I wish you stayed in this place for longer, leveling just goes by too quickly these days. It's a shame, Tanaris held that lost in the desert feeling it had pre-Cataclysm and it was a joy to feel lost in it.
Tanaris is one of my favorite places to level on Kalimdor. Its just a massive desert that seems to stretch on for miles. The first time I ever set foot in it, I had to run through Thousand Needles, back before it was flooded. I ran through Zul'Farrak and did the quest to get the stupid mallet just to summon Gahz'rilla, and did the quest to get the carrot on a stick. So many great memories. I felt a sense of real danger when I first got to Tanaris, like if I dared to leave the safety of Gadgetzan, I would be killed by either a Sandfury troll, a Horde soldier, an ogre, a Scorpid, or die of thirst in the hot sun, and even after the Cataclysm, I still love this zone.
I'm astonished over that people does not approve of this song in Tanaris. Why? It fits perfect! I mean just look at the loneliness, the emptyness and mysteries in Tanaris and then combine that with the music!
Deserts being surrounded by water are not uncommon in reality. What matters is how air currents direct cloud cover (or lack of cloud cover.) Much of the Sahara desert is surrounded by oceans. Deserts form from the near impossibility of clouds and rainfall to reach that particular region. Whether that be mountains blocking the flow of clouds, or hot air currents or fronts from the equator. Considering Tanaris' location, it is probably due to currents of hot air that never reach beyond the boundary to Un'Goro.
The desert of Nevada and doubtlessly further east is probably a good example of mountains blocking the movement of clouds, namely the Sierra Nevada mountains.
it actually makes sense: if we consider the air currents to cause the desertification of the area, that itself is an occurence that is about to happen in the country I live, in fact, a king some centuries ago predicted it and started to plant many pine trees to prevent the ocean air from ''burning'' the land and keep the land from drying. This method has been also employed in many other places for sthe same reason also, there are tropical forests that occur cuz the mountains force the air to lift and condense the clounds wich leads to heavy rainfalls... similar to what we have in Un'goro. The greatest example we have is how the amazon forest come to exist thanks to the Andes mountains
0:00 - 2:48 Listen to this with a high quality headset and close your eyes... You're literally transported into the vast plains of Tanaris while mounted on your Mechano-hog.
This music is produced by none other than David Arkenstone... This song really represents a time lost landscape...perfecty for tanaris indeed.. It really makes you go back into time..into the medieval/fantasy realm.... Blizzard really did a good job with this game... its gonna be the best game seen in a while
Good lord this is incredible, especially those vocals - melancholic, eerie, and lonely... you can just about feel the harsh and cold winds of Tanaris down your back. The nostalgic feeling is perfect because of the Cataclysm's effect. Like another comment states, I'm amazed that people don't like this one very much. If they kept the original music here, I think it would've been too sinister for the current Tanaris. This one is perfect for the here-and-now.
Jake Moffatt I played since Vanilla, mate. I know the old Tanaris well. But the Cataclysm came, and so did water to a desert, which defies logic in and of itself. Like I said, this is for what's happened now, not what lies in the past.
+Desa Iree - I don't think that water coming to the desert defies logic when tsunami's practically hit Azeroth, along with Deathwing messing everything up with hurricane-like wings.. @christiandoritos - I don't think the wind would be cold because of water dude XD
Just played through this zone and the vanilla music still plays but less often. The vanilla music is just generic desert music though and it plays in a bunch of places such as desolace and silithus. There's nothing to miss really.
The part from 10:05 on is the only reason why I level all my characters in this zone. While that beautiful part plays, Tanaris is the best zone in the game for me. I kind of understand now why did the Bronze Dragonflight choose Tanaris as their home province where they stand eternal watch over Azeroth's timelines from the Caverns. They saw that Blizzard will create this soundtrack and wanted to be firmly entrenched there by that time :D
I remember being escorted to old Tanaris for the first time...back on my level 40 warlock...I still remember the feeling of being in this desert, with the moonlight reflecting down on it, and thinking how amazing it was. The music at 4:10 onward captured that feeling so well. Phenomenal piece.
4:09 this part fills me with some form of dread. I imagine being lost in the desert on the brink of exhaustion only to see creepy figures looming at the edges of the sand all around you. Great score.
Chilling winds sweep across the desert, creating an eerie howling noise that leaves an icy sense of hopelessness. The night shy shines down, every star visible in striking detail as the moon slices through the sky as thin as a claw, casting a cold light across the dark sand. The frosty desert seem to go on for miles in every direction, with no sign of any life or civilization. What do you do?
when i hear this music i feel alone. like im wondering through the desert with miles and miles of the sandy sea and nothing but ruins and more desert in every direction. blizz man your really outdid yourself with this zone.
One of my favourite maps in wow since old times (TBC to be exact) i'll never forget the relaxing lvl up nights i got from tanaris my wow days are long over since but the feelings are always there..
I always loved the original Tanaris music, it felt so epic and sinister. I was pretty sceptical when i heard it was a new track, but within a few seconds I was assaulted by the pure win of this music... its pretty breathtaking.
The thing is, when you first hear the music it doesn't mean anything and you don't feel much from it. Time passes. It's only after you leave that area, it becomes the past, you lose friends and make new ones. You play in a different continent - you think about the old times and this music will remind you and thus you get nostalgia!
lets all agree both the tanaris tracks are good in there own ways, this new one is very much like the old track at around 6:40 it gives me goosebumps and shows the mystery of the zone very well. though i personally think the beginning to this new track is too happy and upbeat, tanaris will always be a desolate, mysterious, dangerous silithid infested craphole, but at least the music never dissapoints !
+Aidan McLaren I loved the old track, it was the perfect score for walking under a scorching sun alone, lost in an immense, deadly and unforgiving desert. This new track sounds more like a beautiful relaxing oasis, where you hang out on a wellness retreat. It's actually a good image on how the game has evolved (or devolved as one sees it) - from pretty harsh to much more easy and friendly.
+truksi I would disagree. The music may be relaxing in its own way but its more sad than anything. Which describes the Cataclysm in general and how the land was devastated from the event. Most of the Cata music is this way. And personally I love it :)
Doesn't this music conjure up ideas of a tragic event, like the lands of Tanaris are lamenting the loss of a great hero or something similar? I love it, it's brilliant.
I dozed off for a moment while listening to this. I lie to you not, I was in a dream surrounded by a desert. It's funny how sounds can affect your dreams.
I stopped playing right before Cataclysm. Shortly into Wrath. I never experienced the ice of Northrend or the breaking of the world. I don't want to say they were ruined - change happens, but I'd rather remember these places as they once were. I was with them since the beginning. R.I.P. My wacky old man Forsaken. You're in a better place, I'm sure.
Cata quest chains though were very fun. Alliance side Twilight highlands were fantastic and kept me going to the end. And of course Vashir was a masterpeice zone.
I have to listen to this more, but I used to love the old music for Tanaris. It was very atmospheric to me and still brings back memories of leveling my first character all the way up, years ago. Still, I'm not opposed to revamping all the music in the game, it's pretty impressive that they are putting so much effort into Cataclysm. I'm surprised more and more each week.
I remember when as a horde faction at perennial level 20 I managed, on foot, to get near Stormwind 😂😂I was crazy but it was worth it pff and even in the desert I continued to explore, I explored the whole world wow on foot from lvl 20 😂❤
Thank you for posting this, I pay attention to music in wow everytime I play, and I couldn't not notice this particular song (the begining part) in Tanaris.
Not much lore? Personally I'm extremely blown away by the amount of back writing they've done for Pandaria. It has a really rich history and the stories you play through are very interesting and refreshingly different. And the Brewery is just a fun and light hearted instance, they aren't all like that.
The comment section for "wow in-game music" is actually quite shocking... No one bitching at each other, (for the most part) and just people reminiscing of their past wow experiences. I think we can all agree, World of Warcraft will always be apart of us one way or another.
It always reminded me of the song from ME2 Overlord. Especially with the vocals. I love it. I would usually just stay in one place and listen to the song.
@nakenmil I think its a great piece. I'm a proud player of World of Warcraft and have been for 5 years strong. I love all of their pieces......So thank you. (:
@therightp4th I just visited the new 1k needles. And man it was really cool, before that place was such a drag, now, to see the place in ruins, exploring the zone underwater, it was an awesome feeling. And the quests are not half as boring as they used to be. To hell with the old salt flats, long live the new flooded zone!
in some ways, i think tat the vocals in the beginning refer to Uldum: it have this ancient egypt feel to it, and since Uldum is Azeroth's egypt, it's doors are connecting to Tanaris, for me this part of the music is reffering that an ancient world forgotten of all have returned within the desert of this part of Kalimdor
All I know is, I was going about doing my random casual WoW stuff and this first soundtrack suddenly hit me in the face, that was an interesting experience and why I went here in the first place, it's pretty magical :o
@Jaricko My only concern at the moment is upon seeing the damage/dps numbers bring produced even at 80 I don't think even the increased health pools at 85 are going to be enough. I just hope they do balance things out at 85, if so then it could be the best exp made.
Everytime i level a new alt, i always get excited when i know it's soon time to level in Tanaris. I don't know why but it's probably the only area that i never get bored with.
Could you tell me these war parallels? I'm not saying you're wrong, just that i'm curious and am interested to know. Warcraft lore is enormous... having played warcraft 3 before WoW, and then experiencing the huge amount of detail. traversing through tanaris or wandering into the plaguelands, so much mystery and depth. I still get distant memories of these places, and when I first experienced them.
it was also a night elf "country" (or maybe it s older, and it was high efl place too),but there are several places that were a night elf tplace, like felwood,un goro crater, winterspring, mount hyjal,desolace,ashenvale...and so
I have to say I was resistant at first to all of the changes that were being made. I'm glad I gave it a chance. The new talents, the epic, EPIC music that was redone for all zones. Truly they did a good job. Some of the old music will be missed, but damn, not for long with this new epic music :D
@Inujosha Much of the old music can still be heard from time to time - it plays some of the new and some of the old, to keep a balanced experience. I like that.
eh.... Whatever the old music was this was way better. Tanaris as it is now would be too peaceful, the old music is apparently sinister (from what i've heard) and would not fit the zone.
@laurent992 what you mean is a "soundscape", which does not include only music. above that is atmosphere, where soundscape matches the visuals in any aspect as perfect as possible. soundscape includes music, sound effects, ambient sound, sound timing and their contrast to each other. regarding music as support to ambience, the cataclysm - or what i heard of it so far - music is top notch. i have to admint, it is not the *best* i have seen so far, but it is extraordinary good.
it's so awesome flying over tanaris with this playing, though i personally think tanaris is filled with too much life for a desert. scorpions, giant wasps, basalisks, rocs, and hyenas everywhere you look and it's near impossible to avoid them.
When I want to learn the storyline I will do Loremaster, which as it turns out is right now. Every time I quit this game I come back because of the lore and I always burn out because no one cares about it and everyone just plays the game like a robot only focusing on the sport aspect of the game and not the art. Now I am OBSESSED with getting loremaster just to show off to all the robots in this game that I care much more about the actual heart of this game than any nerd ever will.
good god part from 0:00 - 1:25 is beautiful!
The volcals are so great! I don't know why people play wow without the music!
Despite playing classic, I'd much rather listen to this while levelling in Tanaris
Cata did cannibalize too much but there are some wins, tanaris is a big one
I remember Tanaris... this place and Shimmering Flats, they made me feel so lonely...
I wish you stayed in this place for longer, leveling just goes by too quickly these days. It's a shame, Tanaris held that lost in the desert feeling it had pre-Cataclysm and it was a joy to feel lost in it.
***** ditto mari. i loved LOVED tanaris. i spent hours of my life in that place with my dorf hunter... epic place forever in my memories

Tanaris was amazing for lvling, and actually I enjoyed feeling lost in the desert xD

Plus, pre-cata's soundtrack for Tanaris screamed NOPE!
The old soundtrack still plays just less often. It's that weird insect-like music that plays in silithus and desolace.
Kind of like a love life.
Deserts being surrounded by water are not uncommon in reality. What matters is how air currents direct cloud cover (or lack of cloud cover.) Much of the Sahara desert is surrounded by oceans. If You See, deserts are actually really big beaches
The irony is, most of the deserts use to be part of the osean
I do believe that's called a rain shadow desert. An example would be Somalia in Africa i think.
@@TheAquaAuthor The American deserts are mostly rain shadows
The desert of Nevada and doubtlessly further east is probably a good example of mountains blocking the movement of clouds, namely the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Listen to this with a high quality headset and close your eyes...
You're literally transported into the vast plains of Tanaris while mounted on your Mechano-hog.
The vocals are worth enough for me to pay gold if they set up Toll gates at the entrance to Tanaris
This music is produced by none other than David Arkenstone...
This song really represents a time lost landscape...perfecty for tanaris indeed.. It really makes you go back into time..into the medieval/fantasy realm....

+Desa Iree Dude it's not meant to be harsh and cold winds.. It's Tanaris! Blistering hot sun!
Bring back the old soundtracks, far better than this!

RIP to the two small isles south of Land's End Beach.
+3DTyrant i'm glad somebody else remembers those islands :D
Just relaxing to how beautiful the music is
See video description
Laugh at stupid description
Ruin my relaxed mood
made my day :D :D :D :D

One of the only things about the cataclysm world changes that I liked. The music!
One of my favourites songs in WoW.
This is sooo BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Ikr it's amazing.
Pre cata Tanaris was the definition of thug life ^^
kek, I played a rogue in vanilla, always had a very bounty hunter feel to it down there.
not sure why, but tanaris is my fav place in wow
I guess is the awesome light and colors, it appears so peaceful...
Attila Rácz so lonely yet mysterious
Wandering the desert, all alone...
4:09 this part fills me with some form of dread. I imagine being lost in the desert on the brink of exhaustion only to see creepy figures looming at the edges of the sand all around you. Great score.
miss these days. cataclysm was a good time to play the game and level up through a new world again :)
Please tell me that i'm not the only one who cried between 0:00 and 1:24
i did i remembered of tanaris destruction while it played
I'm still going there just to listen to this wonderful sound
"Deserts with WATER" What do you want?! It's game about magic :D
you sure don't know what is an Oasis
THe water came from a flood though.
Chilling winds sweep across the desert, creating an eerie howling noise that leaves an icy sense of hopelessness. I like standing there and just feel the music flow with the scenario... it's beautiful.
Questing here, hearing the crys of the people who so desperately needed help, it did make me enjoy this zone.
One of my favourite maps in wow since old times (TBC to be exact) i'll never forget the relaxing lvl up nights i got from tanaris my wow days are long over since but the feelings are always there..
This'll be nostalgic for someone someday! :)
you're goddamn right! xD
So far, I'm loving the new music this expansion. Alot more vocals and whatnot. God now I can't wait to hear boss tracks!
OG Tanaris music blows this away
I always loved the original Tanaris music, it felt so epic and sinister. I was pretty sceptical when i heard it was a new track, but within a few seconds I was assaulted by the pure win of this music... its pretty breathtaking.
Constant chills! So beautiful!
I quit wow a year ago, but listening to this music still hurts so bad! Its just so wonderful. And the memories... the memories :(
0:46 to 1:05 Beautiful! I Actually use it in my Cell phone, Notification Sound.
The thing is, when you first hear the music it doesn't mean anything and you don't feel much from it. Time passes. 10:35 This is what made me look this up.
One of the few great masterpieces of the Cataclysm soundtrack
Just reminds me of the southern region of Kalimdor. Beautiful deserts wrecked by the cataclysm that seem even more hopeless.
The new music for this zone is better. It's not even a contest.
I think this music does a good job of depicting a giant hot desert tbh. Reminds you of egyptian and middle eastern music.
That part in the beginning is pretty great. If there is a style of music that is called, what is it? I could listen to stuff like that all day
Did you found some ?
This is an awesome piece of music! but I still like the old music! it makes you falllll down into the circle of illusions!
Doesn't this music conjure up ideas of a tragic event, like the lands of Tanaris are lamenting the loss of a great hero or something similar? I love it, it's brilliant.
I dozed off for a moment while listening to this. I lie to you not, I was in a dream surrounded by a desert. It's funny how sounds can affect your dreams.
how could someone not love this music?!
It brings back old memories of what you're thinking about.
made of win, blizzard , you never fail me on providing best soundtracks of all games
This tupe of music it makes me so cry... i was crying for 3 minutes because of beautiful voice ... i love it so much that i m so happy ... :) :(....
I stopped playing right before Cataclysm. Shortly into Wrath.
I never experienced the ice of Northrend or the breaking of the world. I don't want to say they were ruined - change happens, but I'd rather remember these places as they once were. I was with them since the beginning.

My favourite soundtracks !!!
Blizzard, very nice job!!! =)
I remember when as a horde faction at perennial level 20 I managed, on foot, to get near Stormwind 😂😂I was crazy but it was worth it pff

Thank you for posting this, I pay attention to music in wow everytime I play, and I couldn't not notice this particular song (the begining part) in Tanaris.
Brings me to tears.
Tanaris was one of the few places to retain its mystery after the Cataclysm, and I think this music aids that.
Not much lore? Personally I'm extremely blown away by the amount of back writing they've done for Pandaria. It has a really rich history and the stories you play through are very interesting and refreshingly different.
And the Brewery is just a fun and light hearted instance, they aren't all like that.
Along with Winterspring, the most beautiful landscape. Now you might go like "Lolwut, sand isn't beautiful!" Tanaris is. ^^
This is why people need to come here more often..
cant wait for cata to come out, I will run around like a crazy and listen to the new music everywhere ^^
The comment section for "wow in-game music" is actually quite shocking... No one bitching at each other, (for the most part) and just people reminiscing of their past wow experiences. I think we can all agree, World of Warcraft will always be apart of us one way or another.
wow by far makes the best music in video games ive heard
It always reminded me of the song from ME2 Overlord. Especially with the vocals.
I love it. I would usually just stay in one place and listen to the song.
Goosebums all over! So chill...
@nakenmil I think its a great piece. I'm a proud player of World of Warcraft and have been for 5 years strong. I love all of their pieces......So thank you. (:
This is one of my favorite new tracks for one of my favorite zones!
@therightp4th

This music makes the sea of sand in Tanaris one of the most beautiful places.

Agreed. I'm so happy there are still mysteries in WoW, like the giant skeletons in Tanaris and Desolace. Hope they are never solved...
Ok, Tanaris so far has my vote for BEST NEW ZONE MUSIC. That shit is just so fucking epic
It was always a desert with water, Domi. The water just moved in closer.
If I had to be lost in a dessert, I would be glad to have this music playing in the Background.
All I know is, I was going about doing my random casual WoW stuff and this first soundtrack suddenly hit me in the face, that was an interesting experience and why I went here in the first place, it's pretty magical :o
tanaris, feralas and almost every part of kalimdor is why this continent is my favorite one in wow.
almost brought me to tears... outstanding
@Jaricko My only concern at the moment is upon seeing the damage/dps numbers bring produced even at 80 I don't think even the increased health pools at 85 are going to be enough. I just hope they do balance things out at 85, if so then it could be the best exp made.
nice music while chilling outside CoT an hour before guild raids :)
Everytime i level a new alt, i always get excited when i know it's soon time to level in Tanaris. I don't know why but it's probably the only area that i never get bored with.

I have found that Crying is the only way to express what I feel when I remember BC.
music is one of the most important thing is a game in my opinion
Ahh i remember watching my uncle play on his Dwarf hunter in BC... He loved Tanaris..

@Inujosha Much of the old music can still be heard from time to time - it plays some of the new and some of the old, to keep a balanced experience. I like that.
This desert felt cold, the music pre-cata was better, more ambiance. Now it's like a sad nostalgic aftermath music which is not bad anyways.
eh.... Whatever the old music was this was way better. Tanaris as it is now would be too peaceful, the old music is apparently sinister (from what i've heard) and would not fit the zone.

regarding music as support to ambience, the cataclysm - or what i heard of it so far - music is top notch.
i have to admint, it is not the *best* i have seen so far, but it is extraordinary good.
i love this soundtrack and the howling fjord!! thumbs up for this vid!
this new music just changes the lvling exp, the whole feel of the game
Lol the main reason I don't want to quit WoW is because I love travelling through the continents while listening to the amazing music.
Well this was just FANTASTIC! I really believe this might be the greatest expansion in WoW history.
this expansion is going to be so awesome cannot wait to play
it's so awesome flying over tanaris with this playing, though i personally think tanaris is filled with too much life for a desert. scorpions, giant wasps, basalisks, rocs, and hyenas everywhere you look and it's near impossible to avoid them.
Woah, I got chills shortly after it started...
one of the best music in the new cataclysm rebuild zones.
