Man I'm really feelin' it tonight - can hear Stevie singing it! This is the song I listened to for hours the day he died...still seems like just yesterday.
Live without you is the song Stevie was closing his shows with, just before he passed. This is my absolute fav Stevie song, and I like to think it was one of his. The guitar parts have so much soul, just by themselves. Then, you add Stevie's sensitive voice, and wow! Love the cover.
I was blessed to see Stevie & Dbl Trouble 's full closer set at the Benson & Hedges Blues Festival i think it was 2 maybe 3 weeks before he was killed in Wisconsin. Joe Cocker was fantastic then SRV and Dbl Trouble brought the fucking house down... between this song, Lenny, and Riviera Paradise... GODdamn... what a show!. I'd been a huge fan for years yet only seen him 1x before, he played w/ Paul Schaeffer & David Letterman show band for a week of shows here in LA at the (RIP) Universal Amphitheater & I was at a cpl of the tapings. Like Lennon, Chris Cornell, Elvis, Neil Peart, I will always remember exactly where I was when the news of their passing hit me.. Godspeed Stevie. Never forget Brilliant cover Sean, as usual.... JAYsus!
Wow thanks for that obscure fact. You're the only SRV fan who knows what he was closing sets with before he passed. Do you happen to know what john mayer was closing sets with during his continuum tour? What about Eric Clapton?
Just DAMN, son. There's only ONE person I've heard since 1990 that comes close to capturing Stevie's touch, and that's Tommy Katona of Texas Flood. Now there are TWO. So many people have tried to capture Stevie Ray's tone, but the equipment was only a piece of it. What he had, and what you and Tommy have, is an instinctive feel - both hands working together, the right as important as the left, connected straight to the heart. This is just utterly sublime, and I'm grateful to have this come up in my feed.
What makes this guy so good is the embellishments. All those little random extra licks and voicings he throws in there. That’s a hard thing to learn. On some other level man.
This Song was originally written as a “ farewell “ to one of Stevie’s dear friends and crew member as I recall, and it wasn’t very long after his Recovery period when he got clean & sober from all his years of Alcohol & drug abuse days. It really hit him & the rest of his band members pretty hard . Stevie would always talk about how life was better with people who love you in it and I’d like to think he’s loving this version of yours right now Sean. To say your playing has just gotten better & better over the last year or so since I found your channel & subscribed would be an understatement!! Knocked this one so far outta the park that it’s still flying somewhere. Thanks. Looking forward to your further endeavors Mr. Mann 😎👍
It was for Charley Wirz the one who sold him Number 1 and made Charley for him the white Frankenstein strat w lipstick danelectro pickups. He was like a mentor and dad to Stevie
@@SapphireSmith-b4s Stevie actually bought his “# 1 “ Strat from Ray Hennig’s music store as has been documented by Ray before his passing and several other sources , but you are correct about The song being written about Charley . I met Jimmy Vaughan about 7 years ago in Austin Texas at the Museum there when he graciously loaned a bunch of SRV memorabilia for a huge display there , and just to be in his presence and see and be around all his brothers gear & guitars and outfits and all was life changing for me . Never will there be another like him, but Sean here has his music down to a “ T” 😎👍. Keep rocking it Mate .
This SRV song is close to my heart. I'm in a battle fighting the big C right now, but despite the obstacles, this song specifically reaches out to me and tells me to hold on, keep on fighting and believe in myself. I think of my family and friends who i lost, but i think more of the one's who are living right now and encouraging me to do the same. Last year, i got my 1st ever 60's hybrid Strat to keep me going. Somehow, Stevie's music and blues in general has always been something close to my heart. Thanks, Sean, for sharing the music. Keep up the good work, brother.
The live life without you stevie hits the nastiest licks ever played. I've listened to that one version 100s of times. I think it's posted by Duke nukem
I firstly heard you in the SRV little wing cover, and loved and admired how you perform and play, jaw dropped and willing to take my guitar and play just the half of good as you do incorporating all the Hendrix and SRV vibes. Bravo Sean!
The thing I love most about your playing is that although you can pretty much shred, you reserve that for when it is warranted. That is a mark of true musicianship. Love your work!
They often say, you got to play through the changes. Well... i like to see how your right hand is dancing through the rhythm. Just brilliant to watch. Must be terribly difficult to get that under your belt. It's just what makes this cover, worthwhile to watch.
Oh how I wish I wasn't 73. This playing is just SO inspiring and so beautiful. Way too late for me though. But, hey, thank you so much Sean - the tremendous hours of practise have so paid off and brought such pleasure to us wannabee's.
I just want to say you are incredible. Every time I watch you play it inspires me to pick up my guitar. You literally have done covers of all the songs that I love, keep doing you!
Your relationship with your guitar shows a real loving connection . Your skills are of those that have spent a lifetimes experience enjoying playing. A local blues artist Kevin brown has been playing throughout my lifetime . He did a lockdown set acoustically and it was noticeable that he had picked up some thrills that were pretty to the ear.
Wow! I love this video...this man's rendition is SO clean and precise! And he is a MASTER string bender!! I had no idea that SRV used this technique in this classic and Sean Mann pulls it off amazingly! Thank you sir for this post!!!
Soooo freekin' sweet. It's like musical nectar dripping off them strings. Action. Touch. Rhythm. Style. Tuning. These are the ingredients to make music like Sean Mann. Anyone with an ear has to agree that this young Mann has chops as strong as Eric, Stevie, and - - Dare I say --?? J1M1 !!?!?!! Better than most. Better than most anyone on the planet. I'm juss sayin. 🎵
Actually despite hendrix’s prowess , he wasn’t that sweet a lead player , since he dug in so deep and overused the whammy , trem systems are nothing like today and mechanically cruder . Hendrix’s magic was pulling awesome melodies from only a few chords using every trick at his disposal. But if we all put our cards on the table - we can agree that Hendrix dug in too deep for sweet lead work and overdid it with unison bends , but made up for it with insane double stops, Glisses ,grace notes and vicious hammer ons and pull offs . SRV could also dig in hard when he wanted to , but in most cases resolved the phrase making it melodic , whereas Hendrix would disappear into a 30min jam - in E 🤷♂️
Wow! The way you make that guitar talk to you. The variation of sounds and speeds is incredible. Saw a video of Bettencourt yesterday talking about how hard it is for him to play every note. Without mentioning names he should his jealousy of guys that make it look so easy and I immediately thought of you. Your flow is extraordinary. Love the choice of sounds.
immense. your sheer talent and creativity is breathtaking. But owning the swagger to pull off 7:42 of flawless soloing with such beautiful dynamics and attack can only be equal parts dedication and very hard work. Loved every last bit, but that little 5 second stroll in the sun starting at 5:00 almost caused me to crash this morning during my commute as i played it back 5-6 times while driving … just so damn good. ❤

Any chance you could show your 2024 setup in a video? Would be nice to see how you record and put it all together!
Sean, What in your opinion is the easiest SRV song to learn when starting to learn his style?
Agreed, we guitar players know whose best and you are tops mann

Brilliant song wrote for him my Doyle bramhall along with change it ,life by the drop.
Reese Wyman's said hardest song to play on keys that had had to get Stevie to tone down abit of the chromatism somewhat.

Tears running down my face beautiful
I listen to a lot of SRV. This is the first time anyone has duplicated that feeling. Amazing!!!!!
So impressive, it's almost like Stevie is still with us. ❤
Wow thanks!
One of my all time favorite tracks from him, especially live.
Great feel-so many SRV feels. This is the only player I've found that gives me authentic SRV feels.
Thanks Tyler!

Wow! SRV reincarnated! Great talent. I’ve been playing for decades and haven’t reached to this level, wish to. Back to practicing. Thank you for this.
