Don’t rule out the earlier pre-facelift cars, even more basic, but in some ways, that actually adds to the appeal. Pick up a useable 2.5 manual and you’ll have an absolute hoot thrashing it around, not because of the speed, but because of its small size, perfect balance and nimble handling. 👍🏻

Im a Toyota / Lexus fanboy, and desperately want to love and buy this car, and have come close a few times, but heres the problems. First off they arent cheap; theres very few (unless theyre battered, high mileage 2012/13 models) which are sub £10k. Most decent ones are in the £15/16k territory, and even at that yre not getting low mileage cars. Thats strong money for a ‘sports’ car which is 8/9 years old, which is neither fast, nor overly stylish, nor plush inside, or has decent tech. These are sparse spec cars with cheap interiors. The paintwork is typically Japanese, i.e fragile and thin. Add to that not many come without that horrible chavvy spoiler. Right now if you check Autotrader you can buy today right now without any problem, 2 litre, 184 bhp ND2 Mazda Mx5’s, or RFs 2019/20 for the same money as a 2015/16 86. For that same money, not only do you get a more modern, newer sports car, but also a faster one, still N/A. For same money you could also buy a beast of a sports car, a proper 2 seater one, with a V6 engine; a Nissan 370Z. Much as I applaud your love for the 86, and appreciate it, I just struggle to see value relatively with it. It could have been so much more, and actually the GR86 highlights what the GT86 should always have been. When you look at the prices for 2018/19 GT86’s, you start thinkin that for a few grand more a 2023/24 GR looks better value.

If you're just gonna leave it stock, owning a Lexus SC (300 or 400) is a better experience. Same chassis/suspension as the Supra, but with wood and leather.
