I'm a professional therapist here in USA, specializing in sexual addiction, came into contact on a number of occasions with pedophiles (most addicts are not pedophiles, some do advance in that direction, important to distinguish that these are different pathologies that at times to overlap) and all I can say is there is little rehabilitation that is going to happen with a pedophile. ALL of them were difficult and avoidant, they were highly interested in not having to reap the consequences of their actions, ALL of them were emotionally/psychologically stunted in their growth, so whatever rehab was going to happen was going to have to be long term and in-depth, which none of the individuals that I ran into were interested in doing. All of them were adult men with the mind of 12 year olds or younger, which is why they were drawn to children because they stopped growing. The few that were cooperative were so only for so long, then they left therapy. I recall one man who'd served prison time and was on the sex offender list, and he spent six sessions trying to convince me that the 9 years old he'd raped seduced him. Trust me, there was 'nobody home'; I learned in those session that there are some people whom I am just not going to be able to help. There is an interior darkness about these people. I'm not suggesting that these people are beyond help, but they will never function completely well as something got disconnected early in their lives and it will take a lifetime of constant work to grow and gain the lost ground from early on. Build a special facility for the trans pesos, but if you let them walk, you set a precedence for more of the same, and kids are going to be harmed.

Yes, the rehabilitation rate is very low. And should it ever happen, it must be the pedophile himself seeking treatment. A few do seek treatment. As a psychologist, I react a little to your simplistic description of the reasons for pedophilia. Stopped growing. Why did they stop growing? I believe we are talking about low IQ here. Some have been sexually abused, but one finds that pdhs have lower IQ. One study from 2017 found that the pdhs have less gray matter in the temporal lobe. In an area that is associated with empathy. Those that OFFENDED had less matter than pdhs who didn't offend. They were also more often left handed. Of course, if they have brain damage, there will be little change of rehabilitation. They must be incarcerated for life. I don't know if castration can help. That they could have that option. But chemical castration is not an option, as they sabotage that. Just google pedophilia and IQ.

Could be it was present and just not discussed; my lack of familiarity with it could have also led to my not recognizing it and not even thinking to ask about it. Good question.

Not just based on male genitalia because there have been very rare cases of females with intersex health conditions that had male genitalia that wasn't functional, but still a rare syndrome. What needs to be clear in the law, that any person with a male biological structure that includes male genitalia but also based on the biological body and the genes should be placed in male prisons regardless of how they want to identify as.

If the magistrates couldn't decide what to do with this predator, they should have committed him to the Crown Court for trial, not allowed him to go free on the say so of a liberalised and ineffectual modern probation service. This is a gross offence against all abused children, and something needs to be done to readdress this horrific imbalance.

I'm shocked that the sentence for this in the UK would be 6 months to 3 years. SIX MONTHS????? And ngetting a suspended sentence and NO jail time because the authorities couldn't decide what prison to send this creep to? You must be joking! Every British citizen should do whatever it takes to sack the highest levels of prison management. I understand you have a Prison Minister? Start with that person. This cannot be allowed to stand.
