Thank you! I mean as I get better equipment and get better at making videos I'm hoping to to have a little less Raw lol but I try to keep these videos nice and real. and yes it is beautiful up here in the winter
In '05 I was in the market for a new pickup. In February in Northern BC I test drove a new 1500 Dodge and new Toyota Tundra, both extended cabs one after the other along an identical course involving bare roads, deep snow, steep grades up and down in deep snow and on plowed but snow packed inclines all done in 2x4 then 4x4. The Dodge was so inferior in performance as compared to the Tundra as to be shocking. Eventually I improved the truck with a dif gear set change from 3.92 to 4.88s which vastly improved towing and somewhat improved milage. While doing the gears I had a Torsen true mechanical limited slip installed in the rear. Truck is amazing in snow and off road situations. I would not trade it for any new generation truck. 🇨🇦
When I had an open diff I used to put the emergency brake on 2-3 clicks to put equal pressure on both wheels, not sure about the new stuff lol I have a 2020 warlock now and it's a beast!
ya open differentials suck. happy the newer fifth gen Ram's actually have a factory locker option. and ya those warlocks I believe come standard with a LSD. which makes a huge difference
Good video. Did you have Traction control off in the second part of the video 7:26 and on? I have an open diff on mine, but BW 44-45 TC, wonder how it would do in the similar situation. Thx.
Thank you, Traction control was off the whole time. What is important on these trucks with the bw44-44 is to make the Electronic stability control is also off. it will make a big difference off-road. I have open diffs as well which kind of sucks but as you saw the truck can still make its way through some decent snow lol
I got stuck in snow about as deep as this. I didn’t know about the ESC thing. I was unable to get out and had to dig it out. Wish I knew about the ESC that time. I probably could have gotten out.
I know, I really do like my truck. but I feel like the mechanic in me wants to share the negatives so other folks are aware of the "short comings". I'm in talks with a a few dealers and hopefully I can get some cool trucks like the rebel and talk about the great off road capabilities! If I had a chev I'd probably talk about the issues as well.
@@GettysGarage appreciate your videos they are great quality and super informative. Love the pros and cons u put out there, Got a sub from me👍! keep them vids rolling.
Wrangler Duratracs. Supposed to be highly rated for snow and ice. and they seem to live up to their claim. A lot of guys up hear in Canada run them because of their winter rating
@@GettysGarage I own a ram does pretty good in the snow were I am. It's nothing to see 3,4,5, even 6 feet of snow here in ny tughill. I have seen snow cats get stuck also.
I dont think you understand how 4wd truck works, the 4x4 kn this truck is the same as all gms and fords with regular 4x4 with low gears , they have been the same forever. The only ones that are different are the ones that you can have rear lockers and some front lockers but you have a standard 4x4 truck they have been the same forever its not shitty because its a dodge you would have a ford or gm it would performe the same, the option to "lock" the 4x4 means locking the center diff 50/50 front to back thats all it means, the ram rebel come with the rear locker and also some have it as an option on other trims wich is a selectable diff lock button
I'm pretty certain I know exactly how the 4WD works on these trucks. what if I told you that my truck transfers power to the front driveshaft via a wet clutch pack. what if I told you that not a single RAM 1500 on the road today has a "center" differential. what if I told you the 4th gen RAM Rebel comes with a Limited Slip rear Differential not a locker.
@@GettysGarage im sorry but the rebel come's with a electronic rear locking differential and so do other models as optional tech like the ram warlock which is what i have and the 4x4 is the same as my older toyota tacoma i had works exactly the same if you dont have the one with 4auto
@@GettysGarage also by center diff forgive me i am french so i used the wrong word i meant transfer case, all 4lock does is it locks the transfer case so front wheels and back wheels have equal power but its still an open diff setup like any other basic 4x4 truck it works exactly the same unless you have the 4auto model
@@BeStrong-nf5nc what year is your truck? The new model truck have an e-locker option. but all 4th gen rams (2009-2019) didn't have a factory locker option. at least in North America. the warlock comes with an anti-spin rear end. also if you don't have the 4WD AUTO option then you have the better bw44-45 transfercase which does have a true 50/50 mechanical split.
When I purchased my Ram classic 4x4, I made sure I had a limited slip rear end. This video is encouraging to know the Ram does well in deep snow, but the Ram is also made by the same company that builds Jeep, one of the best 4x4 set ups or if not the best on a vehicle.
great option with the limited slip rear end. It was the one thing I sacrificed with my truck and I regret it lol. One thing to consider with these trucks is also what transfer case you have. there is some pretty noticeable off-road performance between the two.
@@GettysGarage My BF Goodrich All terrain ko2 are really good. I had the Goodyear duratrac before and they we good. There both great stone chuckers!!! But have great traction. 😄😄
@@ramrider1453 I used to plow snow with the Ko2's and I have no complaints they were great. Both tires in my opinion are great in the snow. But I like the look of the Duratracs better. and that's kind of what it came down to for me.
I understand that WhistlinDiesel got his Snowcat stuck. But that man is half psycho half vehicle executioner.

Momentum..gotta look 👀 ahead.. but even when you lost your momentum, it was still able to get up enough to bust out then carry through..👍 Sweet ...!!
haha yes I was worried once the truck stopped I was stuck but it kept digging in and found a way to keep pulling through

Can you build a snowman and run through it for your next video?
maybe put them all in a line and see how far I get ? I could be into Mike
Good ole 3 wheel drive
Technically 2 wheel drive with both my open differentials lol
Does your truck make a whining noise when the rpms go up while in 4x4 and also when you engage back to 2wd?
It does not. I might want to get that checked out. could be the 4x4 actuator starting to fail
