Mahmood is one of the biggest stars in Italy these days - and way better than just this performance. You should do a Weekly Top 5 just with him: "Tuta Gold", "Barrio", "Brividi", "Cocktail D'Amore" and his latest "RA TA TA"
Mahmood is part of the LGBTQ community but I believe the song is about his dad who walked out on him when he was 6 and now his father has 4 failed marriages. Great reaction lads. Mahmood is so cool and his songs are so refreshing.
@@Hope00Love He's always been out, at the beginning of his career he just fumbled with a few answers (about coming out and about racism) that people still sometimes hold against him (and that are still on his Wikipedia page apparently). For a short period of time he tried not to bring attention to his personal life by saying stuff like "my generation doesn't care about labels" or "I never experienced racism in Italy" because his first Sanremo victory was followed by a political uproar (the far right party accused the artistic director of Sanremo of "corrupting" the festival of the Italian song by using Mahmood ("half African and gay") as a statement for pushing their "leftist political agenda"). But this was all in 2019, I'm assuming you stopped following him because he's definitely out and proud (and he has a gorgeous boyfriend 😉)
@@silviapieck2471I think there is a difference between being gay and label yourself as part of the LGBTQ community. Maybe he just doesn't like the label or the fact that exists, gay or not should not be public business. Either way the song is not about that, is not about that pride
The song is mostly about his relationship with his father that he doesn't have much contact with and when he reached out to him the father accused him to only want his money. There is a lot of hurt in the song despite it being cool and laid back and makes you vibe and dance. I personally related with the song instantaniously on first listen without even speaking italian cause I've had similar experiances. He was my favorite that year and at his second time at eurovision though I am happy for Duncan and Kalush.
It's the opposite, actually. They don't have a relationship and the father reached out to him asking for money. He sings "Tell me if the only thing you wanted from me was my money (like I had any money)" and in the end "Unlike you, I never asked for your money"
@@silviapieck2471 oh yeah that was it, true. I don't speak italian so I went from what I remembered hearing back then but now that you say it it does sound more right.

Soldi put him on the European music map... he even made me wear a Nefertiti necklace almost every day (yeah I am a huge fan 😅) and because of his Egyptian Italian roots he combines the Arabic and European Music culture perfectly... I actually believe Mahmood would deserve an own Top 5 week his songs would be worth it like Brividi, Rapide, Tuta Gold, Bario, Talata, Ra Ta Ta ... just to name a few ❤🤞🏻🙌🏻
nope, Tuta Gold wasn't an attempt to get to Eurovision. He didn't even care about that. That song was for Sanremo Festival, which has enough dignity to be remembered as the independent contest it is
@@giovannimoriggi5833 Exactly..... Sanremo was not created to be a Eurovision national final. It predates Eurovision. The winner just gets the option to represent Italy. If Mahmood had won Sanremo this year, I actually would have hoped he decline the Eurovision invitation and let new talent get their turn.
Mahmood is great. I am a big fan since this performance. He even gets better and better. Another cool performance at the Eurovision is Loïc Nottet for Belgium in 2015, he was 4th place.
Mahmood is half Egyptian by father but born and raised in Milan. This song has a North African beat mixed with Italian electro pop. Soldi(meaning Money 2 place at Eurovision contest ) also has deep lyrics about his relationship with his father who abandoned him when he was a kid. Tuta gold came out this year is good too. You are great guys. Ciao.
Definitely up for a Mahmood week. It's funny that you guys didn't know him, yet from your comments, you got his essence just right. This was the beginnings of his career, now his grown so much. I'm not Italian but started to listen to his music and believe this guy a true Artist - his videos only, are just pure art
There have been some amazing songs from Italy's Sanremo Festival over the last few years that never made it to the Eurovision stage. I should recommend a Sanremo week.
Mahmood's 2024 Sanremo entry "Tuta Gold" is very much worth checking out, it's my favourite song of the entire last Eurovision "season" even if it didn't make it into the final. In between "Soldi" and "Tuta Gold" there are stone classics like "Rapide," "Uramaki," "Klan" (wild video!) and "Milano Good Vibes" --- even if you don't speak Italian (I don't!), you will appreciate the artistry on display. A tremendous performer!
We need a mahmood top 5!! Been listening to him since this Eurovision in 2019 and his music is the reason I started learning italian, his music never misses he's amazing

His Tuta Gold song from this year's Sanremo was really great too. But maybe it'll be too much if Italy sends him again for the 3rd time within the last 6 years. ^^
