A former Additional Superintendent of Police in the Manipur police department has levelled the most damaging charge against Chief Minister Biren Singh - that he is not fighting the illegal drug trade and illegal poppy cultivation but “He is part of it. He is part of the drug cartel. He is protecting them. He is their patron.” Thounaojam Brinda has recounted in detail a story she had earlier told to Tamal Saha of News The Truth about how in June 2018 the Chief Minister made repeated attempts, including “illegal” ones, to get her to release a drug lord she had caught in possession of lakhs worth of drugs.

Dear Karan,
I've been following her for the last six months or so. I first heard about her when someone mentioned her resignation from a top class job. I awed her, applauded her, praised her. I thought those incidents were the epitome of a sad but true story but it only goes to show how little did I know. I have a feeling that she's in a trajection towards the top. Lets say, halfway on a journey. What I know is that all the corrupted big guns are afraid of her. They are petrified! They must be whining and groaning about not deliberately keeping her away or about not persuading her to be on their side. Anyhow.... They are now pretty sure that she's not the type you persuade with money or other expensive worldly things. She's not the type who will do anything for you if her promotion is assured. Instead, she is a person with principle. A person none could lure away from her principles. A person who will stand for the things she believed in.
I really admire her courage. She was a top level police officer and I am convinced that she's truly aware of the danger she puts herself into because of her patriotic mindset. She is aware of the capabilities of the Big Guns but she won't flinch. No, she just won't flinch. She is not afraid. She's not scared nor petrified because she believe in her cause. She is Manipuri and love Manipur. Her love for her land gave her all the courage she needs. Unfortunately she no linger has the power as a police officer to fight for her cause. Still, it won't let her give way. She will fight with all the power she has. As of now, the Medias are her main weapon and the people are her power.

At this prevailing situation where ethnic groups counterstriking against each other, Meitei will firmly stand and accept all the facts & truth that comes out on the table for a noble cause (for one Manipur) Now that Brinda revealing all the truth against the system which the victim held to be of same ethnic group(Meitei) is perceived valid but if the culprit happens to be from other ethnic groups, it always translate to as if meitei attacking a minority group or hostility against them.
