  • Suspended Tory MP Chris Pincher could be permanently removed from parliament following a report into groping allegations against him.
The standards committee recommended an eight-week suspension for the MP after finding that he drunkenly “groped two individuals." His removal could trigger a by-election.
Ann Widdecombe spoke to Dr David Bull about the calibre of politicians in the UK.

Its hard to think of anyone of talent. I use to at least respect some MPs. The Tories are awful and yet Labour don't seem like anything better at all. They are meant to be representative but all seem driven on ruining their own communities with mass immigration. No benefit to anyone but the rich.

I feel that they are bad, but I also feel they are traversing a political climate where the level of societal and technological change is exponentially increasing in speed, so I feel it could also be that our parliament and the political mechanisms it uses dont support our politicians to be the calibre we need them to be. think about it, why do we push for our hospitals to be upgraded so our doctors can deliver the best care, but we expect our politicians to deliver the best in a model of government that was really designed over a decade ago.
if we want to have the best economy and democracy then we have to ensure that we have a flexible and robust system that responds to the current, and foreseeable future, climate.

@@lsd1649 Politicians feel they have to lie, They legally shouldn't be allowed to run up debts as they all want to do more so nearly always spend the next generations money.

@@marumaru6084 While I understand your anger, I don't feel it's helpful to take a position of 'they feel they have to lie'. None of us know whats going on in the government or in the intelligence communities, so we need to try and refrain from assigning malicious intent when it could just be that they meant what they said, but the constraints of office stopped them delivering.
on the debt side. I wish people would understand why this is the current approach, and then understand how hard it is to reverse. so, firstly, the main reason we live in a debt based society is actually because one nation stole our right to be anything other than that, America. So when America had run up massive dollar excess due to their military spending, foreign aid and the space race, the other nations (who's currency was tied to the gold-backed-dollar) lost faith that America had enough gold to cover the debts, and therefore tried withdrawing. in response, Nixon 'temporarily' suspended the system, which we never returned too. But, America then approached the predominant arab states, mainly the Saudi's i believe, and created the petro dollar which props up Dollar stability, but does not stop debt based economic models.
In conjunction to the above, the deindustrialisation of the west under the Ayn Rand sect of economics, commonly referred to as neo-liberalism, turned us into a consumer based economy, which ignored the real economy. This is why, in conjunction with the tax shelter system put in across the British protectorates, is why our biggest contributor to GDP is the financial sector.
this has all culminated in a debt based economy, which is why the BRICS nations are trying to create a global gold-backed global reserve currency (like bretton woods), and now the EU countries are scrambling to join, but america is trying its hardest to stop it as a change in global reserve currency literally stops all its sanction powers (theres more reasons).

which shows some media reporting is relevant whilst other scandals might be not? eg Hunter Biden, should his crack addiction prevent his father being President? I'd say no so no need to weaponise the habit against his father. But then was Hunter being a pawn to funnel bribes off the CCP to Joe for a hypothetical case, then I'd say front page that news.

Sadly, the people who get into "local" politics either have a will to do some good OR have an agenda to push with their cronies.
The same goes for politicians.. They need to publicly debate and answer questions from the public and if they have any skeletons in the cupboard, they should be disqualified.
They also need to be at least 3rd generation UK citizens.

The quality of current MP's is the outcome of being a member of the EU, now they have to think, understand detail, use intelligence, intellect and foresight, more MP's don't meet that criteria than do.

Councils run town and cities so surely we only need one mp , we town n city , one for Birmingham London Manchester etc , pay them more but make it easier to recall them , so if they don’t represent the majority view in their town we can sack them easier 🙈

That's the main issue, 0 accountability. Yes they need to stand every 5 years, but during that time they seem to breach the Ministerial code and it's other politicians that discipline them.
Like a company parliament needs a hr department and black and white code of conduct.
Look at Nadine Dorris. She's never in parliament.

when the average salary of the UK is somewhere in the region of £24k, more people in the UK are represented by those that think £82k is a high salary. to adjust too wildly to attract more people who have run a multinational corporation would actually be far less representative.

MPs should get more money? Lets not forget their expenses, like Mr 30p lee Anderson.
He spends his time telling people to eat baled beans or cat food. While he makes 80k a year and claims nearly 300k in expenses 21k of which is accomodation in one year.
If you're the head of a company why would more money make you leave your business to be an mp? What Extra qualifications do you bring.
