- In today's episode we tackle the rest of the BMW E34's driveline while we wait on S52 parts. So we fully refresh, reseal, and go through the Zf 5 speed, swap out the old differential for a 3.23 Limited slip diff, and we service the entire driveshaft with new giubo, CSB, and center bushing.

hahahah ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Man I cant wait to see this car done🔥🔥🔥🔥
Same here haha
The filming, editing, and overall production of this video is one of the best I’ve seen! Congratulations on the excellent content.
Thank you so much!!!
Really enjoying your series on the S52 swap! Great see you go through the step-by-step on the driveline renewal and differential swap. And nice to see others who appreciate the old E34s and their varieties. Thanks!
Thank you man! Happy others appreciate it as well!
Give this man a beer! Nice work
🍻
Your video’s are so nice to watch. Liked this one too. The part/struggle with the 140 nm torque was a lot of fun.
Thank you man! I appreciate that!
Awesome vid dude thank you for actually hovering the torq specs and other details currently in the middle of my 34’s drive line
Glad you enjoyed man!
Great job! Also they sell just the foam ball for the shifter now on fcp for much less than the whole selector
Good to know!!
Excellent work dude, really coming together meow..
Thanks my man!
Love the videos man
Thank you man!
Nice work homie!
Thank you bro🤝
Okay well done
Good work 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Great job on the repairs. Looks like your health is recovering...
Oh yeah i kicked covids ass a second time. No issues here, were back to normal
Awesome vid. Also was gonna ask how you like the headband. Saw aidan templins lil
Commercial badass glad to see it also got the nod from another guy
I really love it. Thats the only reason I promote it, because it actually comes in handy and lights up hard to access areas very well. 2 thumbs up from me
🔥
Great video Josh. In your experience what is the best source for E34 running gear? Im on the hunt for a 5 speed and LSD for my 525i M50.
Correct me if im wrong but by running gear you mean like swap parts and stuff? Best bet is to find someone parting one out as a whole swap
Great video! Do you by any chance still have the oem numbers for the parts you have used in the gearbox?
Realoem.com is where I get all the numbers!
The reason why it calls to torque to 140 ft lbs then loose and retighten to 89 ft lbs is because the initial torque spec seats the driveshaft flange on the splines. If you put it to 140 ft lbs and slap it in the car you risk damaging the output shaft bearing or that new seal you installed. Also make sure the input shaft bearing don’t need to be replaced within a few months, it’s a horrible sound and requires full disassembly of the trans to replace it. And regarding the power steering system it calls for dextron atf for me so correct me if I’m wrong but Im thinking you can use dextron in it. Also is 80w90 too thin for an lsd? Mine don’t chatter or lock up or anything and I use castrol 80w90 with lsd additive
I assumed thats why it calls for that torque sequence, glad i followed it. Ive had a zf with a bad input bearing, not fun lol. But lots of people run 80w-90 in lsds. Im sure it doesn’t matter much, but bmw did call for 75-140 so stuck with that
@@m3nameisjosh464 I did some research on the oil weight. Bimmerforums members say running 75w90 or even 75w140 (which depending on the application is the specified viscosity) of any brand of gear oil noticed low speed chattering and lock up when the oil is cold when the diff reaches high mileage. Running 80w90 or thicker made the chatter go away. Hopefully yours don’t chatter or lockup at low speeds when winter comes around. My friend has this Nissan sports car he ran a 250 weight gear oil in his aftermarket clutch based diff because the clutch based diffs chatter a lot when you don’t have thick oil in it. I think the e34s only have a VLSD so the thicker fluid allows the diff to work better under higher temperatures and locks up more aggressively and possibly harder
@@funnypranker34 been running 75w-140 in my 500hp turbo car without any noises or issues so decided to stick with it. I have heard of people experiencing chatter with certain brand fluids and stuff. We will see!
What are your thoughts on stainless steel pivot pins? I was going to get one from an e31 for my e36 ZF
Not necessary. Plastic will last 30 years
Hey Josh, can I use a 92 525i zf 310z into e36 328i? I'm confused because 310z and 320z output flange look different!
They look different but i never had an issue with putting E36 zf in my e34. The shifter knuckle that linkage attaches to is different
Why don't you get a movable scissor lift? You got enough space. Once you get close to 50. The joy of rolling on the carage floor gets old real fast :) , but nice job.
Scissor lifts dont allow you to get in and out from the sides which i feel like would kind of bother me, but definitely need something here. Im feeling too old for this🤣
Hi - what did you pull the S3.23 diff from
A 91 525i
starting to look for a calypso red 525i
would recommend keeping an open mind on colour. would be a shame to pass up a clean 525i on paint alone!
@@simontvrner it’s so hard not too tho lol
Calypso is one of the best😏😏
Hey. I just came across your channel and idk if you’ve talked about this on your channel before, but im looking to buy an e34 525i in the range of 1992-1996 and Im wondering about vanos and non vanos. What would you recommend and why ? Especially since Im interested in slapping down a turbo on it later down the line. Also wondering about the transmissions (only manuals) ? Is the ZF better or worse ? Would appreciate all the info, you could share.
Watch my how to but an e34 video! As for vanos or non vanos either one is great. Non vanos is a stronger engine but vanos helps with boost. Zf is the best transmission, only came in 91-92 525s. Getrags are not good for power
@@m3nameisjosh464 would you say then, that the 91-92 models are the best ? Since M50NV, ZF transmission and LSD ?
@@Adrix896 yeah id say so
@@m3nameisjosh464 Last question. Is there any way to tell if the car has an LSD ? When Im buying a car, Im not doing a burnout or jacking up the rear tires to spin them with my hand 😄 (to see if they spinnin in the same or opposite direction)
@@Adrix896 an S stamped at the bottom or look at tag on back left side
Hi Josh, please lemme know how i can reach you
Hi 👋 man
