    WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO SIT UNDER OUR DECK ON OUT WALK OUT WITH OUT GETTING RAINED ON. WE PRICED THE STUFF FROM TIMBER TECH AND THE REST OF THEM. THERE PRICES ARE OUTRAGEOUS, IN MY OPIONION, AND WE HEARD OF PEOPLE USING BARN SIDING UNDER THEIR DECKS, WE WATCHED A FEW YOU TUBE VIDEOS AND THOUGHT WE COULD DO THAT, SO WE WENT TO MENARDS AND LOOKED AT ALL THE BARN SIDING AND BARN SIDING ACCESSORIES, FORMULATED A PLAN, AND PUT IT UP, HERE IS THE RESULT. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THERE ARE 3 PARTS TO THIS VIDEO, IT WILL SHOW MOST OF THE PARTS IF YOU WATCH ALL THREE, EVENTUALLY THE LINK TO PART TWO WILL SHOW UP IN THIS DESCRIPTION, SO LOOK FOR IT, SUBSCRIBE AND YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED AUTOMATICALLY, THANKS, MIKE

    Thank you to you and your wife for these videos. I am now on my 3rd time of watching to see if I've gotten all your tips and tricks written down. I've watched many, many of these videos about this type of project and yours by far is the most precise, detailed and your results are the proof.

    I love your wife's suggestion about putting the old sock on the 2 x 4 end to protect the siding. We women think of stuff like that!

      OKAY.... I WILL TRY TO HELP HERE..... I BOUGHT THESE AT MENARDS HERE IN MICHIGAN, ITS KINDA LIKE A HOME DEPOT... WHAT IT IS IS ALUMINUM SIDING, TYPICALLY FOR A GARAGE OR BARN.... I THINK I HAD ABOUT 2OO SQUARE FEET AND IT COST AROUND 450.00, I DIDNT HAVE IT DELIVERED, I PICKED IT UP IN A FLAT BED TRUCK I BORROWED FROM WORK, IF YOU ORDERED THESE PANELS REALLY LONG LIKE I DID, BE VERY CAREFUL TRANSPORTING THEM, THEY BEND REALLY EASY.... WOW, THANKS FOR YOUR INTREST AND COMMENTING AND SUBSCRIBING, I REALLY APPRECIATE, I HOPE THIS HELPS, MIKE

    Amazing video! I really appreciate the rodent control screens you put it. A bunch of squirrels made a nest under mine, and ate away the deck joists almost completely through! Now I have to rebuild the under deck roofing system. I was wondering if you would post a link to the J trim that you used. I can't seem to find the correct trim. Thanks again for posting!!! Extremely helpful.

      Hey, thanks for commenting, i dont really have a link i can give you but if you have a Menard's near you or a really giant super hardware store it should be easy to find.... i literally didnt know what exactly i was going to use until i got to the hardware store... i would imagine if you went to Menards web site and punched in J-channel it just might show up... and yes you are right, i didnt use any caulk on the panels, there design is for a roof, and its overlapping, the design is so the caulk isnt neccessary, the only place where i had some small leaks was on the brick....where i used the J channel bracket to hold the panels, i would put caulk behind that if i had to do it over...hope this helps, thanks again for subscribing, liking, and commenting...Mike

      oh yeah, about the critters.... i was mainly trying to keep the birds away, omg, they kept nest all around my deck and every nook and cranny that wasnt covered they would put a nest there, so this has worked, i am not sure about squirrels though, those buggers are pretty strong, you might have to try a different solution, i know that right now through the deck board weep holes i still get some wasps, and every summer i am spraying wasp killer thru the weep holes, it seems to work , but overall i am thrilled not only how well it works, but the massive amounts of cash i saved not buying the brand name underdeckment....good luck on your project, shoot me any questions you might have, Mike

    I also added metal roof panels under my deck to drain the rain. I have a 12 X 14 deck and I attached to 2X green treated spacers to get the slope. The rain drains but when people walk on the deck the panels sound like a drum. Did / do you have that problem? How id you solve the noise issue?

    • @michaelmason636
      @michaelmason636  4 роки тому +1

      My deck joist support boards are 2x12's, dont hear any noise.....hmmm, never had that problem, maybe i dont have enough friends over to test that theory out...lol.... i know the screws i used to attach them were the ones they recomend using with the barn siding.... they have a rubber washer on them, maybe thats the trick, i reallly dont know... sorry, Thanks for subscribing and commenting and liking the video... i really appreciate it.... i will contemplate this question some more and get back to you... Also, it doesn't look like you put silicone caulk in between the panels where they join. Have you had any water leakage between panels? I would like to not place caulk in case I need to remove panels to clean. Thanks Michael!

    I'm in Michigan too. Wondering if it makes sense to flip the panels so water can flow better ? Any thoughts/comments. Nice job

      Hey, thanks for commenting, liking and subscribing... either way is fine... if you check out the end profile you can imagine the water immediately filling up the small triangle valley then filling the large area in between the small 'V' valleys, either way is acceptable, however it is barn siding so one side is made to go to the outside of the barn, but for this application it doesnt matter, it is almost 7 years since i installed it and it is awesome, the money savings alone made it all worthwhile, i could replace it almost 4 times before it would meet the price of the brand name underdeckment, and absolute best thing i ever did, thanks for your intrest, Mike

      Sorrry it took so long to reply....but i purchased everything including the matching screws at MENARDS.....We had to special order these panels and actually pay for the pallet which we got the money back on the pallet when we returned it to the store, i think i spell it out even more detail at the beginning of this video. Great video. I am in part of the US that gets quite a bit of rain and wondering if this would work for our deck. How is yours holding up after 5 years. Have you put any further thought into whether it might have been good to flip the panels over on the install?

    • @michaelmason636
      @michaelmason636  4 роки тому

      Okay, my wife and i just talked about this in regards to your question, the panels are actually for roofing and siding, so we positioned them on the side that was meant to be installed facing the elements, in other words, if it is installed normally like on a barn or house, the decorative color side would be up facing the elements, so thats the way we installed it, and lucky for us that was the color we wanted.... to this day i have had no problems with water coming down and out the other end to the gutter.... hmm, perhaps i can take a picture on my cell phone and send it to you of the end of the panels where the water drops into the gutters i installed.....of course where and how would i send it to you? Thanks, Mike maybe they will let me give you my email....it is masons2go at yahoo, i think maybe you could extrapalate what that address is.....Mike

    Wouldn’t it have been better to flip the panels upside down? The way you have them installed only the small Channels can transport the water. The wider channels will be dammed by the perpendicular wood slope strips

    Hey Mike, I found your 3 part under deck siding video to be very informative! And after doing some research on other ideas and costs of other systems, it's what I'm going to do as well. Just a quick question about the j-channels. How did you anchor those against the back wall and the sides?

    • @michaelmason636
      @michaelmason636  4 роки тому

      okay, just had a chance to read your comment, it was done a while ago and i tend to forget how i did things, let me look at it and get back to you, i am gonna go downstairs today and i will take a look, sorry i took so long to reply...... look for anorther reply sometime today or tommorrow, thanks, Mike hmmmmm......

      Okay, now i remember, in the back where the doorwall is, i cut a strip from a pressure treated 2x4 The width of the sil plate by 1" thick, you may want to make yours thinner or thicker depending on what thickness your boards are as you go towards the gutter at the end, and on the sides i did the same thing except i increased the thickness as i got closer to the gutter with spacers that i cut to make it wider as i got closer to the gutter. Of course i screw these to the bottom of the sil plate of the original deck, i did discuss this a little in Part 02 starting time at 1:30 . I would be more than willing to send a small video clip with an explanation via text, i will try to keep it less than a minute, not sure if my phone number will come thru this, if it doesnt, try my email first at masons2go@yahoo. com and send me your phone number, good luck on your project, and i hope this helps, thank you for subscribing... i subscribed to your channel.... and thanks for commenting and liking the video, Pipefittermike on you tube

      okay i remember to if you watch that section of the video, you can see how i screwed the cut 2x4 up into the deck sil plate....good luck

    • @michaelmason636
      @michaelmason636  3 роки тому +1

      and of course after you screw the cut 2x4 to the sill plate then you screw the j-channel to it, i used some 3/4" self tapping lath plated screws to screw it to the cut 2x4.... Mike
