986S! Underrated. Lots can go wrong, but when they're right, they are fantastic. Do NOT buy these if you do not have time or money to maintain. It is still a Porsche.
I have a 99 2.5L and it’s a gem to drive. It’s not quite as fast as the Boxster S but it offers more than enough power to enjoy spirited city driving. I’ve had a 335i, BRZ, 65 Mustang, 84 Vette, is300 and currently driving a tesla m3 as my daily. Not quite the fastest cars but most were faster than my Boxster. Even so, I think I’m going to keep this longer than the rest of the cars I owned even though the bmw was really fun.
for me you should invest in a "grand tour" style video with your voice over some really clean landscape shots. I dont know why but you give me Jeremy Clarkson vibes. cars of the tour, porsche 986s, audi tt mk1, s2000. Have them race from point a to b, compare soft top operation etc. OW AND MAKE VIDEOS LONGER. I want you to make it. You are too good to only have 4k subs.
"The design is on the weaker side for Porsche"? These things are subjective, but this particular car's aesthetics are compromised by a) the fact it's the facelifted car with the ugly side intakes and front bumper, and b) that hideous aftermarket wing on the back. And as for the headlights, NOBODY complained about them when Grant Larson's 1993 concept car was unveiled. This only became an issue when air-cooled cork sniffers saw the 996.1, a car I also consider an underrated masterpiece and superior to the 993 in every way except arguably sound. Back to 986, not only is a surpisingly usable sports car, it succesfully carries a design language that is quintessentially Porsche and obviously shares its DNA with the 996, but also the still-born 984, the 914, 718 RSK, 550 Spyder and 356 Speedster and Zagato Speedster.
Agree with your points about the Boxster design and the design language it successfully carries from it's ancestors. It is subjective, but i think the Boxster is a pretty car and in today's modern era of sharp, very obvious angles and creases, the earlier Boxsters look very cleanly designed. No stupid bits of plastic tacked on or holes punched into it to make it look "angry" or "aggressive". I can't remember who said it from Porsche, but one of their very own designers said about the Boxster design, putting wings, diffusers, lips, etc on a car simply means you have made the car too fast for its design. One final thing - I cannot believe how cheap your second hand cars are in the UK. A very wasteful society that seems to think newer is always better. Quite funny in today's age where I think the newer cars are not as good as even 10 years ago. The poms don't like second hand cars and devalue them down to the price of an Apple MacBook! Laughable!
I picked up a 2.7 Boxster (non-S obviously) and I'm very much enjoying it. I have the "runny egg" headlights which I love...so much so, I wouldn't buy a boxster without them (maybe I'm weird, who knows). The only thing I don't love, is Fuel economy. I get 24-25mpg pretty much wherever I go. But overall, it is great. It does need a bunch of maintenance, and it's not a good car to buy if you're trying to save money on fuel and maintenance, but if you want top-down driving enjoyment at a reasonable price, this is a car worth looking at. Enjoyed your video, cheers.
Not a single mention of the dreaded IMS bearing?? There's even a load of blue smoke coming out of the engine compartment (not exhaust) on that pull at the end, lol... Do your due diligence folks before getting one of these..
IMS is hyped up wayyyy more than it realistically should be. Talk to any Porsche specialist and they’ll tell you how rarely they actually go. The IMS on this car has also been done already, alongside the RMS.
@@CarCultureClub It happened to a 987.1 CS I owned... I sold it to a buddy and the IMS bearing let go during his first track day.. My Porsche specialist assured me that the IMS on that particular car was fine as it had 78k miles on it when I bought it (it had 90k when it let go).. Car was serviced at one of the best P-car shops in my area for the last 12 years (I had all records going back that far when I bought it).. So, it's not just hype.. especially when you see it happen in real time, lol.. Good shit that that's already done on this particular model.. blue smoke might be more of an indicator of bore-scoring now that I think about it.. I wont go back to P-cars unless it's for a 987.2 base (no IMS, no cylinder lining)

Thanks means a lot!
Truly fantastic video production, very well put together. And couldn't agree more at 0:39
Appreciate it Sam! 😁

Thanks for the kind words man! Yeah we’d like to do more longer stuff like that once our audience has grown more!

Thanks for your comment! Enjoy yours 😁
I enjoyed this one. I don't think this car has the stock exhaust based on the sound at the end.
Definitely has an aftermarket cat back or something!
Im pretty sure I had a phone in 2004. But hey, that's just me I guess. Fine review beside that :)
Had my first carphone in 1989😂
And a Filofax!!! 😉

If you can get it for under 15k something is wrong with it
You can get a really great example of one of these for 10k, not sure where you got that number from 😅
A cheap Porsche is an expensive Porsche
Yep! Nobody buys a Porsche for a cheap runaround 🤣
Time fave Metallica track
haha top gear wannabe.. but not bad
