Cheers Alex. Thanks for playing VWQ. The battle was Adwalton Moor, 30 June 1643. Happy to run again.
Cheers Dex! I'd be up for it!
I just downloaded the rules, they look clearly presented, might give them a try
I use an optivisor and have for a while. I think its strange that magnifiers seem to be a "no-no" yet they really help if your inn the spec's camp.
Nice lancers!!😎
Cheers!
I am of similar age and started the hobby late. So, I don't even have experience to fall back on! I do not have the glasses, but I do have a desktop lens that I use. I can't even imagine painting the 15mm figures I'm prepping for Chain of Command/NUTS!. Might have to try the glasses to free up some desk space.
There is this hilarious recognition when you make what appears to be a huge mistake under the lens and pull the figure out and realize it's a nearly imperceptible blemish. 😀
15mm is not that onerous really, just paint what you can see from 3ft away.
You need to paint a White Rabbit for Charlie Don't Surf.
No need to be modest, those Lancers look top notch. I feel you on the eyesight front - It turns out that it's much easier when you can see the mini rather than painting by feel, oddly enough ;-) Maybe next time you are getting your eyes checked see if the optomotrist thinks it might be worthwhile getting a dedicated pair of short distance/reading lenses? Getting a pair helped me out more than I'd care to admit. Take care, and thanks for putting these vids together 👍
Thank you, I did go the opticians recently and they did suggest varifocals, but I don't think I'm mentally ready to take that step just yet... 😂😆
I don’t have the same brand but a similar wearable magnifier lens with light. It is definitely one of my favorite hobby tools for painting. I started only using it for painting eyes but pretty much use them all the time now for any painting.
They really are good, god knows how I went so long I went without them!
I'll add my thanks to Dex to those you offered, VWQ is a nice game despite the card activation (sorry Alex, I don't share your enthusiasm for completely random friction in com and con, it's nice to slant the table as games such as Altar of Freedom do). The fight was close and Alex had indeed pushed back my speed bump but my main infantry line was untouched as we drew to a close, any breakthrough on either side would according to Dex have taken multiple turns so he suggested a draw. It was a very enjoyable first blooding in the pike and shot era for me, and I wouldn't turn down another command in either the era or the system itself.
As to the other major point of interest, those goggles, will they transform my painting experience, Alex? Context : I've always considered painting as something you HAVE to do, even when I had perfect 20-20 vision. And I paint 6mm ACW with exactly the same lack of enthusiasm as I paint my Blood Bowl teams. For me the result, table ready minis at a reasonable standard is the thing. 😂
Anyway, glad you found time for the video, enjoy your hangover and thanks for the game on Thursday.
Well, only you can answer that Dave. If you don't like painting they probably won't help much, but they'll certainly make it easier.
Just order those Glasses you mentioned before finishing your update. Been having the same problem.
They will transform your painting life.
@@StormofSteelWargaming Looking forward to it.🙂
@@StormofSteelWargaming Absolutely agree. I do have still pretty good vision (no glasses) at my age (45) but I really enjoy painting so much more with the glasses and my eyes are much better rested. It does take a bit to adjust your hand eye coordination but then there is no way back.
I prefer TWAT to COC, but the others I played it with didnt like it. (Mind you this was about 20 years ago.) Ive been using similiar magnifers for a couple of years and bought a spare set recently, I couldnt paint now with out them.
Just ordered a pair via the link and am looking forward to giving them a go tomorrow night :).
I'm looking forward to watching your review of the AK Pens. I'm wondering if they will work on the webbing on my Epic ACW :)
Cheers buddy! The pens might work actually, I'd not tried them on epic scale figures, but it's worth a shot.
@StormofSteelWargaming the glasses are amazing. I always thought these types of things were a gimmick. I admit I was wrong after trying my pair that arrived earlier today :).
You may get sick of me voicing enthusiasm every time you mention CoC: Great War...but I'm looking forward to that CoC: Great War battle report! 😛 Funny that ECW (and the Warbases buildings) are in the Update, as those buildings piqued my interest in the ECW (buildings, of all things!) I have a lot to learn, though, since I know absolutely nothing about the period (other than that I like the look of the buildings).
No, not sick at all! I also know nothing about the ECW.
ADC? Smells like GdA2 from here....
You're not wrong...
