It was the same with megitsune, when a song has a lot of Japanese culture in it, it is difficult to explain. Read only if you are interested, as the content may be a little removed from the song itself.(I'm sure you have an idea of what you're getting at, but I'll write it down in a nutshell.)
METALI is a word that adds METAL and 祭り(Matsuri=festival). And this song is a representation of a Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festival). For us Japanese, these sound and lyrics make our Matsuri blood boil. Matsuri is the heart of the Japanese people. It is said that there are a total of 300,000 festivals in Japan, both large and small. Matsuri means a ritual for worshiping Gods or Buddha, or an event held in gratitude towards nature. 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) is a carriage for Gods. In the festival, Japanese people get around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship Gods. While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers will yell "Wasshoi, Wasshoi" or "Soiya, Soiya" or "Sore, Sore".(However, the calls vary considerably from region to region.)
神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) and お囃子(Ohayashi=festival music) of Matsuri have a history of more than 1,000 years and are etched in the DNA of the Japanese people.
The instrument used in the intro is the 三味線(shamisen), a three-line string instrument. The shamisen is played with a fan-shaped, ginkgo leaf-shaped ばち(bachi).
The funny-looking masks with their mouths agape are ひょっとこ(hyottoko). It has existed for roughly 500-600 years.
赤子(akago) is baby, 金属(kinzoku) is metal.
ぴーひゃら(Pehyara) in the lyrics is the sound of a 篠笛(Shino bue=transverse flute) used at Matsuri.
どっこいしょ(Dokkoisho) is the voice used when lifting heavy objects. The choreography when saying "Dokkoisho" is the pose of carrying a heavy object on the shoulder.
The choreography when saying わっしょい(Wasshoi) is a pose for carrying a Mikoshi(portable shrine).
It is called 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe), a call to be inserted between songs. 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe) can be wasshoi, dokkoisho, sore, soresore, ha, ho, yo, yoisho, etc.
The lyrics "Odorin chai" and "Utain chai" are in the dialect of SU-METAL's birthplace, Hiroshima. In standard language, the words are "Odori nasai" and "Utai nasai", meaning "you should dance" and "you should sing".
MOMOMETAL speaks in the middle, that is 歌舞伎(kabuki) speaking.
MOMOMETAL's odd pose is the Kabuki climactic pose.

This was Momometal's first official mv as a member of the band and that kabuki part was her getting her own solo spot already.
Metali is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). They are inviting us all to dance - I may have this a bit wrong, but there is something in the lyrics about we are all idiots - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.

Yes, song's name is "Metali" and it's a "matsuri" (traditional Japanese festival) influenced song. It's all about crowd interaction, chants and exhorting people to sing and dance along. Very cool collaboration with Tom Morello, indeed!
Also very happy for Momoko on her first song and music video as an official member and for her special feature on that kabuki style speech she does in the middle.

Oh you got this vid recorded one day after the MV came out, now they got 1M views in only 6 days.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this recently at Summer Sonic and hopefully they will do the same at Blue Ridge Rock, Aftershock or Louder Than Life and get the crowd going nuts with this.
It's their first song released with this new BM reborn and formation.
The live version is already bonkers and got a Kami Band intro after so many years without it, some of us already heard the live version before the track was released when they live premiere this at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive concert for fans, totally unexpected.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when one of them (MomoMetal) is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festival when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya you can hear in Megitsune and Karate.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts,

Now about the WASSHOI WASSHOI chants we are all talking about => At JAPANESE FESTIVALS, you will often see a group of people carry portable shrines on their shoulders. They shout "Wasshoi Wasshoi... " endlessly as they move about. I absolutely love this song! It's my favorite out of all the new stuff they have done. It is so energetic and so freaking catchy, and it gives me Megitsune vibes with the visuals and dancing. Just like all of their old songs, I'll probably get some of the dance sections down and I don't even dance lol. I have three of their live concert DVDs and they always get me on my feet. :D
Also the instrument at the beginning was a Shamisen, it's one of my favorite classic Japanese instruments.

The title, Metali, is a combination of two words. Metal and Matsuri (Japanese for festival). Meta (メタ) written in katakana,and ri (り) written in hiragana to distinguish the two words. And as much as every single reactor thinks it sounds Bollywood, it is 1000% Japanese. From the Shamisen traditional instrument throughout to the masks and choreography. It's a festival song inspired by Japanese summer festivals, in particular the Awaodori Matsuri where some of the lyrics are taken from, and the chants while carrying the Mikoshi Shinto shrine on their shoulders. There's a ton of Japanese imagery, play on words, and references that only Japanese will catch, but in the end it's just a summer festival song. A METAL festival song. I'll post the lyrics in a separate comment.

Congrats on your 10K subscribers before you know it you’ll be at 100K. I was a professional musician retired now in my 70s. I started following you when you had about 30 subscribers. Don’t get discouraged. Keep plugging your band. Hopefully a chance will come and a record company or someone with connections will see you. I have faith. Don’t forget to show on the video that you like and subscribe to every artist that you react to. A lot of fans, watch reactions to their favorite bands and you subscribing and liking their band will encourage them to subscribe and like you. That’s why I subscribed to you. Just a suggestion. Oh yeah, one more thing, it's been performed live twice so far. At a special fanclub exclusive concert and at Summersonic 2023. The only thing missing from the studio recording is the Momometal growl "ARE YOU READYYYY?!" the end of the spoken word part that she did live. It's epic AF and something to witness, since the girls have NEVER done growls before.
Technically it's been performed three times since they performed two nights at Summer Sonic (Osaka and Tokyo) and played Metali at both shows.

Although BABYMETAL is best served live, they do have some excellent music videos that you've been denying yourselves. In addition to this one, there is "Doki Doki Morning" (their first MV), "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay", and their second MV), "Megitsune" (I've heard people say that "Metali!!" is like 'Megitsune 2.0"), "Karate", and "BxMxC". Anyway . . . .

METALI should be pronounced as Meta-Lee, or like "Metal It," with the last "t" being silent. It does not mean anything even in Japanese, rather a play with words. Having said that, it suggests a combination of "Metal" and "Matsuri (traditional festival)", and it also could sound like "One has done metal," or "It is metallic," in old sort of Japanese, like Kabuki, and which is the way Momometal performs the spoken-word part in the mid-part.

Could I make a suggestion for a new band to check out, one which seems to have eluded other reactors? Mono Inc are a Gothic rock/ symphonic metal band, and they play catchy and melodic music. They're huge in their native Germany, as you can see in the festival footage from this MV mash up. And I love Katha, the singing drummer. btw they sing in English. Babymetal have joined forces with Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine for a new single ‘Metali’.
The new song is the latest in the Japanese kawaii metal band’s series of star-studded collaborations, and sees them partner with the Rage guitarist for another up-tempo, electrifying track.

Visually this reminds me a lot of kpop videos... Especially with Su singing and walking towards the camera, and the vibrant colors..... But this is definitely a great surprise collab, especially after the rather confusing one with Lil Uzi Vert.....Oh definitely Babymetal songs are written with crowd participation in mind, you can always find parts for the crowd to join along.... And I love Su's aggressive viocals in this....In one of their live shows, there was a growl part that is believed to have been done by Momometal.... That would be awesome.... Heard this song for the first time seeing it live. I can confirm that the crowd went fucking nuts and it's absolutely meant to be a live tune, with a call and repsonse.
My friend and I were talking about how the lamest part of the song was Tom Morello boomering it up in a bucket head while Babymetal was rocking the fuck out. Like...he gets a pass, but it shows you how far Babymetal has come.
It's an absolute banger live, it's near impossible to not groove to this track. The video they use with the skeletons dancing is like really really catchy, toio.
All white Tom Morello fashion with a bucket hat was a bad choice, it's so hot outisde.

Too much pausing and at the wrong times. Yeah, we can just watch the video, but we also vibe to the music. Find a lull, or a transition to pause and share your thoughts, or on top of the song as well is fine. It makes for a better viewing experience.
