Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023 and more recently yesterday at Legend 43 in Okinawa for the first time as part of Final Tour in Japan with an incredible and different intro using taiko drummers.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.

what a show !
The last time a BM song was so indigenously inspired was arguably 'Megitsune' (2013), which was their first post-Sakura Gakuin hit & themed around native fox spirits (kitsunes) & megitsunes (vixens).
A decade later, this one is about a 'metal' matsuri 祭り (Japanese for village festival, 'metali' メタり is wordplay of both terms). Mentioned in the song's verses, it is clearly inspired by the Shinto float processions & Buddhist 'bon odori' festive dances. Su-metal was giddily cheering all song for everyone ("nikisan nekisan' = brothers & sisters) to form up, sing & dance along to the merrymaking. The tune cleverly uses the rallying chants by participants during those traditional events, either repeatedly shouted by Su & backup singers, or for the call-&-response parts.
wakka ni natte! = form a circle!
so-re so-re dokkoisho! = that's it that's it let's go!
odore odore! = dance it dance it!
yurase yurase! = shake it shake it!
utae utae! = sing it sing it!
sakebe sakebe! = scream it scream it!
wasshoi wasshoi! = heave-ho heave-ho!
Momometal's solo bit is Kabuki theatre, with the lyrics meaning something like: the dancing fools, look at the fools / if we're fools too, we should dance / if we don't dance now, then when are we to dance / metali metali / (growls) are you ready
BM is insanely inventive again. Once more, I don't think this has ever been conceived or done before with such creative success.
The song was only released last August (halfway through their world tour), & the MV featured a studio setting & no English-subbed lyrics so I don't international viewers initially caught on the subject matter (despite the valiant fansubs). I had wondered then if Tom Morello really knew what it was about either lol.
But BM immediately included 'Metali' in their live setlist for the rest of the year (Summer Sonic shows in Japan, the Babyklok tour in the USA), & props to those concertgoers for instantly embracing & reciprocating the infectiousness of it all. The overall thrill of the experience is captured in this official live video.
The girls are cute to watch and so talented. The Kami band is top notch! I agree------amazing costumes.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri (= festival)" → Metali.
The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals.
The audience did get low at every venue in the world, because no one can resist following our Queen's direction. 😄 (Then they jump up from crouching posture like spring ejectors after Momoko's "Are you ready ?".)
Momometal's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style and her growl gave an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness.
When it comes to BABYMETAL, everybody prefers live rendition to studio MV. If this video included cool instrumental intros by Western (American) Kami Band, which are played at every venue, it would be prefect. This song was one in the setlist in the 2023 North American tour (29 gigs) with Dethklok and EU/UK tour (20 gigs) and 7 gigs in Japan. I appreciate the devoted support by Chris, CJ, Anthony and Clint (and Ryan in NA tour).

I miss YuiMetal.
We all do, we are hoping she is having a good life and if she wants to gets into the entertainment industry again, so we support her in whatever she does. (my guess is she wanted to return to do acting, but no signs of that so far).
I think the is the worst official video of BM (i speak about the directing/production NOT the show) there is way too much cuts.
I'm disapointed, it look more like a trailer than an actual final video.
