order to keep the front wheel on the ground, when accelerating away from a stop, but, all in all, it' rides like a motorcycle with the Comet belt drive, and a Juggernaut clutch, and I have a riot riding it. You guys got me started on this when I first saw your channel, I can't remember how many years ago that was, and I'm STILL waiting for a motorized mtb from you. Come on guys, no smelly 2 strokes, lets see an mtb. PS, don't use 10" riser bars like I did, if you want to keep the front wheel on the ground. It's laid back, when cruising, but pretty scary the first couple of times she stands on one wheel. That blown engine of yours, the first thing that came to me was piston rings with not enough end gap, and overheating from lack of oil. I'm curious about cylinder bore wear, how much? Did a bad tuning job cause raw gas into the cylinder, and wash away lube oil? Although the oil didn't look like it had gas in it. It looked muddy. If you build one, I'll send you a picture of mine, so that we can compare. One more thing, the cops like it when I keep it under 50mph, although that's tough, when Harleys pass me. I'm an old biker at heart. Keep it up, I'm watching. Loving it.
Can you install an external pump and oil cooler, perhaps with a filter? That would help the engine stay cooler and oil last longer plus reduce the chance for damage.
Hey Chuck ... I mean Charles, don't let these guys get to you, you got this. ;) That thing is a ripper. I think if you raked up some leaves and screwed some self-tapping hex head screws into the rear tire you could knock 2 seconds off the time. I can't help but wonder what that massive roller cam was for? It looked like it had duration for weeks. P.S. You know the difference between a race-built 212-ish engine and a CAT Marine Diesel? The CAT Marine Diesel is GUARANTEED to run at WIDE OPEN THROTTLE for one year after purchase. A 212-ish race engine IS NOT.
I have liked your guys content since i found it. But yall gotta do a rode trip to go get charles back. Just accommodate him however he needs. He is a key part this trio.
On our racing go carts we weigh the crank before we machine there and then we add the weight back by using Malory metal to the center. It keeps your counterweight balance properly.

I smother quark valve cover gaskets in ultra black. Thats the only valve cover gaskets i use period on anything i can and the hundreds of engines ive built have never sprung a leak from the valve covers or anywhere else. One tip for valve cover and exhaust manifold or header gaskets if you dont have studs is get yourself some all thread that matches the size and pitch of your bolts, run them in a few turns, put your gasket on, set the part on obviously with the all threads or cut bolts coming through the proper holes, replace them with the proper bolts one by one, torque to spec, let it set....if youre running rtv everywhere you should be. Run 2 heat cycles, put a quarter to half turn on all the bolts. Thats the way ive done it on hundreds of drift car engines and prerunner engines. From toyota to a couple hyundai 3.5 liter v6 (which are surprisingly good and unbelievably reliable) to a whole slew of 7-800 hp, ingnite e90 burning, single turbo 2 valve ford 4.6 liter v8s, small and big block ford, small and big block chevys, BUNCH of LS stuff, couple pro charged 5.7 hemis (because its actually a good setup if you put weisco forged pistons in them) 1.5-2jz, bunch of k20&k24, ive built em all. My engines do not leak. Thats my #1 pet peeve.
Not surprised this is fast. You can see it's FAR more stable in the corners, and even from the camera footage alone the vibration is down and stability is fantastic.
who turned the trolls loose in the comments? talk about a bunch of folks who need coal in their stockins smh Merry Christmas guys, stay safe and love the vids.
I imagine that the sludgey oil is from the fine dirt going into the cylinder and sanding the cylinder wall repeatedly for 3 hours straight thus making it burn oil too😂
Also a lot of times you can reuse a greased gasket as well. The heat doesn't dry them out and crack. I'm not too cheap to buy new gaskets, but I have been in a situation where we couldn't get one easily or quickly and that greased gasket saved us.
I think the engine noise Charles heard towards the end of the race was either of two things. Carbon buildup on piston and combustion chamber hitting. Or detonation because of the carbon.Just thought of piston slap also.
For the race bike, can you add a high flow oil drain valve and a high flow fill tube so you can do a super quick oil change during rider change/refuel pit stop?
I don’t know how close a 1 cylinder engine is balanced but 30 grams is a lot of metal removed. I worked for Campbell Crankshaft for years and Ralph wanted all engines balanced within 1/2 of a gram. He wanted engines balanced better than competitors were doing. Just a tad of info for ya. Enjoy your info too!! Thanks
None of these cranks are balanced at all. You can order 3 of the same and they'll have a 50+ gram variance easily. I frequently get cranks with completely different sized gun drilling holes through the rod journal. Got to remember its really mass produced Chinese crap. The reciprocating parts on every engine build I've touched are always out weighing the counter weight. I frequently smooth the rod journal end and then statically balance them as best as you can. It does make a noticeable improvement. But just think of this, people switch from stock cast rods to billet rods which are much heavier all the time. Those people never rebalance the engine. Nor do the rod manufacturers even mention it. My guess at the reason being, it was so far off in the first place out of the box, you can't make it much worse.
@@WyFoster you're quite correct, noone OEMs balance the whole reciprocating assembly. But quality aftermarket manufacturers do individually balance a single component or set of components before sale, which would mean in a quality build there would not be a large imbalance. On lawn equipment derived parts it would appear anything goes. 😂

My buddies dad had a shop and we tinker around on cars growing up. Whenever we were working on a motor he'd always say, the gasket makes the seal! He was right. No gasket maker on gaskets. I grease mine from time to time, not oil, to help with disassembly and to be able to reuse gasket.

Hey I’m a big fan or your guys videos you guys made me wanna start posting videos about my bikes and racing motors I’ve been watching you guys for years and love the content
Amazing build fellas… only thing you got on my current project build is the MoFlow head… I got me EC carbs 32/25 head a 59mm crank, and I got the 1.35 ratio black venoms. I’d say I could take you or atleast tie you up.. cuz the 59mm crank takes me to 241cc and I have higher lift and more duration with the gos 285 cam.. it has a long ass 260 duration to go with the 385 lift. Lastly I have a custom casted 72mm block that has more support built in. Than the Tilly. I just worry about your MoFlow.. lots of power is made in the head and my 32/25 is making good power with the dual springs but that head you have is savage
That's a sweet combo for sure. The cam the guys are using is a custom Johnnie Berry cam with his cylinder head work for it. That cam is over .300 lift and near 270 degrees of duration. I have several, very spicy yet it'll ride very docile and make excellent torque.
I would try MX4 from renegade or Sunocos equivalent. Runs extremely clean, oxidized fuel, an low octane. It keeps up with engines running with methonal.
Trick is definitely having the compression to burn stuff like that. I like about 13-16:1 for methanol. This baby was about 10.7 if I recall. Good enough for premium. Wouldn't really take advantage of a racing gas as it sits. Sure it would help a little bit, but not as well as if the engine was designed for a racing fuel. This baby is for going 3 hours continuously on back road trails.
Someone NEEDS to make a head and cam to swap the intake and exhaust ports. Swap the valves around. And lobes on the cam. Just seems like it would work out better. Make a intake adapter to face the carb forward on the output shaft side. It would atleast help keep the dirt out the carb and engine. I bought a scooter blown the same way, dust intake. The guy I got it from also ran it without exhaust. The carb was filled with sand. The rings and valves worn. It had the filter housing tube, but no filter or housing. Pulling air right beside the rear tire, the jet was even blocked by the sand, I went with a big bore kit, over sized valves, ported the head. Large carb, ported intake, high compression piston. It's about all you can do by bolt on parts , only way to get more power from it. Is to start modifying parts. I even removed extra material from the piston underside.the next step would be shaving the head, and a more aggressive cam, I tried two aftermarket cams there is so little difference. It didn't really make a noticable difference. I even went with titanium valve train components. Stiffer springs, tuning the CVT I had it revving to over 10k rpm, factory 7500-8500 max rpm ,, I'd like to keep it below 9250-9500, it just didn't make anymore power over 7800-8300+/- I want to replace the scooter engine /CVT with one of these engines. Build a swing arm to mount the engine and wheel to. Make it look factory as possible! Go from 50/82cc to over 200cc probably 212-225
Go go gadget very cool all the effort you put in to the things yall build keep up the good work like to see a new better 4x4 monster truck go kart build more advanced build
Yup a Chuck key for a lathe almost got me in high school. Safety glasses did nothing for protection and there wasn’t a piece bigger than a quarter left of them after the key struck me right between the eyes. Luckily I didn’t fall backwards on the running lathe behind me when I was knocked out by the blast. I woke to the shop teacher screaming at me with every vein in his body about to burst thru the skin “get the hell out of my classroom” so I did. I walked home with a broken bloody nose and yet I was thankful to be alive. Still passed the class but just barely and I was lucky to go unreported otherwise the shop doors for our school would have been closed for good had I told any one of authority. Happy to live and share this story, I know some were not so lucky. We didn’t have any of those “scare” videos back then to train us prior to hands on and I was never told to be aware of such dangers. He showed us many “no no’s” but not the Chuck key one that could have saved me that day.
I thought you guys should have learned by now the K &N style air filters only work on the asphalt. I learned decades ago from reading etc. an oil saturated foam filter is the only choice for off road. Millions of dirt bikes can't be wrong.
Nice job, think I got ya beat on the smooth cylinder though. 400ex picked it up dirt cheap. It had the battery in the airbox no filter. They said it'd get wet when they were swamping and stall. High dirt and swamp water diet. Cylinder was as shiny as a mirror.
If you put grease on the inside of that carburetor right as it transitions from the air filter to the carburetors put some grease in there and it'll trap all that dirt before it gets into your motor
Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for another great year!

That's a sweet combo for sure. The cam the guys are using is a custom Johnnie Berry cam with his cylinder head work for it. That cam is over .300 lift and near 270 degrees of duration. I have several, very spicy yet it'll ride very docile and make excellent torque.
Same cam as the Superhog and it got that baby up to 85 mph.
Holy crap!
You guys are awesome.
Yeahh!!! Happy new years
Always slide the feeler gauge in from the sides of the roller instead of with the roller as you will have a false reading every time.
A good air filtration system is key .
That grey sludgey paste in the crankcase looks like anti-sieze. People don't realize that if you add anti-sieze to your motor oil, it WILL size! LoL
Awsome start
you know stuffs serious when Ike busts out the dremel
Merry christmas guys
That is a really fun bike build!
I think we need more wheelies, maybe some projects with some bigger tires also 🚧
Happy New Year Everyone you guys really nailed it this year and this episode is proof.
You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
You got like three feet of air that time.
🚴♀🚴♂🚴
That is THEEEE dumbest movie ever, but I love it.
Need to run an pre-filter skin over the air filter pod
Yall need to get outer wears for those air filters. A pre-filter would have reduced if not eliminated the dust that made it into that engine.
Happy new year may it be blessed for yall
Wow, it's one of them new Tillotson liquid piston engines, lol!
54:10 I really like the new name of the “Shifter Cart” after moving the magnets down. 😁
Charles should take his truck round the track hahaha
Merry Christmas!, hey gotta say ,it’s about time you all work on a a minibikes with FULL SUSPENSION!!!
Happy new year you guys love the bike
Go go gadget very cool all the effort you put in to the things yall build keep up the good work like to see a new better 4x4 monster truck go kart build more advanced build
I saw a Porche/Audi transfer case and it's small,@ 12"x8" and could be used in a cross-cart very easily. Hint...
It sounds wicked
Shenanigans!!!
Merry Christmas
Happy new year.
Question? Have you guys ever run a centrifical clutch setup for 428 chain
Gotta love Texas sand. Gets into everything
How about a video about your daily drivers. Id watch as i am already interested in the vehicles i see in the background
YAHOO! My shitty day just got a lot better!
Real good acceleration. Impressive.
It would be nice if you could figure some way to do a snorkel set up like Jeeps have to keep the intake from sucking in dirt
