In a powerful and passionate interview, Manipur’s most highly regarded playwright and director has said that if the Prime Minister or Home Minister ask him to initiate a truth and reconciliation process in Manipur he would be prepared to consider doing so. Ratan Thiyam said he is “heartbroken” by the tragedy unfolding in Manipur but cannot believe the anger between the Kuki and the Meitei communities has gone so far and deep that they cannot be reconciled.
In a 30-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Mr. Thiyam, who is both a former Chairperson and former Director of the National School of Drama, said he cannot understand the Prime Minister’s silence and the PM’s refusal to talk about Manipur in Sunday’s Mann Ki Baat, though he did find time to speak about the cyclone in Gujarat and even the Emergency, which is 40-years old. Mr. Thiyam said the Prime Minister seems to have turned his back on Manipur just when it needs him the most. The PM either doesn’t understand the gravity of the crisis or doesn’t care. What other conclusion can there be?

After May 3, Kangvai was burnt, then sugnu, then Kangpokpi villages waves after waves. Today is 22nd, June, it is 1:00 am now, and here I can't sleep because attacks are happening in our villages at Yaingangpokpi, Gwaltabi Kuki and Mongneljang. Whenever meiteis don't instigate these attacks it is quite and calm everywhere in Manipur. And the main reasons for these attacks happening is also meitei womenfolks I am mentioning them specifically, not every meitei women but those who are hindering the ARMY on their way to these attack zones. How are we going to have peace when one is already on defence since the first day and the other is on attack with agenda, and that goes unchecked. It is very communal, if were Ratan Thiam Kuki he couldn't speak without being communal. Ths lives lost on May 3rd is enough, why are meiteis so hellbent on trying to wipe us all out? Be critical of your community's actions.

I am a proud Indian and a manipuri... I have watch every interview of Mr Thapar on the crisis in Manipur and try to understand the situations in depth in a holistic way... I ignore the parts which speaks senseless and one-sided views which tries to bring out only their own interest, let it be a meitei or Kuki... But Mr Thapar have been listening to all of them and was trying to understand each and every thing and find some link in common which can lead to restore peace... With man like Ratan Thiyam by his side, Thapar can bridge the emotional gap between the two communities, bring them together to a peaceful dialogue to find an amicable solution. I urge Mr Thapar to consider initiating a dialogue between the two, not just interview for the viewers.

Since then it's been ur aim to have a separate state. Remember it was the meiteis who stood in between n stopped the crisis. Dr Ratan Thiyam has been crying and appealing for peace ever since the violence broke out.
Reading the history of Singapore, their was not very different from what we are going through in Manipur, but one man became a PM of the tiny nation Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who brought the changes 60 years ago and it is one of the top most developed nation in the world.
We need a leader, who has love for its people, when such person becomes a PM for the nation and CM of the state, they may able to turn state like Manipur into a peaceful nation like Singapore.
Dr. Ratan Thiyam is not a politician, just a writer and an actor, perhaps, state like ours, need non politician who does not distinguish between race, tribe, religious to lead the most needed political head of the state.
Who might have thought 60 years ago about Singapore becoming what it is today. Ours can also be when we push a button that is needed the most of the hour.

When their stock of lies is exhausted, not because they cannot invent anymore but even the new ones are consistently refuted over and over again. What and who could they turn to? They began to realise the one and the mastermind of all these carnage was not helping anymore, his press conference and appeal for peace fell into deaf ears just like the cries of the tribals for life didn't find his.
Now, they turn on against each other for they have none to turn on since they've swept the valley clean of their "hill rivals". They once again came to their senses, that their project of ethnic cleansing is all but futile. Their last resort? Cry for peace !! they tell each other. Steal their stories, keep the truth at bay, call them whatever names at least to console themselves for the departed in Khamenlok.
Their Lord and their god whom their leaders once claim to worship, now at the corridor of the forces they disrespected at Kangla, praying for refuge like the thousands of Kuki-Zos whom he despised.
The table has turned, not by the small Kuki-Zos but by their living God who will and continue to hear the cries of the helpless. He will wipe away their tears, He will raise them again from the ashes, He will purge them from the sins of their fathers and deliver them from death.

We have faith in people like sir Ratan but the all power is in the hands of Biren and right wings. We have reached the point of no return. When houses were burnt, there was still hope. when men were killed, there was still hope. But when kuki daughters were raped and murdered in Imphal, when a mother and child was burnt alive led by meira paibis, that was when all hope was over. we have reached the point of no return. I appreciate your aspiration for peace but we have been physically and psychologically separated completely. Now only political separation is yet to be finalized. We can be good Neighbors.
