When people heard Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C”, it was like a neutron bomb went off… cats was mad when he didn’t make music for 10 years cause they love that song so much!!!!
I was about to comment this. When you think about It he’s literally In the conversation for top Emcees off that song. He’s like a poster child’s for this topic.
Exhibit C came on while I was in the car with my girl last week and I spent 10 mins explaining to her how hard hit the streets when it dropped….I just showed her your comment to drive the point home 😂
@@BSideRapReviews and an underrated part about this: New York and Philly cats was claiming this dude as the savior of East Coast music despite him being from Louisiana!!!!
Andre 3000 off of Aquemini. Two of my favorite verses ever for drastically different reasons. 1st for the imagery and metaphors. 2nd for the rhyme schemes and flow. In that song alone, 3K exhibits all the qualities needed to be in the GOAT conversation.
Have missed these conversations, the live shows you've been doing are good but nothing beats this classic dead end video style. The audio is on point and the energy is good
Exhibit C is as close as you get to an objective answer to that question, because. That song alone IMMEDIATELY put him in conversations he didn't belong, you would start seeing him pop in top all time lists. That was a moment in hip hop.
I agree with Rod on Kendrick's "Control" verse. He climbed the throne with that one and threw down the gauntlet to all his peers. The competitive spirit in Hip-Hop was so stale at the time, he legit sent a shockwave through the culture. Someone else in the comments mentioned "Heart Pt. 5" as well. That piece of art has a message that is so culturally imperative. And I know ppl love to hate Em, but "Darkness" is a modern storytelling masterpiece to me. Damn-near (if not all the way) perfect, with a brilliant balance of technical yet substantive writing 🤌🏾 I think this song alone solidifies him as one of the 🐐's.
I completely agree brother. I'm at the age of 40 and the passion behind his delivery on that track is phenomenal to me. Great song to workout to as well
A few that comes to mind: Benny - Crowns for Kings Drake - Tuscan Leather Jay Z - The Dynasty Intro Rick Ross - Devil in a New Dress Andre 3K - Sixteen Lil Baby - Wants and Needs Jay Elec - Exhibit C
RA the Rugged Man’s verse on Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story immediately came to mind! That verse gives me goosebumps to this day, and the flow is something else! Also: Book of Soul - Ab Soul Mural - Lupe Eminem - Renegade Pusha T - Drug Dealers Anonymous El-P (Company Flow) - The Fire in Which you burn
My picks off th e top of my head Jay Electronica- Exhibit C (CRAAAZYYYY) Kendrick Lamar- Sing About Me (one of the greatest written and thoughtful hip hop songs I’ve ever heard in my opinion) Eminem- Stan Lupe Fiasco- Mural (absolutely insane verse)
In no particular order: 1. Inspectah Deck on anything but particularly on Above the Clouds. 2. Royce on greed 3. Andre on international players anthem 3.5 Andre on Mighty"O"
1. Bizzy Bone's verse on "Notorious Thugs" 2. KRS One "My Philosophy" 3. Cappadonna's verse on "Winter Warz" 4. Big Pun's verses on "Deep Cover '98" 5. Redman "Tonight's Da Night" 6. The D.O.C. "Mind Blowin'" 7. 2Pac "All Eyez On Me" 8. Biggie's verse on "Can't Stop The Reign" 9. Scarface "Now I Feel Ya" 10. C-Murder "Where I'm From"
Everybody saying Mural but nobody really speak on why. Lupe's imagery in his Mural, the interweaving of several schemes (like 6-7 schemes) each of which Lupe keeps going with through the whole track with even single lines interweaving like three of them. The embedded riddles and double/triple entendres and even the overall message, all within a nonstop 8 minutes of lyrical beatdown. You know its something special when you hear others like Logic and Royce Da 59 try to go off on the same beat and fall way short not because their raps arent good but because of how high Lupe set the bars.
Thing is…Lu does this sh*t commonly. Of course he went crazy on Mural, it’s his Mona Lisa for sure…but it isn’t like he transformed; He just stepped it up a gear from his usual.
Man I haven't seen the El P interview yet but when I saw the topic for this video I honest to God chose his verse from Last Huzzah, that was around the time I got into both El P and Danny Brown, that remix blew my mind. Despot was on there too, and just showed back up in immaculate form on Aethiopes last year.
The track that immediately came to mind for me is O.C.’s “Times Up”. Such a hard hitting song and still has that effect to me over 25 years later… “YOU LACK THE MINERALS AND VITAMINS!”
Myke scrolling on insta while Feefo was talking had me laughing harder than i shoulda been especially since no one else noticed what he was doin 😆 14:00
This was a much more interesting conversation than from what I thought the title was saying..I thought it was saying who's a rapper who if you chose a single song would be considered the GOAT in rap.
When I heard “the rules” of the conversation my mind immediately went to mural like rod, so when he said it, i was like ecstatic. Also props to the exhibit c pick cause even in the song people was mad he wasn’t dropping music lol

Kendrick with Sing About Me / I'm Dying of Thirst. Runner up for me would be Daveed Diggs, probably with Story 2 or Blood of the Fang for a showcase of pure technical skill.
Kind of cheating since it's a group track, but Black Star's Respiration gotta be up there. Talib, Mos, and Common all had unbelievable verses and it's one of my favorite beats ever.
Jay Elec - Exhibit C Is the best answer. That one song put him In a class with the greats. Honorable mentions Andre - Sixteen (verse) Kendrick - Mortal Man Lupe - Mural Nas - N.Y. State of Mind
Booty Brown who raps on Gorillaz' "Dirty Harry" blacks tf out on his verse too, "I'm a peace-lovin decoy ready for retaliation" like come on. Another one of those verses that I think is just legend status

Rod was in his bag on this one.
Exhibit C and Murals are great examples
Props to Myke for mentionning Platinum Plus. BDK's closing line's still one of my favorites ever.
Danny Brown - 30
That verse just captures everything that makes hip hop great to me in one verse
"tears in my eyes lemme get this off my chest"
That voice crack 😭
Beat me to it.

A few that comes to mind:
Benny - Crowns for Kings
Drake - Tuscan Leather
Jay Z - The Dynasty Intro
Rick Ross - Devil in a New Dress
Andre 3K - Sixteen
Lil Baby - Wants and Needs
Jay Elec - Exhibit C

Tuscan Leather is a great call for Drake. I was thinking 0-100 but Tuscan leather stands stronger by itself
Lil Wayne -GOSSIP

the thing is if Sing About Me was Kdots only song it would not make sense as GKMCs story would not be around so people would not fw it as much
Mural definitely that one from Lupe in my eyes
I think it goes unsaid but the underlying background music yall have in every video really sets this cool laidback vibe.

Lupe- Twilight Zone

Jay- Hovi Baby
Big Boi- 2 Dope Boyz (In a Cadillac)

That Nosetalgia verse is nuts. His 9 out of 10 scheme is one of the greatest I’ve ever heard.
@@st.christopher7614 so dope! Dissect broke down that verse. Check it out if you haven't already

Big Sean and Kendrick have collabed since Control but only on a DJ Khaled album

Prodigy on Apostle’s Warning
Phife Dawg - Buggin Out
Drake - 6pm in New York
Logic - Dead Presidents III
Kendrick - Sing About Me
